President’s Note Some times, I have been asked the question, “What is the thing that has brought you the greatest sense of achievement since Horizon began?” Actually, it is not easy to give a simple answer to this question since there were different significant achievements at different stages and by different people. When we designed and created a popular boat model, I was filled with a sense of accomplishment. When I heard compliments on our boats from happy boat owners, I was encouraged. When Horizon grows its business steadily, I appreciate that a lot. A few days ago, I met a senior worker at our shipyard, one who has been working with us for 20 years. He was bringing his grown son to join us, suddenly, I was touched by the two generations. Yes, it’s another motivation for me to keep moving forward because of the responsibilities I feel for our crew and staff, not to mention the clients. I am very happy to be engaged in the boating industry and I think of it as a dream job, since it is not only about fulfilling the dreams of each Horizon owner, but building the life dream for myself and my fellows. Grows Horizon’s Megayacht Roster
The design for the new Horizon Premier 120-foot raised pilothouse motor yacht was born from the need to satisfy Horizon’s ever-increasing international client roster with a sleek but voluminous yacht built on a generous beam and given well-appointed accommodations. The new yacht fills a gap in the megayacht lineup. For this new model, Hor izon-Premier turned to designer/stylist JC Espinosa, of Stuart, Florida, who is responsible for the design of the successful new Horizon Premier 130’ Tri-Deck motor yachts. A generous beam of 26’ 2” (7.98M) provided the designer, with sufficient space to accommodate four guest staterooms with ensuite bathrooms on the lower deck. This accommodations area is linked to the main deck by an innovative atrium stairway. In the style of megayachts, the owner’s stateroom is located forward on the main deck, guaranteeing privacy. This stateroom opens to a large owner’s bathroom a half-level below. Aft of the master stateroom, the main deck space flows into the large and well appointed salon and dining room, which in turn leads to a large aft deck suited and furnished for alfresco dining. It is important to note that all of the windows in the main salon have been made as large as possible so as to open the view to the sea. Behind the raised pilothouse is the expansive flying bridge, large enough to accommodate parties for dining or relaxing by the hot tub, or enjoy a refreshing drink from the well designed bar. Suitable crew quarters, which are located aft, consist of three double cabins with their respective bathrooms, as well as a crew mess/lounge. The fully enclosed tender garage, is big enough for a 19’ 8” (6M) tender, and is located aft of the crew area. One of the special design and engineering features worthy of special note is a
clever elevator/swim step that helps deploy the tender as well as provide divers with safe and easy access to the water. To ensure safety in operation, the Horizon Premier 120 raised pilothouse motor yacht will be built to full classification certification by Det Norske Veritas (DNV ). We are proud to note that its design criterion and construction standards are in compliance with HSLC (High Speed Light Craft) Rule with +1A1 R1, Yacht Notation and MCA LY2 Code. The strict and extensive supervision by DNV includes examination and verification of drawings covering Structure, Machinery, Electricity, Stability, Fire and Safety, and Navigation Electronics before construction. Each major piece of equipment is also checked for Type Approval and Working Certificate prior to installation. On-site surveyors provide full time inspection in the shipyard throughout the construction process and on to sea trials to make sure the entire building phase is in accordance with the regulations and standards of DNV Classification. As with all the Horizon yachts, the Horizon Premier 120RPH utilizes patented SCRIMP resin-infusion technology to build the hull with less weight, superior strength and impeccable finish. With the addition of DNV classification and MCA LY2 compliance, our goal with the 120 RPH is to not only guarantee our owners a completely reliable and safe vessel, greatly reducing their yacht insurance costs and increasing the yacht’s eventual resale value, but to go beyond their expectations for megayachts of this type and volume. We believe the new 120 will become one of the most popular models in the Horizon fleet.

