about
Hello, my name is Daniel Zacharewicz and I’d like to welcome you to my graduation architecture portfolio. Since 2016, I have been studying my Bachelors of Architecture at the University of Canberra and have been working in the field of architecture and urban design at Place Logic since 2019. Since my time at University and Place Logic I have developed a diverse set of skills suited for the field of built environment. The Studio Program for the graduation semester of the Bachelor of Built Environment Architecture is focused on the role of Civic architecture and the value of transformative projects within the public domain of the city to enrich and extend the quality and experience of our urban realm. The studio seeks an urban intervention that responds to the cultural value of the Civic urban precinct as a socio-cultural asset of collective significance– both in the artefacts of its interchanging form and in the exchange of its gathered spaces.

Interwoven Grounds is home to an emerging arts scene, delivering cultural experiences that bring substantial audiences to the Civic Square precinct. A curatorial space that holds itself as deliberately neutral – affording artists, performers and the wider public an opportunity to imbue their own experiences, understandings and meanings of “civic-ness and community into the space. Some biophilic principles are woven into the architecture to provide subtle welcoming cues to invite participation and discourse. The arrival journey is curated through the built form embedded into the landscape, partially obscuring the central courtyard from Constitution Avenue and inviting surprise and delight as visitors weave their way through the galleries.

They help understand the qualitative, experiential considerations and opportunities of the project from a spatial perspective.

emegering pattern study
Right: Patterns are generated by the roads and form lines of surrounding buildings. Staying true to the rhythm of building form lines, there is an attempt to shift and add more connecting vertical lines demonstrated on diagram two. A generation of triangular geometries begin to develop.

Right: The development diagram demonstrates a basic 3D diagram displaying formal and circulation interactions on within the site, simple programmatic layout of commmunal spaces, restaurants, cafes and shops. There is an attempt to show the relationship of the ground and first floor, circulation, and the public space massing’s and how they all come together in the entire scheme.

Left: There is a sense of similarity between the center walk and arrival court. It acts as a communal space for people to gather. The site opens up from all three exposed sides. Stairs on the north and south and topography conjoining from the corner on the east.

Right A proposed slip-lane relieves congestion that Theatre Lane may produce and also provide drop off zones for guests. Introducing these ground level vegetation blocks provides refuge for guests that are communing among the arrival court. Not only are the blocks inviting, they additionally serve as a purpose by ďŹ ltering visitors towards the building itself.

Right: The physical model allows for a clear understanding on how the site conforms and nests within the surrounding topography. The lifted corner celebrates the overall form of the building as people pass by via Vernon Circle and Constitution Avenue, which is depicted on the model, it also demonstrates the movement towards the site itself.
