CBA football reaches state Class A final by Phil Blackwell

A long 17 years have passed since the Christian Brothers Academy football team claimed its lone state championship. Thanks to a stirring fourthquarter comeback on a snowy Friday evening, the Brothers have a chance to add another. CBA’s 20-18 victory over Jamestown in the state Class

A semifinal at Cicero-North Syracuse’s Bragman Stadium included two late touchdowns as the Brothers overcame a trio of turnovers to make the plays it needed down the stretch. Going into the game, CBA understood that it had to contain Jamestown’s star running back, Jaylen Butera, who had rushed for more than 2,100 yards and scored 42 touch-

downs this fall. But the Brothers’ defense had excelled throughout its post-season run, especially in the 42-0 regional final win over Union-Endicott where it recorded eight interceptions. The two teams battled through a scoreless first quarter as they both got used to the wintry conditions. Early in the second pe-

riod, CBA went in front on Dan Anderson’s four-yard TD run set up by his own 38-yard scramble. Anderson ran in for two points, but the 8-0 margin didn’t last long. Butera broke loose on a 65yard scoring dash just 15 seconds after Anderson converted. Then, on the Red Raiders’ next possession, Butera grabbed a CBA l Page 2

Town of DeWitt discusses deer management program By Jason Klaiber Staff Writer

The DeWitt Town Board took a series of actions at its Nov. 22 meeting in order to insert its 2022 deer management program. Now entering its fifth consecutive year, the municipality’s culling program is part of a combined effort with the City of Syracuse, the Town of Manlius and the Village of Fayetteville to reduce and control the deer population in the area safely and productively through the winter. As of the Nov. 22 meeting, 320 deer have been removed within the town’s boundaries since the beginning of the program. As a result, 9,523 pounds of venison have been donated to local food banks and food pantries. Over the last two years, the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) has reported that more than 15,500 meals have been provided to the greater community through DeWitt’s deer management program alone.

Nick Quilty-Koval presents to the DeWitt Town Board about deer management on Nov. 22. “We continue to hope the numbers increase and that we can make the program more and more effective,” said Nick Quilty-Koval of the town’s planning and zoning department during a presentation to the board on Nov. 22. Asked if the town is culling the maximum number of deer possible and, if not, whether additional funds for more sharpshooters would lead to a greater yield, Quilty-Koval

said the bigger issues lie in finding allowable locations for sharpshooting and figuring out the most efficient stretch of time to cull deer. He said he had not been made aware of the exact overall deer population figures and how steadily or significantly they have increased over the years. According to the “White-Tailed Deer Deer l Page 2

Ten homes will complete Pauli Drive development By David Tyler

After more than 20 years plans have been submitted for the completion of the development on Pauli Drive. Last week, two development teams were in front of the planning board with plans for the completion of the Hunters Ridge subdivision. The plans were initially approved by the planning board in 1999 and the first two stages of the develop-

ment were completed. This final phase includes 10 homes and will connect the two sections of Pauli Drive that are currently separated by an undeveloped wooded area. Although a public hearing isn’t required because the project received initial approval in 1999, the board voted to hold a hearing on the project on Dec. 13 to ensure neighbors are aware of long-dormant project.

“The last thing in the world you want is your happy neighbors right now becoming unhappy neighbors,” planning board member Arnie Poltenson told the developers. “It’s part of what town government is supposed to be about.” “Since this was years ago, I tend to agree that there should be a public hearing,” said Rich Rossetti. “I think you have an obligation to inform the neighbors because this is so old.”

construction manager spoke to the Fayetteville Village Board last week about the NYStretch Energy Code. On behalf of the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA), Josh Stack presented details relating to the voluntary but “readily adoptable” code said to increase energy efficiency and lower greenhouse gas emissions. The stretch code acts as an overlay that makes “more stringent” revisions to certain provisions of the state’s current minimum energy code standard, which was adopted in the spring of 2020. A Cazenovia-based residential builder who grew up on construction sites alongside his father, Stack said the stretch code could potentially have additional associated costs compared to the minimum code depending on how municipalities work with it, but he said its composition is based on industry-best practices. “There’s really nothing in there that is earth-shatteringly different, new or unfamiliar to builders,” Stack said at the village board’s Nov. 22 meeting. “It really comes down to what compliance path you pick and what systems and materials and strategies you choose.” However, one of the biggest cost increases under the stretch code, the residential provision for the integration of wholehouse mechanical ventilation, has been made optional by NYSERDA, Stack said. Created with the help of stakeholders, code experts and architects, the stretch code pertains only to new and existing building goals, like an addition being constructed but not the main, already-built house attached. The Village of Tully and the City of Canandaigua are among the jurisdictions that have adopted the stretch code.

