DEMOCRACY.

REFORM. MAKING LABOUR BETTER.

FOREWORD. Friends, As sad as it is to admit, Labour has stagnated. After the 4th General Election, the party became absolutely massive; even before we literally absorbed one entire party and half of another, we were the largest party in the simulation, and we let that get to our head. In many ways, the story of our Labour Party is that of a Greek tragedy; our hubris has led to the catastrophe of this GE, and to us being consigned to the political wilderness for this term. This doesn’t mean that we’ll be here forever, not at all. It will take a great deal of vision, and even more hard work, but I remain confident that, given time, dedication, and a great deal of hard work, Labour can once again become the behemoth we once were. I can take us there, if you’ll let me.

The Right Honourable AlmightyWibble MP

PROGRESS. HOPE. PEOPLE BEFORE PROFIT.

BACK TO BASICS. A LEGISLATIVE. Our first and foremost goal should be to become an active, contributing part of the simulation. To this end, I plan to introduce a flood of Labour legislation this term; I fully intend to show the House that we’re back, and we’re in force! In order to get the ball rolling, I plan on introducing a one bill quota for MPs; by my calculations, that would be enough to have at least one Labour bill in the House at all times. I’ll be supporting this by churning out bills in my spare time, too. In order to make sure that MPs are able to easily meet their duties in terms of writing legislation, I plan to expand the Bill Writing section of the Labour New Members Guide, in order to cover as many ways as possible to make bill writing easier.

RESTORING

TRUST IN OUR PARTY.

INTER-PARTY RELATIONS. RECONNECTING WITH OTHER PARTIES. I’m sure that anyone in touch with the feeling towards Labour in the simulation as a whole is rather aware of how dire a position we are in. I won’t mince my words; the vast majority of the parties in the simulation hate us, and those that don’t are the parties who we could never conscionable work with. Any half-decent candidate will need a plan of action to make the others like us again. Well, I’ve done one better; I’ve talked with the leadership of all the parties we would ever consider coalitions with, and got the answers straight out of the horse’s mouth, as it were. There were a couple of answers that came up again and again; becoming less of a mess of a party, and communicating better with our coalition partners. The former is something that needs to be done anyway, and the latter is something that we can fix relatively easily. I plan on working extremely closely with both the left and the centre this term, in order to get our legislation through, and it is my hope that through these small acts, we will be able to plant the seed of further cooperation between our parties.

A MESSAGE TO THE OUTSIDE To outside parties who read this, I’d like to apologise for Labour’s attitude towards you all in recent months. It hurt you just as much as it’s hurt us, and frankly, from what I’ve heard, I’m not in the least surprised you decided to go your own way. I promise to be better, and I’ll strive to make a Labour that one day, you can be happy to call an ally and a friend.

ACTIVITY. DISCUSSION.

CHANGE.

INTERNAL REFORMS. DIRECT DEMOCRACY. I’m going to be direct; the vast majority of our party’s bureaucracy is inactive, unaccountable, and just plain pointless. Case in point, the NEC; there hasn’t been a meeting since I became Deputy Leader, and indeed, I don’t believe there’s ever been a meeting. I object to the idea that a group of 8 barely accountable people have that sort of power, but even if I didn’t, I’d still feel that the NEC needs the chop. If you elect me as leader, I’ll be abolishing the NEC, and replacing it with some good old-fashioned direct democracy.

DECEDNTRALISING POLICY. It’s a similar problem with the NPF, although not as pronounced; the heads produced a list of policies, but as far as can be seen, the actual forums themselves weren’t really involved, with most ideas being generated either by the heads themselves, or by the general party. Thus, I’d like to see the NPF abolished, and replace it with a system of holding weekly debates on policy instead.

FIXING OUR SECURITY ISSUE. Firstly, for the sake of my own mental health, I will be ending the hunt for the person responsible for the past leaks. I’d like to say that wasn’t necessary, but honestly, if I keep up the hunt like I have recently, I will burn out in a matter of weeks. Secondly, I will be creating a new chat, in order to root out the duping problem once and for all. While in many ways, it’s not a perfect solution, we cannot carry on being the native colander of MHoC. In regards to the new chat, I plan on continuing the tradition of allowing trusted exmembers to stay; it’s aided greatly in fostering inter-party relations, and they’ve never been found to have leaked.

WORKING TOGETHER WE ACHIEVE MORE.

ENDORSEMENTS. “It is in my opinion that AlmightyWibble is the only choice to steady the sinking ship of the Labour party, In the Liberal Democrats we wish to hold good relations with all parties, even though we accept we cannot work with everyone at all times. The poor and vacuum strategy of the Labour party last term, and the poor Election performance in Leaders debate and in the votes is a real sign of how far the party has fallen, and for the sake of the simulation the party needs someone like Wibble, a skilled diplomat and a proven leader to save them from falling into the middle party abyss.” - /u/JellyTom, Prime Minister, Liberal Democrats. “I honestly believe Wibble is the best candidate Labour has for uniting as a party and becoming respectable on MHoC again. I don't agree with him politically on many things, but he is what Labour needs: a leader who communicates.” - /u/NicolasBroaddus, Radical Socialists.
