All the team can’t wait for the Christmas markets to return along with late night shopping! Anyway, on to the more important issue - Welcome to a brand new DV8! So you will find plenty of new substance to peruse over - a new business section for all those budding entrepreneurs out there, a DV8 rides page with some great tips and offers and a chef of the month page with his recipe for Tex-Mex Fajitas. That is all on top of our face lift! For those of you who want to see if you have been ‘papped’ this month, we still have our hallowed shenanigans and gallery pages. We also have interviews with Mollie and Rochelle from the Saturdays! And with all that, we bid you adieu until next month x

DOING IT LIKE A LADY Every so often there comes along a star. It doesn’t happen often, but when it does, people admire it. Jessie J is one of the shiniest stars in the sky this year. Not only does she possess a killer voice, she has underlying values that permeate her music. In an industry that is imageobsessed, where the focus is more about fashion and personality than musical talent, Jessie manages to break out of the mould and be more famous for her incredible voice than her quirky looks. Selling out venues across the country on her UK ‘Heartbeat Tour’ and already going down a storm in the States, Jessie has proved that she is here to stay. And it’s just as well really, because there is nothing better for the pop industry than someone who has a purpose behind their creation. So what is Jessie’s purpose? Well, she isn’t afraid to be honest, that’s for sure. She laughs in the face of her critics and sends out a vigorous message through her music and
image that it is ok to be true to who you are. Never one to shy away from chatting about her bi-sexuality, Jessie is very clear about who she is and isn’t afraid to sing about it. Her music speaks for itself – with songs aptly titled ‘Nobody’s Perfect’ and ‘Stand Up’ she endeavours to bring courage to those too ashamed to accept themselves for who they are. She has often said that she believes music is a form of therapy, and that she considers herself half-artist, halftherapist. Beginning her Bournemouth set in a large throne, Jessie stunned the crowds with an hour and a half-long energetic set. With no interval (apart from dashing off for a toilet break), and no costume changes (except for the addition of a shark hat to celebrate being near the seaside), her performance at the BIC on the 23rd of October was incredible. In a league all of her own, Jessie J has the talent, the image, but most importantly there are core values in her songs which encourage honesty and self-acceptance. Photos: www.charlieraven.com.

Set to release their third studio album ‘On Your Radar’ on the 21st, The Saturdays are only going from strength to strength. Both such starlets, they have managed to make us envy them even more after landing themselves top man candy - Mollie is dating David Gandy, the notorious Dolce & Gabbana model, and Rochelle is dating Marvin of JLS stardom. Go girls!