One Horizon 62 is destined for a customer in Phuket, while 62 foot and 73 foot Horizons will be for customers based in Singapore. In addition, a fully customized 135-foot Horizon-Premier megayacht that is currently under construction at Horizon’s shipyard, has received permission to enter Singapore waters and will be permanently based here beginning in April 2009. The yacht is guaranteed to be one of the largest and most stunning luxury yachts plying these waters. Extending Sales & Service to San Diego Horizon’s U.S. West Coast Dealer, Emerald Pacific Yachts, has expanded its sales and service coverage to Southern California. Emerald has acquired the assets of Ocean Air Yachts of San Diego, California, and revamped the facility to be the newest sales and service spot for the full line of Horizon motoryachts. Emerald Pacific Yachts, which just celebrated its 10th anniversary on Lake Union, has grown to become one of the largest and most-respected yacht brokerages on the West Coast. The new San Diego office is located on Harbor Island at Sunroad Marina, and just one mile away from the San Diego airport and easily accessible to downtown. “Carnival Liberty” Makes Her Way Home - Horizon Onboard Service Team at Work All the Way
Vessel: Carnival Liberty Flag: Japan Passengers: 14 Departure port: Kaohsiung, Taiwan Destination port: Osaka, Japan
It’s a familiar mission for Rich Wang, who is senior technician with 20 years of experience at Horizon, to accompany owners as they drive their new yachts to their hometowns. This time, the destination was Osaka, Japan–a shake-down cruise of nearly 1,300 nautical miles. Each time a Horizon is delivered to new owners on its own bottom instead of being shipped, the company always sends a factory crew to assist the owners with the delivery. And Rich Wang, as before, is assisted by two technicians on this mission, in case there are any issues during the voyage. We call this trio our “Horizon Onboard Service Team.” Of course, they have another important duty: to use the voyage as an opportunity to experience actual boating situations and to understand how customers live aboard the boat. Their experience helps Horizon learn if there are any places where we can make further improvements or strengthening, findings that might not be obvious without the personal knowledge gained in a long voyage. Carnival Liber ty was built for Mr. Yoshihiro Hirayu. She measures 82’ 3” and is powered by t win Caterpillar 1,550 bhp diesels. With five staterooms and one utility room, she accommodates 12 guests. The delivery trip from Kaohsiung,

Taiwan, to Osaka, Japan, was estimated to take seven days. The passenger list totaled 14 persons, including Mr. Hirayu’s seven guests, four crew from Creation Company – Horizon’s Japanese dealer, and our Horizon Onboard Service Team. The route proceeded from Kaohsiung to Taiwan’s southern tip, Eluanbi (鵝鑾鼻), then by way of the Bashi Strait (巴士海峽), north to Taitung (台東) on the east coast of Taiwan and then east across the East China Sea to Osaka. On August 27, 2007, Rich Wang packed all the supplies for the Carnival Liberty and assisted her owners through Taiwan’s Customs procedures. Once cleared to leave, the yacht began her seven-day voyage at 9:00 a.m. It was calm sailing from Kaohsiung down to Hengchun (恆春), so everyone enjoyed the cruise, but when Carnival Liberty headed up through the Bashi Strait (巴士海峽) to enter the Pacific Ocean, the water became very rough with waves up to three meters. Soon, seasickness overtook most of the travelers except Rich Wang and the senior crew from Creation Company. Once out of the strait, beautiful weather stretched ahead for the next few days and the sea was very peaceful. Rich Wang and his fellows began their inspections of every system while the Japanese crew stood watch at the helm. The owner spent the time with his family learning to enjoy their new boat.
When they arrived at Miyako (宮古島) on August 29, the owners decided to dock for one day and give everyone a break to enjoy fishing, jet skiing and driving the dinghy. Everyone enjoyed their kind consideration. From the beginning of the voyage, Carnival Liberty had been moving non-stop, her four crewmen taking threehour watches so that the yacht could arrive at each port during daylight for fueling and provisioning. On September 1 they moored for a final overnight stop at Wakayama (和歌山) port. The next morning they began steaming the final three hours to Carnival Liberty’s home port, arriving safely at 9:00 a.m. For Rich Wang, it was another successful mission, thanks to the high quality that Horizon builds into each and every yacht.

