Characters and description
Doris: she is Guy´s wife and is described by him as a deficient and intelligent english woman. Guy: a colonizer that is in charge of a outstation in the Malayan islands. He´s described as an “ugly, little fat man but with a charm” by Doris. Malayan girl: a girl that lived with Guy for a while before he was married with Doris. She had three kids with him and lived with Guy for about ten years.

Plot The story is about Guy and his wife Doris and how they get to know each other during a month´s holiday. After the short time they spend together, Guy proposes Doris to marry him and she accepts. He takes Doris to live with him at the outstation he works on and they enjoy together their honeymoon the first months in a place called Sembulu. Suddenly he tells Doris about a Malayan girl he was living with for years and Doris takes a bit of time for herself to think about that and puts a bit of distance between them. She tells Guy that she needs six months to think well about that. Eventhough she is determined to leave nevertheless. Personal opinion about the story I find this story a relatively short, but not so interesting because it was not so easy to understand and follow the plot because I find it a bit boring and slow-developed. On the other hand, it is a nice story.