Y
ou are due to come to Bournemouth on your big arena tour in December. What do you love most about touring?
M: Every single night you are doing what you love to do. You also get to meet the fans, which is just literally the best thing. R: Touring is what we signed up to do. We always wanted to be performers, and that’s our main passion. It is the best feeling ever. You have toured all over the country. Have you got a favourite city to perform in? M: I can’t wait to perform at Wembley - it is something that I have dreamt of since I was tiny! I love Bournemouth as well you know, truthfully, because it is one of the smaller venues so it allows for a more intimate experience. You have performed several times in Bournemouth, but have you ever had a night out here? M: I haven’t yet, but I would definitely love to! When I was applying to Universities I was actually looking at doing Media at Bournemouth because I know that their Media School is one of the best and I really love it in Bournemouth. R: Yes, I did go to a bar in Bournemouth last time I was there… I can’t remember what it was called, but I know for a fact that it was fun! So your new album ‘On Your Radar’ is released this month. Have you got a favourite track on the album? M: I think my favourites are ‘Notorious’ and also ‘Last Call’ which is a song that Una wrote with Lucie Silvas. R: I also love ‘Last Call’ – it is such a lovely ballad. We were a lot more ‘hands on’ with this album; more involved in every step of the process. On to fashion now… It goes without saying that you two always look great! Have you got a favourite place to shop? Are there any celebs who you idolise? M: Thank you! I love Topshop and I also enjoy the occasional splurge on designer items. R: I cannot get enough of Zara! If I splurge then it tends to be on designer bags and shoes. For fashion inspiration, I look to Kim Kardashian she always looks incredible. You girls always look so glamorous and well groomed. Do you have beauty regimes that you follow religiously? M: It is funny because when I started the band I honestly had no idea about any of it, I literally used to carry around a bar of soap and Rochelle was like ‘What are you doing?’ I didn’t used to know anything about cleansing, toning and moisturising, but I have definitely learnt since being with the girls! Mollie, you have just hosted the BBC Radio 1 Teen Awards with Grimmy! How was that for you?
19:13
Page 13
M: Ah, it was amazing! It was so much fun! I was so nervous beforehand– I haven’t done anything like that before but Nick really looked after me. I had an absolute ball! Do you ever get star struck? Have you ever done anything really embarrassing in front of someone famous? M: Oh god! I am awful! I get star struck by everybody! The girls are always like ‘Come on Mollie! Pull yourself together!’ Do either of you get nervous before going on stage? R: I am a strong believer that a little nerves are a good thing, but I don’t find it too bad – it is my job so the stage is where I feel the most comfortable. In all your years of being scrutinized by the unforgiving media, have you ever had any glaring wardrobe malfunctions? M: We have definitely had a few wardrobe disasters, yes! I look back on photos sometimes and think ‘Oh my goodness, why was I wearing that!’ We have also had one or two things on stage that have gone wrong. I remember our first ever tour with Girls Aloud - I was wearing a tight tube dress on our opening night, and my mic pack was slotted down the back of the dress and in the first song, it flew out! So that was a bit of a disaster! Is it hard to believe that you started out your career supporting Girls Aloud and now you are arguably just as successful? M: It is definitely weird, but I would never think of us as being as successful as them because in my eyes they are absolute superstars. But it was an incredible place to start our career. R: It is kind of nuts! Quite hard to believe really… We are just about to start our arena tour, and we started off as a support act, and so it is quite amazing when you think about it like that. Rochelle, you had success with S Club Juniors long before The Saturdays came on the scene. Was it hard to deal with the pressure and fame at such a young age? R: Even though I was twelve, I didn’t know any different. I always knew that singing and performing was something I wanted to do. Do either of you have a dream collaboration you would love to work with? R: Well I am really happy that we have recorded a duet with Travie McCoy for ‘On Your Radar.’ Moving on to men… What qualities do you look for in a man? M: I like somebody who can make me laugh, somebody who can look after me, and someone who is quite protective. Somebody who treats me like a princess!
Do paps follow you when you are with your boyfriends? Do you find it quite invasive? M: When you are at work, you expect it and you can’t really moan too much because we obviously knew that it was going to happen when we signed up for the band. But when the paps come into your personal life, that is when it can become really quite intrusive and it is easy to get quite upset by it. R: You just have to learn to ignore it. Some days it can really be intense, but it is just part and parcel of our lifestyle and you learn to get used to it to be honest. Is it hard to keep your romantic lives going when you are so busy? R: Not really. I believe that if you want to keep something going, then you can. Do you have a favourite JLS song Rochelle? R: Their songs are all good, I don’t think I have a favourite! In an interview earlier this year Mollie, you revealed that you have only kissed four or five men before getting together with your latest squeeze. Do you consider yourself a role model for lots of young girls who idolise you? M: It is really hard to think of yourself like that, but I would like to think that I behave quite well. I am not sure you can ever think of yourself as a role model otherwise you wind up putting too much pressure on yourself. I think you just have to act the best way you can and if people look up to you, then that is a lovely thing. Coming back to your band mates… You girls are always together, you seem like a family! Is there ever a day that goes past where you don’t talk to each other? R: We speak to each other every day, but most of the time we are working together every day. There isn’t often a day that goes by where we aren’t with each other to be honest. One last question… Mollie I have heard that you are dyslexic. How does this affect your day-to-day life? Does it affect your Twitter activity for example, or is it not something that affects you that much? M: I am dyspraxic which affects my reading more than anything. I find it difficult and read quite slowly. I tend to read the words in a sentence in the wrong order. In school exams I was allowed to type my answers. I think that I would like to show younger children who are fans of the band that you shouldn’t let it hold you back. Just go for it. You can catch The Saturdays on their ‘All Fired Up’ arena tour – coming to Bournemouth on the 2nd of December. Visit bic.co.uk/events for ticket info. Grab your heels, and see you there!