Australian Dealer Squeezes Success from Sydney Show
Horizon 73 in front of Sydney Opera House
Despite its status as the major yacht venue in Australia, Sydney’s International Boat Show failed to provide sufficient marina space for the country’s booming boating industry. Celebrating its 40th anniversary, the show reported a record display of more than 330 exhibitors. Still, many of the major brands were unable to secure space or forced to reduce the number of boats on display. Horizon’s new dealer, Boats International from Sanctuary Cove, Gold Coast in Queensland, was also affected, securing last-minute space for just one vessel. However, the dealership was delighted at the attention Horizon garnered. The product continues to sell itself, with two sales for 73-footers and sale of another 65-footer pending. In other terms, the show was successful with near record attendance. Over 90,000 visitors enjoyed the best of Sydney’s weather. Most dealers reported good sales, especially on the larger cruisers. The show organizers are doing their best to increase the show’s temporary marina capacity for 2008. Boats International has already expressed interest in displaying five models in the 2008 show. “At next year’s Sanctuary Cove Boat Show and at the Sydney Show, we plan to create a much bigger impact featuring 65- (extended 62), 68-, 73-, 97-, and 98-foot Horizons. Next year is already shaping up to be a big year for us. With one boat delivery each month along with the shows, it is full on....and that’s the way we like it here at Boats International,” say Russell Wright and John Rapmund of Boats International.

Xanadu Dazzles During Her East Coast Tour
Horizon America hosted the 86-foot luxur y Horizon motor yacht Xanadu in Annapolis, Maryland, August 24-26. Delivered in Februar y 2007 Xanadu has spent the last eight months cruising the islands of the Bahamas and up the East Coast of the U.S on her way north for the summer. The owners, Lionel and Connie Yow, kindly agreed to show Xanadu as an example of Horizon quality at the Annapolis Yacht Club event and the Newport, Rhode Island, Boat Show. The open house for this world-class yacht was held at the Annapolis Yacht Club where Xanadu was prominently displayed. Don Gilman, president of Horizon America and Gilman Yachts, hosted the event for clients, customers and other VIPs. A fully catered reception was held aboard Xanadu on Friday, August 24th, and a brunch was served on Saturday the 25th. Xanadu received rave reviews from the 100 or so invited guests. Guests and VIP's remarked on the quality
of the yacht, its systems as well as the high-end interior fabrics, artwork and the overall decorating theme created by the owners and interior designer Dawn Moffit. Many guests said they also planned to attend the Horizon display at the upcoming United States Powerboat Show October 11-14 in Annapolis to view the new 62-foot Horizon on display. After leaving Annapolis Xanadu headed further north with her owners, cruising through the Chesapeake Bay, New York, Long Island Sound and Connecticut to attend the Newport International Boat Show in Rhode Island. This is the second year Horizon has exhibited at the Newport Show and although smaller than the Fort Lauderdale and Miami shows, it provides a perfect venue to spend quality time with customers to fully explain the benefits of Horizon yachts and how they can best "Define Their Own Horizon."
Representatives of the media also attended, including Editor Joe Evans and Publisher Mary Tli of PropTalk and SpinSheet magazines, representatives from Chesapeake Bay magazine, as well as What's Up Annapolis, and Mariner magazine. In addition, writers and photographers from Solutions at Home magazine were aboard to write a front-page article on Xanadu. Lastly, Tom Marquardt, the executive editor of The Capital newspaper, was aboard with the intent of featuring the yacht in a new publication debuting this fall. Many of the resulting stories are planned for boat show issues in early October to coincide with the two boat shows in Annapolis.

Bon Jour ! Provence I dreamt of escaping from a stressful and gray concrete jungle to one of the most romantic and beautiful place on earth – that every person should visit at least once in her lifetime. And now I am here – Provence. – Candy Kung, Horizon Group Marketing Center Provence, France is a popular holiday destination for Taiwan people. When I first heard about Provence, immediately an imagery of a clear blue sky with a sweet smell of lavender filling the air comes to mind. After approximately 24 hours of flight, our group of seven us excitedly arrived in Nice, a famous coastal city of the French Riviera late in the night. Affording only a few hours of rest, we were ready to explore this new world. We started from Monaco/Monte Carlo and spent three days traveling along the Southeast French Mediterranean coastline. Headed west towards Marseille, we visited three coastal cities, Nice, Cannes, Marseille and two major historical sites, Eze and Grasse. Countless expensive cars were parked on the street and a number of Mega Yachts filled up the busy marinas. The area was also filled with luxury shops and fancy restaurants which accented the overwhelmingly luxurious, glamorous and sophisticated life-style of this entire region. Fortunately, although less well- off, we enjoyed the scener y of these fabulous cities by taking a relaxing stroll along the famous French Riviera. Here we found “sweet spots” that allowed us to appreciate the breathtaking picturesque ports around the Mediterranean shore as we ventured into the narrow streets of quaint old towns.

