Some time ago, I was named Chairman of the Taiwan Yacht Industry Association (TYIA). I realize that this is not just a title to show on a business card; there are a lot of responsibilities that come with it. Having spent more than two decades in the yacht building industry dedicated WR FUHDWLQJ RXU RZQ +RUL]RQ EUDQG ZRUOGZLGH , DP UHJUHWIXO WR ÂżQG D PDMRULW\ RI the public still has a biased image when it comes to Taiwan-built yachts. Although Taiwan is currently ranked as the world’s fifth largest yacht building nation, the true image of “Made in Taiwanâ€? still has not been widely or correctly understood. Communicating this message will be one of the most important missions for me and the TYIA to accomplish. In addition, I hope to unify all the Taiwan yacht builders to form a resource center as a platform for sharing all the technical information, databases and knowledge collected from the domestic and international yacht building industry to enhance our abilities and our capacity. Taiwan has won approval for the quality of its craftsmanship over the past half century. During the last 10 years, Taiwan’s yacht builders have lifted their technology and their brands to higher levels and now compete successfully on the world stage. What I and the TYIA want to do now is let the public know of these accomplishments and make the “Made in Taiwanâ€? label a genuine mark of distinction. John Lu CEO of Horizon Group

The main stairwell separates this owner's section from the pilothouse forward. The grand, spiral staircase accesses all three decks and is made of a reddish wood called Afomosia. The landing on each deck is made of an onyx full of red swirls, which harmonizes with the Afomosia. The pilothouse features a large leather sofa set behind a table on a raised platform. In addition, it is equipped with state-of-the-art electronics, Furuno QDYLJDWLRQ DQG FRPPXQLFDWLRQ V\VWHPV DOO FRPSO\ ZLWK GMDSS (Global Maritime Distress and Safety Systems) requirements. The other owner's stateroom stretches the full beam in the forward section of the main deck. Again, the VWDLUZHOO GLYLGHV WKLV SULYDWH DUHD IURP WKH VKDUHG DUHD of the dining room and saloon. The master stateroom on the main deck is held in much lighter tones with maple burl and walnut-like anigre wood cabinetry and wall paneling, and swaths of beige fabric on some sections of the wall, which soften the room. There's also a meterhigh mirror as wide as the king-size bed below it.

The bathroom is forward and accessible from both sides of the bedroom. It features two toilets (his and hers) separated from each other by a glassenclosed shower and steam room with side jets. Miss Rose has three guest suites within the aft section of the lower deck. The tender garage behind the engine room has space for a 16-foot tender and a couple of PWCs. A telescopic crane handles the gear. Fiber reinforced plastic (FRP) is the most common material used to build boats. FRP, sometimes called GRP for JODVV ¿EHU UHLQIRUFHG SODVWLF LV D NLQG RI FRPSRVLWH PDWHULDO consisting of fibers, resin, and other ingredients, such as coring materials. The traditional way to produce FRP surfaces is called KDQG OD\ XS :RUNHUV SXW D ¿EHUJODVV RU .HYODU RU FDUERQ fiber) sheet onto a mold, pour resin on it and try to get the resin to soak into the fibers by pushing it with rollers, repeating the process sheet after sheet. Kaohsiung Maritime Expo To help Kaohsiung City to promote its abundant maritime resources, the Horizon Group became an enthusiastic backer of the 2008 Kaohsiung Maritime Expo and Yacht Show. On July 19, the Kaohsiung City Marine Bureau kicked off the show at the Kuang Jung Wharf in the southern port city. Kaohsiung, the second largest city in Taiwan, has unique maritime and port resources, and is KRPH WR PDQ\ PDULWLPH UHODWHG LQGXVWULHV +LJKO\ GHYHORSHG LQGXVWULHV LQFOXGH ILVKLQJ VKLSSLQJ DQG shipbuilding. John Lu, CEO of the Horizon Group, was named Chairman of the Taiwan Yacht Industry Association (TYIA) at the Association’s 10th Annual Meeting of the Membership in June 2008.