he DV8 girls had an excellent night at the A/W Beales Fashion Show in aid of Julia’s House. After being greeted with bubbly and fairy cakes, attendees were offered complimentary beauty advice and the opportunity to get their paws pampered at the Mavala Nail Clinic. The Catwalk Collection included the latest party fashions for the forthcoming festive season. With a special performance from X Factor’s hunks The Reason 4, 20% off selected items, and goodie bags, we left with a smile and can’t wait for the next GNO! Catwalk photo: Simon Ackerman.
T
he uber-talented, flame-haired Ed Sheeran brought his acoustic folk vibe to Bournemouth on the 4th of October. As the crowds chanted “we want Ed” the excitement built up so much that when he eventually appeared, you wouldn’t have heard a pin drop! Using a loop station, his rendition of ‘Wayfaring Stranger’ was particularly moving; it is plain to see why he has shot to fame so quickly. Refusing to leave the stage, Ed performed an extended set, finishing with a cover of Leonard Cohen’s ‘Hallelujah.’ Photo: Charlie Raven.

obody could ever say there isn’t any fresh talent on our radar - for on Thursday 13th October, local residents came out to support those brave enough to showcase their musical talent at Penn Central’s Open Mic Night in Lower Parkstone. The night was a success! With a chilled out vibe, the vocal styles ranged from pop to hip-hop. The acoustics spread throughout the venue as several acts began to turn up with their own instruments. The crowd supported, danced and cheered during the many performances. DV8 can’t wait for Penn’s next Nu Sound event. Photos: Chris Roberts.

ambo the new fashion emporium had its official launch on the 13th of October. It is an exciting time for Mambo as the brand has become independent again, and new stores are opening across the country showcasing Mambo’s quirky spirit. In Post Office Road, live music at the entrance to the store and plentiful supplies of free beer kept people entertained whilst they browsed the new collections. DV8 HITS ASHLEY CROSS
I
n the heart of Parkstone lies Ashley Cross, a vibrant enclave situated between Bournemouth and Poole which spoils its residents with an array of bars and restaurants. Becoming ever more popular, Ashley Cross attracts a slightly older crowd than the typical Bournemouth haunts. To see in the new month, we happily threw on our dancing shoes and headed to Le Bateau for a spot of dancing. To catch our breath, we then checked out The Grove’s top-quality cocktails, and finished the night perched on the sofas in The Cow! If you haven’t been to Ashley Cross before then we suggest you hail the next available taxi! Photos: Andy Mann.

AGENDA: ISLAND HOPPING Thailand has so much to offer for even the most unseasoned traveller, but if you want to see some sunshine just when the winter chill bites then follow our lead. From relaxation to partying the night away ....we’ve got it covered.
LONELY PLANET
MUST SEE AND DO:
1. ELEPHANT TREKKING
3.
MAYA BAY
LAPLAND
Elephant Trekking in Thailand is a growing industry as more and more logging elephants are becoming redundant. The tropical rain forest of Koh Lanta island is completely unspoiled, and we recommend elephant trekking here to see nature at its best.
Maya Bay is a stunningly beautiful bay that's sheltered by 100 metre high cliffs on three sides. Situated on Koh Phi Phi Leh, it became popular among tourists due to the Hollywood film ‘The Beach’ being filmed there. With its crystal clear blue water, it is a must-see.
DIVING - KOH TAO
Thailand’s islands are renowned for their beautiful reefs and excellent diving. Can’t dive? Fear not, Koh Tao has plenty of 5 day PADI courses to choose from, and once qualified, you can dive anywhere in the world! Worth it, if you want to try something different.
FULL MOON PARTY
You simply cannot visit Thailand without staying for Koh Phangan’s Full Moon Party. Based in Haad Rin, the party happens every month and is an all night beach event. The bars of sunrise beach stay open and play music through the night. Think Ibiza only bigger.

Lonely Planet knows how to kick back on Thailand's best beaches. They've detailed the best places to stay, no matter what your budget. Go diving off gorgeous Ko PhiPhi, surrender to serenity - or the Full Moon Party on Ko Pha-Ngan, island hop in the Similans...it's all at your fingertips.