Fayetteville resident honored at Marine Corps ball By Jason Klaiber Staff Writer

Ever since he entered the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War, Fayetteville resident AJ Kalil has credited his experience in the service branch with framing the remainder of his life. “Whenever I run into a hard time, I never, ever forget what I learned: that failure is not an option,” said the 89-year-old, who just last month was honored as the oldest veteran in attendance at the 246th Marine Corps Birthday Ball held in Syracuse. Kalil enlisted soon after North Korea invaded South Korea in 1950 while only a junior in high school. After receiving his infantry training in Southern California, he was set to replace casualties suffered in the Chosin Reservoir, but President Harry Truman put an almar into effect preventing anyone under 18 from going into a combat theater, Kalil said. Instead, the young Marine walked a Pearl Harbor guard post for a brief time before being restationed in the Mojave Desert to drive a jeep for a civilian scientist experimenting with field artillery. Once he reached the age of 20, Kalil

15-yard TD pass from Trey Drake. The Brothers drove inside Jamestown’s 10 late in the half, only to have Sincere Green intercept Anderson on fourth down near the goal line, so CBA trailed 12-8 at the break. Most of the third period was quiet until the Red Raiders defense made an even bigger play, Ben Anderson picking off Rae (who had returned to the lineup after a midgame injury) and bringing it back 40 yards for a TD. Now down 18-8, the Brothers made up most of the ground when Anderson netted his second TD on a nine-yard run with 8:02 left, though the conversion was missed. Quickly getting the ball back, CBA was moving to a go-ahead score when another Rae pass was deflected and intercepted by Sean Paige with five minutes to play. Having not surrendered any points in the second half despite Butera getting 200 rushing yards on 26 carries, the Brothers’

was released from active duty to an inactive status, and the G.I. Bill allowed him to both attend Syracuse University and work toward supporting a family. He remained on call until 1959, at which point he was given an honorable discharge. Commemorating the fighting force’s inception in 1775, the birthday ball hosted by the Marines of Syracuse on Nov. 13 saw as 240 Marines, including Kalil, gathered inside the SKY Armory on South Clinton Street. The Saturday evening celebration included a transitional cake ceremony, which involves the symbolic transfer of tradition and honor from the oldest Marine present to the youngest via the handover of a piece of cake. In reference to the custom, Kalil cut a slice with a saber and spoke no words as he shared it with Lance Cpl. Dylan Blair, 19, who then took his own bite with a clean fork. Blair, the fellow Marines who wheeled in the cake cart, and most of the other uniformed attendees were in their dress blues, while Kalil donned his red blazer throughout the night. “For me, it was emotional,” Kalil said.

defense forced a punt and, with 2:16 left, gave CBA one more chance. From his own 35, Rae moved the Brothers inside the Jamestown 20, aided by a defensive holding penalty on fourth down when it appeared that the Red Raiders had made a decisive stop. Given another chance, CBA didn’t waste it. With 1:01 to play, Rae, from the Jamestown 19, threw a perfect strike to Jason Brunson in the back right corner of the end zone. When the Red Raiders could not answer, CBA had its place in the state final, to be played Friday in the Carrier Dome against Section I’s Somers, who beat Rye 14-7 in the other state semifinal. Having knocked off the top three seeds on the way to the Section III championship, the Brothers maintained its post-season momentum against Union-Endicott in the Nov. 19 regional final. And it was CBA’s defense taking a featured role, forcing the Tigers into five firsthalf turnovers, which led to 28 unanswered points. Having jumped on Indian River with

26 straight first-half points in the sectional final a week earlier, the Brothers topped it, building another big margin on the Tigers by picking off U-E quarterback Max Sementelli five times in those first two quarters. U-E’s first turnover led to CBA getting in front late in the opening period, the Brothers driving to the three-yard line before Anderson found the end zone. Minutes later, the Brothers were on the move again, getting to the Tigers’ five where, on the first play of the second quarter, Anderson earned his second touchdown, a missed extra point keeping it at 13-0. Within a five-minute span, the margin doubled. Tristan Kofronta’s interception

