uncompromising Reliability Boating is a harsh and testing environment. Conditions can change suddenly. Engines need to start on demand and are often used for extended periods at wide-open throttle, in harsh saltwater and full UV sunlight. Then, over the off-season they sit in storage, in some cases without any use. Like all our engines the all new 75-115hp FourStrokes have been tested mercilessly to make them more reliable. The tougher the test, the tougher the engine. All our engines endure vicious log strikes, saltwater spray booths, high humidity chambers and hot and cold water temperatures. That’s just phase one of our brutal testing process. Then we run engines rigorously for thousands of hours to prove it can stand the test of time.
Before we even test them, we make sure our engines are built tough using our own patented, industry leading metals. Then we punish them with log tests, high humidity conditions, spray booth testing and non stop running under various loaded conditions. However, there is so much more built-in that ensures our all new 75-115hp FourStrokes stand the true test of time. Based on our proven and now famous 150hp FourStroke architecture they feature: - Floppy Vane Water System is reliable and long lasting, designed with extreme tolerance to heat, sand and whatever else is thrown at it - A Heavy Duty Oil Pump built to last years even in the harshest conditions
With the all new 75-115hp Mercury FourStrokes, we’ve gone even further to ensure these mid range FourStrokes are our most durable and reliable yet.
- Isolated Starter Motor featuring extra strength double rubber grommets, eliminating vibration and wear for long term durability
As always, we stand by them with an industry leading warranty, too.
- Forged Crankshaft, stronger than a conventional cast crankshaft
(See page 18 for warranty details).
- Top-Cowl Water Separating Baffle System that ensures minimal direct saltwater contact with powerhead
putting it to the test 8,500 hours at our indoor testing centre 5,000 hours of boat endurance testing 3,500 hours of system level testing 17,000 hours of total test time 10

Unbelievably Fuel efficient
Being able to outperform competitor’s products is a rush and a whole lot of fun, but in today’s world we have to also strive for increased range and more time on the water between fuel stops. Mercury’s all new 75-115hp FourStrokes give you the best of both. Less weight & more displacement gives Mercury’s all new 75-115hp FourStrokes abundant torque and immediate power. More displacement means the engine doesn’t have to rev as hard to produce the power, ensuring better fuel economy and a FourStroke that powers your boat without even raising a sweat. Now you can throttle back and enjoy longer time on the water with a Mercury.

Introducing World-class Hydrodynamic GearCase Design
Introducing command thrust – a category exclusive
No one does gearcases and propellers better than Mercury. The all-new standard gearcase for the 75-115hp FourStrokes features a much more advanced hydrodynamic profile than its predecessor, which means significantly less hydrodynamic drag as it moves through the water. Less drag means the engine doesn’t have to work as hard and transmits its power to the water more efficiently and effectively. Ideal for lighter performance oriented hulls made from aluminium or fiberglass, and small to medium weight deep-vees or runabouts. This sleek new gearcase produces 15% less hydrodynamic drag as it cuts through the water, allowing the engine to work more efficiently.
If developing the most exciting mid-range FourStroke in the world wasn’t good enough, we’re also offering a world first high thrust option, featuring the largest gearcase housing in this power range. If you need more muscle to move your boat, the 90 & 115hp Command Thrust FourStroke is the answer. Only Mercury offers a larger 4.9” diameter torpedo with 2.38:1 gear ratio options in 90 & 115hp FourStroke power class. The Command Thrust gearcase option is ideal for powering larger, heavier boats, pontoons and houseboats. No other competitor has this feature, making this a category exclusive for Mercury.

Bigger Footprint
new gearcase
An industry first, the Command Thrust takes the concept of using a larger gearcase on a smaller base powerhead to the 90-115hp class.
The larger “CT” gearcase creates a bigger footprint in the water, which provides more leverage to control your boat. The larger torpedo, combined with a bigger-diameter prop, can lift a heavy boat onto plane more easily and hold it there at lower speeds without impacting top speed. The Mercury Enertia® propeller is the perfect complement to the 75 - 115hp FourStroke Command Thrust gearcases.

Counter-Rotation Command Thrust is also available as a 90 & 115hp Counter Rotation model for twin-engine applications.