This beautiful land of silent snowfall and polar twilight offers a magical experience. There aren’t many places in the world that you can see the Northern Lights.

JAMES CREGAN
Former DV8 man, Jimbo (pictured with his sister and business partner) could well be the new Levi Roots. Jimbo talks coffee and fun!
An optimist is a father who will let his son take the new car on a date. A pessimist is one who won't. A cynic is one who did. You've all heard the phrase and remember the song, "Don't worry. Be happy." Good advice. Easy to say but hard to do. In fact, 85% of people tend to be on the negative, pessimistic side of things. And the way you check that out is to look at your first reaction to any bit of news you get. If, for example, you get an e-mail from your boss that says, "See me immediately," what is your first reaction? Is your first reaction, "Great, the raise is coming early this year?" Or is your first reaction, "What did I do wrong this time?" 85% expect the negative ... and therefore ... are negative. What about you? Would you count yourself among the 15% that have a persistently positive attitude? Or would you find yourself among the 85% who see more of the negative side of things? Which of the two following hunters would you be?
You can get your hands on Jimmy’s in Waitrose and online at Ocado.com.
1
How did you come up with the brand 'Jimmy's Iced Coffee'? I discovered epic Iced Coffee in Australia whilst being a bum. I was called Jimmy in Oz, so when I came back and realised the only thing on offer was a coffee flavoured milk drink, I thought my company could be called Jimmy's Iced Coffee!
22
2
How does your product compare to other off-shelf iced coffee brands? Ours is rad. We use English milk. We care. We're a family brand. Our coffee and sugar are ethically sourced. Our packaging is nicer. We're really refreshing. We use only 5 ingredients. We can't compete with the massive guys, so we do our own thing.
3
Has it been tough to get this product off the ground? It's been tough, but tough equals fun if you love what you do. It's not stress, you've got to look at it as a giant to do list. You are the only person who can make it fun. If you're your own boss and you're stressing yourself out, there's not really any point in doing it!
DV8 BOURNEMOUTH /// NOVEMBER 2011
4
Have you got any tips for other budding entrepreneurs? Only do it if your idea doesn't stop pounding your brain. It needs to bug the living hell out of you. That way, you'll be able to feed it. In the words of Hilary, the shoulder padded Dragon: "If the beast is hungry, the beast needs feeding." She is amazing.
5
What influenced the retro design of the brand? I don't know to be honest. It was a mix of a heap of things really, picking out nice pieces of design or text and merging together to create something nice. I guess Chris Raymond and Interabang knew what we wanted and delivered it, bang on the money.
The first hunter not only loves to hunt, but he's also a great hunter. So, he goes out to buy the best hunting dog he can find. He just didn't realize how good of a dog he found until he took the dog out to the lake. Within minutes, the hunter shot a duck and sent the dog after it. The dog headed out, walked on the water across the lake, got the duck and brought it back. Naturally, the hunter couldn't believe his eyes. A little later he shot another duck. And again the dog walked on the water, across the lake, and got that duck. He was absolutely astonished. About that time a second hunter came by to watch what was going on. He watched as the first hunter shot another duck, and he watched the dog walk across the water to get it. Finally after a few moments of silence, the first hunter asked the second one, "Did you notice anything funny about that dog?" The second hunter replied, "Yeah, I noticed something funny. That dog can't swim!"

