MANIFESTO

Why Dutty? Dutty is an urban expression with two kind of meanings, you can use it in a good or in a bad way. The contradictory meanings of the same subject is something we want to explore, to show "the best and the beast”. It’s like Dutty, we can use it to call someone or something dirty and nasty but at the same time we’re able to use it as an expression of something great and awesome.

Contents with high contrasts, dirty subjects, brutal art works, hard adventures, heavy thoughts, the beauty, the ugly, the rude and the kind. Positive, negative, black, white, peace and war, love and hate. All the opposites are welcome here, we can handle that and make a good and suitable composition. We want to use this Dutty concept as an include tool for subjects and concepts. With this purpose, we’re trying to show you a huge handshake, between the different, this way we hope to get something new and fresh to an diversified public, without losing this urban / young / rebel / style.

At the same time we’re true lovers of phonetic tricks, we really enjoyed the similarity of the word dutty with duty, probably the best phonetic trick for this challenge. W E

“I studied graphic design and finished my bachelors degree in 2002. After that I worked at a number of design and motion graphics studios from Johannesburg to London, UK.

I returned to South Africa in 2006 and after freelancing for a while I ended up at Masters & Savant in Cape Town, where I’m currently the creative director.

Besides the visual arts I spend as much time as possible in the beautiful mountains around Cape Town, climbing or exploring. I live with Ronel who’s also a painter and we have 2 rad boys named Edzard and Christiaan.”

conquest of the irrational

My passion was always rooted in comics and animation. So when I’m not working or spending time with my family I try to create some of my personal drawings and comics. Often very early in the mornings before work.

Favorite artist: Jean Giraud (MOEBIUS) Favorite taste: My wife’s cooking. Favorite season: Winter. Biggest passion: Experiencing freedom. Biggest adventure: It’s hard to name just one, but did an epic multi-pitch

rock climb a while back. Enjoyed some exposure, struggle and a successful summit 4 hours later. Included close encounter with a snake and a panic attack haha. Biggest dream: To break free from the money making machine and spend more time enjoying life with my family. See the world. Biggest disappointment: The advertising industry. What do you love most? My wife and kids of course! What do you hate

most? Inconsiderate people. Music? I’m quite obsessed with my music. I tend to be more “creative” and productive when I listen to music. Tom Waits, Bob Dylan, Radiohead, Pink Floyd, Miles Davis, Frank Zappa, The Brian Jonestown Massacre, Bowie, The Doors, Mazzy Star, Iggy Pop... Day or Night? Day. Places you’d like to visit: Japan, Nepal, Argentina, Mongolia, France, Iceland, USA. Why

illustration? It’s something that just came naturally... I’ve always been drawing, since school. So the obvious next step was advertising, since I thought it could lead to drawing comics and making animated films. Haha what a misconception! But I’m going at it. And I do enjoy drawing in my spare time. What is the main idea in your mind when you’re working? Visualizing stories. g e r h a r d

h u m a n

I usually portray snapshots of some event taking place in a specific environment. It’s an attempt to capture some aspect of a story that I think of. Next Project? I need to produce some pieces for another exhibition. And I would like to work on a comic again. But time is a huge limitation at the moment. So I’m not producing as much as I would like to. One advice to who wants to be Illustrator.

Put in lots and lots of work and don’t expect to get anything in return. If you’re happy with that then you’ll be OK. Today is your last day on earth, what do you want to do? Pack my backpack, get my family together, steal some motorcycles (sidecar for the kids), ride north towards the mountains and climb the biggest thing I can see. Then just stay up there and enjoy the view with a freshly brewed pot of coffee.

EMANUELE FERRARI "I am 38 years old, I have a wife, ten fishes and lots of ideas for the head ! I was born in Milan, where I live now , but I spent my childhood in Rome. I started as a photographer by choice and passion, and now it has become (almost) a e m a n u e l e

real job. I love “clean” photos and technical precision. I've done the pictures for the antismoking campaign in 2010." Favorite quote: It is useless to start doing something if you do not believe in enough. Favorite word : Peace & Love J. Favorite style: Casual. Favorite color: Black & White (The colors of my football team) Favorite artist: As a photographers Terry Richardson and Tikhomirov , as artist Andy Warhol in the strict sense of all. Favorite taste: Chocolate. Favorite season: Summer without a shadow of a doubt, the sun and the sea! Biggest passion: Photography, sport and technology in general. Biggest adventure: Everyday! To be able to smile, always! Biggest dream: To move to work as a photographer in Los Angeles. Biggest disappointment: Nothing that can not be remedied . Probably the fact that I have passed all the examinations to the University and that I have not (yet) graduated. What do you love most? The food , beauty in general , travel, the force of nature. What do you hate most? Social injustice, racism, institutions’s indifference towards the weakest. Music? I’m a musical omnivore. Day or Night? Night Places you’d like to visit. The west coast of

the United States. About your work? The most beautiful thing is to be able to do a job like that . Do it right, with the desire to improve , and - why not have fun. Why photography? Because photography is a form of art that has always fascinated me. It is how to tell a story without words but only the images . I want people read something, good or bad, in my pictures. For that reason, I like simple girls in front of the camera they turn to tell a part of them that they would not be able to express in words. What is the main idea in your mind when you’re shooting? When I photograph the mind is free from everything. I just think to capture the moments: a smile, a grimace... Next Project? I have a lot of ideas and projects but it is to early to speak about.... One advice to who wants to be photographer. The key word is: passion. Only if we have the passion, we are able to see through the lens, things that others do not see. And it’s important to be humble in this business you never stop learning and there is always someone who is better than us. The challenge is to improve day by day. Today is your last day on earth , what do you want to do? I’d be with the people I love. 19