Impossible to escape our professional enthusiasm as shipyard employees, our attention was quickly drawn to the yachts. We even managed to collect as much information (while on vacation) hoping to apply to our work when we go home. The peak of our excitement was when we spotted a Horizon in the Monaco Port. However, we were unable to go on board. If by any chance you see a group of Asians trying to take a peek inside your Horizon, it might be us. If you see us again, please extend us a warm welcome as we would really love to hear your experience with Horizon. For the rest of our trip, we traveled north all the way up to Paris and entered the major historic region in Provence. As many of you may know, France was once a part of the great Roman Empire; therefore, many significant towns such as Aixen-Provence, Arles, Nimes, Avignon, and Gordes are renowned for their ancient histories. Some Roman ruins and medieval towns located in the middle of Provence were well maintained. Wandering in these ancient streets was like taking a walk in time through the pathway of the past. We were astonished by the great Roman architecture, the antediluvian medieval village, and the awesome landscape of Provence’s countryside. No wonder Provence has been a place of inspiration for many prominent artists such as Van Gough and Picasso. As there are always two sides of a coin, our gratification was accompanied by regret. Unfortunately, we visit in the wrong season so we did not see the famous blue blossoming Lavender Field as anticipated. As a consolation, we bought some sachets to make up for our disappointment. The day before our departure, we took the TGV (train à grande vitesse – high speed train) from Avignon to Paris. Although our stay in Paris was short, the combination of magnificent architecture, rich culture and famous Seine River had been very stimulating, and unforgettable. Due to our busy work schedules, we scarcely did any research before the trip. That’s why we only had 6 days hotel reservation, a few travel books and our limited language skill. Yet, we were surprised that language does not seem to be a barrier nowadays when traveling in France. We always found friendly French people who were more than willing to communicate with us in English. In additions, renting a car with an installed navigation system bought us time when looking for direction - thanks to today’s advance technology. France is rich in culture and amazingly distinguished. One week is too short to discover all her beauty. I will definitely visit France again and find time to enjoy the slow relaxing pace of Provencal life.

Does Horizon Build Dragon Boats?
Of course not! Horizon Group builds luxury boats for wellknown owners far and wide. But just because we don’t build Dragon Boats, doesn’t mean we don’t participate in this traditional Chinese rowing competition during the annual Duanwu festival. The Annual Dragon Boat Race has become one of the most popular festivities in Taiwan. Falling on the fifth day of the fifth lunar month, Duanwu(端午), or Dragon Boat Festival as it is more commonly known in English, is held to commemorate the Chinese poet and respected patriot, Chu Yuan (屈原) who drowned himself in the Mi Lo River in 290 B.C. to protest corrupt rulers. The Dragon Boat Race is meant to mimic the historic scene when townspeople searched for this national hero in the water. Beating drums and splashing oars to scare away the fish, they threw rice dumplings (also called tsung tzu 粽子) into the sea to keep fish from nibbling Chu Yuan's body. Held by the city of Kaohsiung, this year about 88 Dragon Boat teams competed in Kaohsiung's Love River. During this fourday competition, the team from Atech Composites representing Horizon Group won third place. Paddling a Dragon Boat isn't an easy job, because the boat can only perform well if every crewman paddles in the same rhythm. We thank our team for their efforts and the good entertainment that they presented to us during the 2007 Dragon Boat Race in Kaohsiung.
Chinese customs during Duanwu festival: To hang bunches of Calamus and Moxa on front door: Believed to ward off evil and to prevent pestilence and to strengthen health.
To eat tsung-tzu: Tsung-tzu dumplings are stuffed with rice, meat, salted egg, mushrooms, and peanuts and wrapped in bamboo leaves.
To carry fragrant sachets: Fragrant sachets are made from colored silk material and filled with aromatic flowers and herbs and are believed to bring luck and repel evil.
A Dragon Boat is a traditional Chinese festival boat used in the rowing competition during the annual Duanwu festival. 14