RIDE OF THE MONTH Mercedes C-Class Coupé and SLK Roadster This year has been a landmark for MercedesBenz – the 125th anniversary of its co-founder creating the world’s first car.
B
oth new Mercedes-Benz can be enjoyed for less than £300 per month with one of the affordable finance packages currently being offered by Mercedes-Benz of
Poole.
For added peace-of-mind, owners can also take out a popular Service Care plan, which would enable them to take care of all of their future servicing requirements without any worries about inflationary price rises or unexpected bills. The scheme offers a simple and straightforward way of budgeting for the future maintenance, which for a few pounds more, customers can incorporate into their finance agreement. Alternatively they can choose to conveniently pay by monthly direct debit as they would their other regular outgoings.
In a momentous year for one of the world’s most famous marques, local retailer Mercedes-Benz of Poole is giving the region’s car buyers much to celebrate by making the ownership of the latest models more affordable than ever before.
Whether opting for the Coupé or the Convertible, it’s fair to say that drivers will get plenty of car for their money. Mercedes-Benz’s first compact, classic coupé was launched with the AMG Sport model line, which enhances the car’s stunning profile with 18-inch AMG alloy wheels, AMG bodystyling and the Intelligent Light System with Bi-xenon headlights. Also included as standard is speed-sensitive sports steering and Bluetooth connectivity.
Two recent arrivals at the retailer’s Holes Bay Road showroom are the curvaceous C-Class Coupé and the sensational SLK Roadster – cars capable of turning heads just as much as Karl Benz’s threewheeled Motorwagen did when it first trundled into view in 1886.
Meanwhile the striking SLK Roadster is drop top gorgeous in every respect – its muscular exterior inspired by the SLS AMG super sports car. This latest generation version features new colours, trim materials, enhanced equipment levels and a host of innovations such as a new telematics generation with a 5.8” colour display and Magic Sky Control. This panoramic varioroof creates an ‘open-air’ experience even in cold weather as it is virtually transparent but can also be switched to ‘dark’ at the touch of a button to provide welcome shade. To find out more about the new C-Class Coupe and the SLK Roadster and the affordable ways to get behind the wheel of one of them, please contact the sales team at Mercedes-Benz of Poole on 01202 666330.
With their sporty styling, scintillating performance, luxurious comfort and extensive specifications, the newcomers are certainly a world apart from Benz’s breakthrough but also many of the rivals in their sectors. And it’s definitely not their dashing good looks that catch the eye.

Kia Rio 1.1

Toyota Prius T3
Overthrowing the Smart Fortwo, the Kia Rio has been given the title of UK’s most economical car. With 88.3mpg and 85g/km CO2, Kia says it is the most ‘economical and conventional engine car on sale.’
The UK’s former most fuel-efficient car, the Smart Fortwo CDI diesel is now in second place. It averages an impressive 85.6mpg and emits just 90g/km emissions, with decent refinement capabilities.
The world-renowned Toyota Prius was the first mainstream eco-friendly car to gain global appeal. The greenest is the T3. With smaller, lower-drag wheels, it averages 72.4mpg and emits just 89g/km CO2.

>>CULINARY DELIGHTS CHEF TIPS
CHEF OF THE MONTH BANANA WHARF’S DANNY
Flavours’ Des offers his tips to culinary distinction...
ZESTING Every good chef knows that when zesting a lemon or a lime, you should cover the grater with greaseproof paper before zesting. The paper catches the zest and saves on any wastage. Happy zesting folks!
History of the Head Chef: Danny White is 37 and originally comes from Kent. Danny started work as a Kitchen Porter when he was 15 years of age and had his first chef position when he was only 16. Danny went back to college at 22 to study for three years before qualifying. He has lived and worked in the Poole/ Bournemouth area for the past 8 years and was Head Chef in Bistro Pacifico in the Studland Dene Hotel for two years from 2004 - 2006. Danny next took up the role of Kitchen Manager in Sixty Millions Postcards in Exeter Road before leaving in 2007 to take up the position of Sous Chef in Le Bateau Bistro in Ashley Cross. Danny joined Banana Wharf firstly as a Sous Chef and after only 3 months he was appointed Head Chef in June 2011.
Whether you are a total novice or a confident cook, Flavours School of Cookery has got what it takes to steer you in the right direction. In a fun and comfortable environment, Des Burke (who has previously worked in numerous Michelin star restaurants) demonstrates the techniques you need to create amazing dishes. DV8’s Matt and Alice attended the two hour Vegetarian Cooking Class. Des taught us how to make three dishes: lentil dahl, potato gnocchi with marinara sauce and polenta with porcini freschi...
POTATO GNOCCHI
TEX-MEX FAJITAS Ingredients per person: 6 Oz of chicken breast or beef fillet. 1 onion 1 of each bell pepper (yellow, green, and orange) Tortilla wraps (4/6) 2/3 T Spoon of spice mix Fajita seasoning. (50/80G) of grated cheddar.
Preparation method Slice the meat into strips and slice half of all bell peppers and half the onion into strips. Oil and heat the pan/wok, and fry meat until starting to brown. Add the sliced peppers and onion and cook lightly so the veg still has some crunch. Add the fajita seasoning to taste and cook for a further 30 seconds so the seasoning sticks and browns the ingredients. Serve on a heated skillet with Lime wedges, a garnish and wraps. To make Guacamole you will need a ripe avocado, lemon, soured cream and sweet chilli sauce. Firstly, peel the avocado and remove the pip, mash the avocado and add a teaspoon of soured cream and sweet chilli sauce. Squeeze lemon wedges and season with salt & pepper. Mix and refrigerate. To make the Soured Cream - Whip until almost firm, squeeze lemon to taste and mix again. For the Tomato Salsa - Dice remaining peppers and onion, add half a tin of chopped tomatoes, season with salt & pepper and squeeze a lemon.
BAKE THE SPUDS PEELING If you ever need to use fresh ginger in a recipe, then there is an easy way to peel it! With a spoon! Yes. A spoon. Ginger skin is so delicate that it can be damaged by a sharp knife, whereas a spoon can softly scrape into the skin. You waste less of your precious ginger this way.
DV8 BOURNEMOUTH /// NOVEMBER 2011
After baking the potatoes in their jackets, remove the flesh and add 1 tbsp flour. Work to a dough. Roll into small dumpling shapes.
INDENTATION Use a fork to indent the dumplings. Bring a pan of water to the boil and drop in the gnocchi. They rise to the surface within 10 mins.

