I am a Visual Designer that has been shaped by the environments which I seek out. My upbringing was not all that unique. So, I have moved around the counry a bit, in search of new experiences. In doing so, I have learned a great deal about why I want to be a designer. Much of my intrigue in projects is being able to bring order to a potentially chaotic bit of information. This might be why I crave structure in my design aesthetic.

SUMMARY OF BRIEF:
2017
During this project, I was tasked to design a book about vertical farming, using existing research and articles. I wanted to echo the feeling of the topic through subtle imagery, shapes and adjustments in orientation of text.

Applying the text in two small columns, the goal was to allow strong typography mimic the staggered design of vertical farms with a flush left, ragged right alignment. Sticking with two spot colors, and black and white photography, the book should emit a modern style through simplicity and beautiful shapes.

Toys are supposed to be fun and energetic. All ages of people find joy in different toys and games. I redesigned a website for a local toy store. How do you visually speak to adults about toys for kids, while still intriguing them to sign up for craft classes on their own?

Previously, there was little, to no organization on the site. They had poor navigation, and did not utilize available photography to help the user in visually understanding the product and navigation. Using a direction that focused on the products in use, I established a simple navigation menu, and updated their colors, to be more pleasing while viewing the site. In addition, I went with simple text for the wordmark used on the site, to keep the user’s eye focused on each product being viewed.

When a brand dies out, is there anyone around to restore it to its former glory? I breathed new life into Body Glove. Previously known as a surfing company, pioneering the dive suit, my focal point was superb protection, allowing you to live life adventuoursly.

With a newly designed logo, redirected red and white colors, and extending Body Glove’s reach into new product categories through protection, such as sunscreen, a rebrand was complete. The new brand standards are available as a digital book, a website, and as a single page brand guide.

SUMMARY OF BRIEF:

When a young artist gives the performance of a lifetime, is there an audience there to see it? Taking a local theatre performance and elevate the awareness of it through stronger print assets and a free app. Local theatre is forgotten about all too often, when there is something so exciting about the raw art form, even with limited budgets.

The theatre only had flyers made with clip art posted around town. The flyers were printed on a high quality paper, so there was some budget to at least allocate toward printing. My goal here was to get people in the door posters that were intriguing. The app was also a compliment to the campaign, where convenience helps inprove attendence. Once in the door, Let’s award them with a quality experience, beginning with a nicely designed playbill. This type of simple takeaway captures the attention of the audience before the performance even begins.

YEAR:
SUMMARY OF BRIEF:
2017
When local theatre relies on the community, how do you compete with larger performance art theaters in the city? How do you create an engaging website experience to entice the local community? This task included a rehaul of an existing website that was built in the early 2000s, and was merely informational with lots of text and color choices that impacted legibility.

DISCIPLINES:
SOLUTION:

The approach was to create a layout that has a visual hierarchy, bring the viewer’s attention to photos of performances, and having the viewer get a brief understanding of the theatre experience. The content had to be consolidated, and connected to the new visual layout. Removing the color palette from the website allowed the photography to be the main highlight, along with well-considered hierarchy of type to help keep navigation simple.

THANK YOU FOR VIEWING MY BOOK! Your time is extremely value and I truly appreciate you taking that time to look through my work. I hope that you can see the thought process and idea generation in the results. Beyond the excitement of design, and having the ability to craft something each day, I am also quite passionate about developing concepts and application to a given campaign.