“My name is Giacomo and I’m an Illustrator” That’s what I say when people ask me about myself, most of them don’t know what I’m talking about. I graduated at IED in Rome, Italy in 2012 with an Animation & Illustration degree, since then i’ve explored many fields such as Illustration, Animation, Character Design, Graphic Design and Set Design. Personally, I can’t think of a better job, here the possibilities are endless and even if it’s really hard and competitive the satisfaction you get back is great." g i a c o m o

Federico Bonifacini was born in Buenos Aires where he lives now. After graduating he studied Film direction and acting with different teachers. In 2008 he decided to turn his hobby (illustration) into a profession without leaving his acting classes. His first job was a storyboard for Mtv Tv commercial. One year later, he joined to the art group of Metrogames, and began illustrating for the game industry. Nowadays he works as freelance illustrator & game designer for many clients around the world. be.net/federicobonifacini federicobonifacini(at)yahoo.com.ar 154

Magritte, Johannes Vermeer and so many others... Favorite taste: Hm... the taste of coffee? Favorite season: Except for Winter, I love them all. Biggest passion:
I’ll make a quote from Almost Famous, one of my favorite movies: “I dig music” Biggest adventure: Any time that I get back to my hometown, in Kazakhstan, me and my halfsister

always

arrange

some

crazy stuff. But I had some good and bad troubles in London last Summer, also in Dublin few years ago. I don’t know, any time I go somewhere abroad is a huge adventure and if it’s not I make sure something happens. I’m not the kind of person that waits for a miracle without doing anything. Biggest dream: Some of them became true and I did not even notice. I would love to travel more and more and to meet people that can help me to become a better person, a better artist. I would love Alexandr Bezuglykh

to never lose my artistic flair and my emotive overload in front of such beauties in the world! Ok, let’s say that in the most immediate time I “need” to visit few parts of America, places like Louisiana, just

randomly

roaming,

then

New York and Los Angeles. Also Canada is a big dream of mine. Biggest disappointment: I lost several people during my lifetime, some

162

of

them

unexplainably

disappeared, others just threw shit (if you cannot write shit turn it into “malice”) on me and then went away. My disappointment is about people who change and have no courage to explain their thoughts in a proper and sensitive way. What do you love most? Traveling, posing and singing! I also like to stay in bed talking to my friends on the phone, or to enjoy my coffee in the morning somewhere between the mountains with an interesting person to talk to. What do you hate most? Dishonesty at work, dishonesty about relationships, or people who never questioning about themselves. Music? I will make a quote from Almost Famous again: “First of all, is everything”. So many people talk about music as the most important thing in their life and I really do not know what that means in general. Of course every intelligent buddy on earth listens to some good music (and folks, Justin Bieber is not music), or composes music in the best of cases, but it’s really difficult to explain subjectively the meaning of a melody in your own story. I grew up with my dad as a guitarist and my mother as a dancer in a traditional Korean Theater, I really can’t imagine my life without these elements and I see the benefits of the music on me, so I’m just glad that I’m a

part of this mainstream I-can’tlive-without-music movement :) Day or Night? At this moment of my life I stay awake at night too much. I write my articles and I just enjoy the magic emptiness of the Web. But, I know this sounds a bit “grandmy”, I see that I am much more fresh and less stressed if I live the day and sleep the night. Places you’d like to visit. (already told you talking about my dreams) About your work? (told about it up there). Why modeling? I started modeling for myself, I was

studying

photography at

school and I had no idea I could contact models to pose for me. So I begun with some self-portraits and a photographer noticed me and this is how I started. I was just curious and I didn’t know what to do. I didn’t like my body that much and I wasn’t that selfconfident, so I thought that posing would be a good exercise for me to love myself more, maybe. I keep posing without even asking myself why I am doing that, I just love it, it keeps me alive and refreshed and I have the fortune to meet amazing people and to visit new places all the times. I can see myself interpreting incredible characters,

ask for a better work right now, even when it goes down a little bit, I try to keep it positive and to dedicate myself to the photography

anyway.

Next

Project? I have new editorials on their way and a new videoclip, but I really cannot say more, maybe because I’m kind of suspicious, but I have my reasons to talk less and to do more! People are evil! One advice to who wants to be model. Girls, don’t let the others say who you are and how you have to be, find your

aesthetic

strength

and

your inner force and just go on making your best. If you really worth it, you will make it, but do never put all your hopes on modeling

only,

because

the

young beauty the clients and most of the photographers look for is not for ever, while your skills in jobs which not require your pretty face will always save your skin in darker times. Today is your last day on earth, what do you want to do? I don’t want to sound rude or superficial, but I want to make sex with someone that matters. Oh, and to smoke a cigarette and to eat some cold pizza. Or I’d love to throw myself from the Grand Canyon in Arizona or from the Valley Of Castles in Kazakhstan, If I have Anna Morosini

to die, I choose the way of. n i n a