e Petit Chou Fleur is a new Bournemouth business specialising in French and Scandinavian fine dining, established by Christian Ørner. Up to seven courses can be served directly in the comfort of your own home. To start, the DV8 team had ‘Soupe du Chou Fleur’ which was exceptionally thick and creamy. We also had al-dente ravioli which comprised three individual raviolis: beetroot and goat’s cheese, tomato and mozzarella, and spinach. For mains we were treated to panroasted Corn-fed chicken breasts served with fondant potato, broccoli puree, green beans and chicken jus. The fondant potato was rich and complimented the succulent chicken perfectly. We had just enough room left for dessert and happily tucked into the apple tarte tatin served with cinnamon chantilly. Prices start from £40 per meal, and the washing up will be done for you!

V8’s Becki and Alice were spoilt for choice at the Lotus Lounge Buffet in Ashley Cross. You can try as many dishes as you like; each dish is served in tapas portions, which means that you can try a vast array of starters and mains without filling up too quickly. On telling the staff one of us was a vegetarian, they were only too willing to be flexible – offering to substitute tofu for any of the dishes containing meat. For starters, we ordered crispy spring rolls served with a sweet chilli dip, crispy seaweed and tempura mixed vegetables, ribs in BBQ sauce, crispy smoked chilli chicken, and curry samosa. The tempura mixed veg were
30
particularly delectable – a fine mix of peppers and baby corn. Next came the dish that everyone who loves Chinese cuisine raves about: aromatic duck pancakes. The duck was a perfect combination of crispy yet succulent. We didn’t hold back on the mains either, and ordered plan pad thai, chicken in black bean sauce, shredded beef and chilli, and bamboo shoots with water chestnuts. The pad thai was to die for: dry and light bodied, with freshly squeezed lime drizzled over the top. All in all, a great experience, with really attentive and happy waitressing staff. We recommend the Buffet Menu - for just £13.90 Sunday Thursday. Well worth a visit!