Unbelievably Smooth and Quiet Smooth and quiet operation is key to an enhanced boating experience. With Mercury’s all new 75-115hp FourStrokes, everything possible has been done to reduce engine noise, vibration and harshness, to deliver the most pleasant driving experience of any outboard in their class.
New Quiet Trim Pump System A quiet powerhead and pleasant driving experience is wasted if the trim pump whines loudly when you hit the button. Our new power trim pump has been designed to optimise fluid movement in virtual silence. The result is a trim pump that delivers a pleasant driving experience all day long.
refined Clutch System The clutch system incorporates a refined dog clutch design, reducing shock upon shifting into gear, enhancing smoothness of operation for your driving comfort.
Unique Focused Mount System With Mercury’s unique mount system, upper mounts are at a much wider 30-degree angle from the engine’s centre of gravity. Angling our mounts reduces vibration transmitted to the boat significantly at all points in the power band, but especially at transient points from a fast idle to where the boat is coming on to the plane.
14
Sound absorbent design
Top mounted throttle body
A tightly sealed cowl seal made from sound attenuating composites does a lot more than keep corrosive saltwater out. It also keeps engine noise in. Lightweight thermo-bonded SMC top cowl uses commercial-grade bonded composites to help produce a quiet, compact, stylish and highly functional 75-115hp FourStroke platform. Inside, stabilizers ensure a watertight seal to protect the powerhead from the elements, while also making sure engine noise stays where it belongs – inside the cowling and away from the boat.
Located at the top of the scroll intake manifold, unlike competitive intake systems, the intake noise is fine tuned to a much more pleasing tone, rather than a high pitched annoying drone which also fatigues the operator after long runs.
Closed cell acoustic lining in driveshaft housing chaps
Tuned idle exhaust relief system The all new 75-115hp FourStrokes feature a special idle exhaust system, a significant feature of the power range’s world-class engine management technology. Using a low pass acoustic filter it dramatically reduces high frequency exhaust noise at idle speeds. Quieter operation at low speeds makes it easier to talk around the boat, or during a long day of trolling.
Closed cell acoustic foam is especially effective at blocking engine exhaust noise and is an important feature of Mercury’s world-class sound reduction technology, blocking out the majority of exhaust noise throughout the power range. The result is minimal low level, low frequency engine noise, for a more pleasing overall tone, significantly reducing the chance of operator fatigue over time.
15
Unlike any other mid-range FourStroke the world has ever known. 16
17
Unbeatable Warranty Protection
Other manufacturers talk about their corrosion resistant outboards, but Mercury is the only manufacturer who backs it up with an exclusive 3-year limited corrosion failure warranty. And that’s only the beginning. We back it up with a tried and tested, class leading corrosion resistant protection strategy.
BUILT LIKE NO OTHER FOURSTROKE The all new 75-115hp Mercury FourStrokes are backed by an unbeatable warranty. All models receive a fully transferable, non-declining factory warranty that goes deeper than the rest. A comprehensive warranty that’s supported by the strength and service expertise of one of the biggest dealer networks in the country. Simply have your engine serviced at an Authorised Service Centre at the recommended routine servicing/maintenance requirements set by Mercury Marine, and you’re covered by an additional 2-year factory backed warranty on top of the first 3 years. That’s a full 5 years of warranty coverage.
A356 Aluminium-Silicon alloy Copper is one of the most corrosive elements found in aluminium alloys. The all new 75-115hp FourStrokes feature a cylinder head casting using a special aluminium-silicon alloy. With less than 0.15% copper, it has the lowest copper content in the industry, by a long way. Competitor alloys have a copper content typically 13 to 27 times more than that of Mercury’s A356, making us a leader in all marine environments.
XK 360 The all new 75-115hp FourStroke block, bedplate drive shaft housing and gearcase are die cast using Mercury’s XK 360, proven proprietary formula. Developed by our founder Carl Kiekhaefer, it remains one of the most corrosion resistant alloys in the world. The secret is the extremely low copper content alloy that’s less than .2% copper. Competitor castings have typically, 1000% - 2000% more copper content.
18
Mercury Fusion Paint Process
Sacrificial Anodes
Salt water is a marine engine’s worst nightmare. Mercury’s extensive cleaning and painting process ensures long-term protection of aluminium castings and is a vital part of the all new 75-115hp FourStrokes’ overall corrosion resistance strategy. Every working part is protected by a threestage, multi-level cleaning and paint process.
Sacrificial anodes are the first line of defence against the harmful effects of saltwater. Anodes are strategically placed and are in direct contact with the base metal, engineered to ‘sacrifice’ themselves when immersed in saltwater. By allowing the saltwater to attack the anodes at a controlled rate, the outboard is spared. Replacing anodes after 50% attrition will ensure ongoing protection.
Irridite: Irridites are a highly resistant barrier against salt-water corrosion. The powerhead, driveshaft housing and gearcase are protected by this multi-step process where the aluminium components are cleaned and rinsed twice in alkaline solution before applying the protective Irridite layer to metal surfaces.
ElectroDeposition Priming (EDP): The five-step process starts with a deionizing water rinse. The components are then immersed in EDP application. The components are rinsed again, before a final deionizing rinse. The paint is then baked and cured before the top, providing unform coverage inside and out, including cooling passageways.
Top-Coat Finish: Components are then finished with Mercury’s all new powder paint top coat. Paint is sprayed on and thermo-cured with an even thicker, plasticized finish for better long-term adhesion. The process significantly reduces fade from the sun, helps the engine retain a high-gloss finish and protects against fuel, oil and sunscreen stains.

Water Tight Cowl Everyone who runs a boat in saltwater knows that salt gets into everything on the boat, the engine, and everything in between. Even air is tinged with salt that can coat a component with repeated exposure. That’s why our new range features a top cowl with special baffled inner liners, to redirect the water entering through the rear intakes, so that it flows down the inside of the baffles and exits through a pair of drain holes in the rear side, back into the environment, significantly reducing contact with the powerheads. Yet another, critical step in our corrosion protection strategy.
Sealed Electrical Connection Poor quality connections can lead to water intrusion, which can cause electrical failures and compromise reliability. The all new 75-115hp FourStrokes’ connectors are world-class, and set the standard for waterproof electrical connections. All electrical connectors are completely waterproof and must pass even more stringent testing than conventional automotive grade connectors. Tests include: saltwater immersion combined with thermal cycling and direct salt spray testing to ensure they are leak free. They are designed and validated to maintain leak-proof integrity for the life of the engine and ensure rock-solid reliable operation.