een to try something different, the DV8 team headed down to Beirut Lounge in Old Christchurch Road. We were greeted with a friendly smile, and felt at home right away. We were swiftly brought some Lebanese beer to try. As it is the sister restaurant of Retro in Charminster, the staff are experienced and happily cater to all requirements. To start, they brought us a mixed mezzé platter, which comprised hummous, tabbouleh, home-made falafel drizzled with tahini sauce, grilled halloumi cheese, stuffed vine leaves, garlic chicken wings, and a cheese sambousak. New to Lebanese cuisine, we all devoured the mezzé, particularly
the tahini sauce – a paste of roasted sesame seeds, lemon juice and finely chopped garlic. Already feeling a little full after such a marvellous starter, we paused for a few minutes before ordering some delicious main courses. We opted for a Mixed Grill which comprised chicken kebab, lamb kafta kebab, and minced lamb khashkash. The vegetarian among us ordered the moussaka. The texture of the moussaka’s aubergine was so wonderfully tender that it practically melted in your mouth! Be sure to check out Beirut’s special Christmas offer: one starter, one main, and 1 glass of wine/bottle of beer for just £12.50. We urge you to book now!

t doesn’t get much better than an early morning run along the beach or a late night jog. You can breathe in the fresh sea air whilst enjoying some scenic exercise at the same time. Some of the more cynical readers might be thinking that DV8 are going mad with this one… but let us re-assure you that it is in fact the best time of year to run along the beach. There are seriously few people out there at this time of the year, and so you can really knuckle down and get some decent running training in. You can either run along the shoreline of the sand or along the promenade of course. If you are going to run on the sand (which is a much tougher workout and will really help tone up your calves) then we suggest that you run along the shoreline because the sand is much firmer there than further up the beach. You can also run up and down the Bournemouth and Boscombe zig zag routes if you are looking to do interval training. There are plenty of different beach runs you can do in this area: you can run from Bournemouth Pier to Boscombe Pier and back (three miles), or you can run from Bournemouth Pier to Shore Road and back (six miles), or for a four mile run you could try running from Boscombe Pier to the final bit of tarmac on the way to Hengistbury Head and back! You can use these different lengths to train up if you are building up for the marathon.

>>YOGA POSE OF THE MONTH
Yoga originated more than ten thousand years ago in ancient India. It has now spread dramatically and extended into Western cultures. Yoga is an experience involving the mind and the body. It translates as the experience of unity and grew from the need to comprehend the physical and subtle emotions of the spirit. The goal of yoga is the attainment of perfect spiritual oneness.

MEN AND YOGA If you are a wife or girlfriend... please show this to your man! Until very recently, yoga was practiced exclusively by men in India. But it seems sadly that many men nowadays are concerned that they will not be welcome in a yoga class, or they seemingly worry that they aren’t flexible enough to try it. This is such an unfortunate misconception - yoga will improve your flexibility - you do not need to be flexible to do it. Many yoga poses actually make more sense for a man’s body. Some postures require a lot of upper body strength, which women often lack at first.
In exercise, you fail if you miss your goal. In yoga, you succeed by trying. Yoga is a process. Yoga enhances an athlete's performance by teaching them how to breathe properly, how to relax and how to gain flexibility. Yoga improves
the oxygenisation of the blood through an increased heart rate and deeper breathing, especially through styles such as Ashtanga and Hot Yoga (offered at Yoga Room) which have a strong focus on the flow of postures.
• Raise the navel up towards the chest to straighten the lower back.
General Overview: Adho Mukha Svanasana is one of the postures which form part of the sun salutation series in yoga. It is an energising pose which works to strengthen the arms and legs and to help stretch the hamstrings, calves, shoulders and hands. If practiced with awareness to the body’s limitations, benefits include improved digestion, and calming the mind. The pose also relieves back pain and fatigue and even helps to relieve stress and depression. It is also therapeutic for sufferers of asthma, sciatica and flat feet.

V8's Alex was happy to visit Reflexions in Poole to test out the incredible 'Dry Body Wrap' treatment, and oh my, were we impressed! The treatment is designed to lose those last few irritating inches from the body, just in time to slim into your Christmas party dress. The treatment works best when following a healthy diet and exercise and can be a real boost in morale to the end of a dieting regime.
DRY BODY WRAP REFLEXIONS SALON IN POOLE
It works by compressing the fatty layer of tissue over your legs and stomach, with which any excess fat disperses into the lymphatic system for the body to rid of all toxins. The treatment lasts for roughly an hour and a half, dependant on the size of the client. Adrianna (the owner of Reflexions) gave the treatment and began by taking the measurements of my whole body. She then applied a thick warm gel all over and covered the specific areas of my body in thermal wraps nice and tightly. Half an hour was given to rest on the bed and allow the wraps to work their magic. In this time, a complimentary hand and arm massage was given, which made sure I was very relaxed, although I was told that if an Indian head massage or facial is desired, this can be done at a supplementary cost. The wraps were then removed and any excess gel was wiped away using warm mitts. Adrianna re-measured my body and in total, I lost 12.5 centimetres from my midriff and legs – a huge success. I would definitely recommend this treatment for its long-term effects on the body.

minutes, Alice headed to the basin for Kate’s amazing head massage! Xclusive uses Matrix – a global brand committed to the finest quality. On Alice’s hair, Ashleigh used a range of Matrix products, including the Design Pulse Thermo Glide which gave a silky, soft finish after blow-drying. All this costs just £48 and if you are pushed for time within your working week then they are open till late every Thursday. Visit their Salon at 85 Castle Lane West - call 01202 522552 to book your appointment. www.xclusivehair.co.uk.
DERMA ROLLING
T
BEFORE 38
AFTER
DV8 BOURNEMOUTH /// NOVEMBER 2011
he Dermaroller treatment is a unique procedure devised to reduce the appearance of skin imperfections, making the skin smoother, healthier and younger looking. Amanda from Fresh Face performed the procedure which took 2 hours, the face is firstly numbed using anaesthetic cream which is left for 30minutes, a small tool consisting of 192 micro needles is rolled over the face to puncture the skin which initiates the skin to heal itself, triggering the production of collagen and elastin. Dermarolling is not suitable for all, though Amanda is careful to thoroughly assess patients during a free consultation where the whole procedure is discussed in detail. Amanda provided me with all the after care materials I needed. The results take up to 6 weeks to appear so watch this space! freshfacetreatment.co.uk.
The ‘Dry Body Wrap’ normally costs £45, but is well worth it so call Reflexions on 01202 666616 to book your appointment now.

NY STYLE TIPS
STYLE SCOOP
N
ew York is known for its trademark colour – Black, or so many like to think, but if you look beyond what meets the eye you will see that as far as fashion is concerned this city is awash with colour. Be it in the form of a print, block colour or even the simple details such as piping along a top.
WITH GERARD VALLECELLO TOP TIPS: Prints: - Pick the ones that can be used all year round. This season is all about clashing prints! Try a printed silk scarf wrapped around the handle of your bag chic!
This month marks my 2nd year of contributing to DV8 magazine, so I want to tap on the print topic. Delicate and sometimes overly fussy floral prints have given way of late - to oversized futuristic blooms worthy of this high-tech obsessed digital era. On trend prints are eye-catching and statement-making patterns that are ultra-feminine with the perfect hint of techno edge. Best ways to make use of prints: They must be used seasonably. Pick the ones that can be used all year round. Take prints with Roses in them for example: while Autumn/ Winter is upon us, it is best to use them in rouge with black tones. Keep away from bright yellows and pick petals or leaves instead of the whole flower or tree for a print.
ZSA ZSA BOUTIQUE
D
V8’s Fashion Editor Naomi went to check out the newest buzz in Westbourne - Zsa Zsa Boutique. Definitely not to be missed, this boutique invites all shoppers in for the finest experience possible. The store was established two years ago by Dan Brafman, and has since gone from strength to strength. It has expanded now to keep up with demand. Following in true boutique tradition, Zsa Zsa only stocks a few of each item – which makes the shopping
experience all the more enticing. Every piece is inkeeping with the catwalk’s latest trends and with a glamorous twist. There are fabulous bags all laid out around the shop. The dresses wouldn’t look out of place on a Hollywood red carpet. We can assure you that Zsa Zsa is the hub for all your fashion needs. The boutique caters for a variety of ages and gives you that chic look without breaking the bank. Ladies be sure to check it out and grab yourself a stylish piece for the winter season.
In accessories: Try a beautiful printed silk scarf wrapped around the handle of your bag, this will enrich the bag making it more chic. Left: Victoria Beckham A/W 2011 Collection. £1,495 Above: Dress £45 available from www.littlewoods.com