(he had two in the first half) led to another TD when Rae found Sayir Torrence in the end zone, followed by a successful twopoint conversion. Amari Pitts got in front of another Tigers pass for the Brothers’ third interception of the half, returning it to the U-E 13 and leading to Anderson’s third TD on a three-yard run. Any U-E comeback hopes got dashed when CBA got in front of two other Sementelli passes, one of them just before halftime as the 28-0 margin held. Jamier Handford tacked on his own three-yard TD run midway through the third quarter, and Rae scored on a oneyard sneak early in the final period.

deer, as the website states, has given rise to concerns regarding Lyme disease as well as damage to ornamental and native plants and shrubbery. During the Monday meeting, the town board adopted an updated deer management plan revised in November. The State Environmental Quality Review Act (SEQR) determination for the implementation of the plan and a permit application with the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) were also authorized.

The town is approximately 40 square miles in size, and its paved streets, dense wooded areas, numerous parks, various green spaces, food resources and bedding areas contribute to an “ideal habitat” for white-tailed deer, a Department of Agriculture project summary report mentions. Manlius police partner with Tops to deliver meals By Jason Klaiber Staff Writer

Showing that a charitable gesture on the local level can go a long way, members of the Manlius Police Department and their families continued a long-held tradition last week by delivering Thanksgiving dinners to area food banks. Overall 130 meals were purchased by the department’s Police Benevolent Association and split between Fayetteville-Manlius and Minoa distribution centers before feeding a corresponding amount of families in those villages. “For us, it’s just a way to give back to the community

and help those that are in need during the holiday season,” said Officer Dan Tyrel, the president of the department’s union. “It’s about trying to help as many families as we can.” All purchased in full from the Tops Friendly Market on West Seneca Street in Manlius, about half of the packaged meals included turkeys, with the other half containing hams. Each delivery also consisted of a bag of potatoes, gravy, cranberry sauce, stuffing, canned vegetables, and ingredients for pies. Accompanied by their family members, the group of police officers pulled up to the back of the store the afternoon

Winter driving

Whether it comes early or late, winter is an inevitable factor in Central New York as we saw just before Thanksgiving. Every year winter is hard to predict, with more erratic weather patterns that change daily. What the weeks and months to come until spring is here again will bring is anyone’s guess. There are memes and old clichés that say in Central New York we can experience all four seasons in the matter of a single day, and there are times when that is not so far off the mark. But no matter what the weather brings, snow is likely to be a factor one way or the other, heavy or light, throughout the coming months. This affects our daily activities from the morning and evening commute to going to the store for groceries. And it is a factor we all have to take into consideration for our own safety and the safety of others when we are out on the road, whether it is commuting 20 plus miles a day or 10 minutes down the road. AAA recommends taking some common sense measures to ensure safety for yourself and others on the road. Do not tailgate. Normal following distances of three to four seconds on dry pavement should be extended to a minimum of five to six seconds when driving on slippery surfaces. The extra time will provide additional braking room should a sudden stop become necessary. Never use cruise control on slippery roads. If your vehicle hydroplanes or skids, you will lose the ability to regain some traction simply by lifting off the accelerator. It will be harder to recover from the loss of traction if cruise control is active. Slow down and adjust your speed to the road conditions. Leave yourself ample room to stop. Accelerate, turn and brake as gradually and smoothly as you can. Don’t slam on the brakes. If your car begins to skid, continue to steer in the direction you want the car to go. Slamming on the brakes will only make your vehicle harder to control. Use extreme caution on bridges and overpasses. Black ice typically forms first in shaded areas of the roadway and on bridges and overpasses that freeze first and melt last. Although the road leading up to a bridge may be fine, the bridge itself could be a sheet of ice. React quickly. Watch the traffic ahead and slow down immediately at the sight of brake lights, skidding cars or emergency flashers. AAA also recommends taking the time to be mindful of the condition of your vehicle. Cold weather can affect batteries, leading to a drain of power. It is also vital to make sure the ignition and heating systems are working correctly. Properly clearing snow from the vehicle before driving and having adequate wiper fluid to keep the windshield clear are also highly recommended. Even considerations such as clothing should be taken into consideration. AAA recommends wearing comfortable clothing. While heavy coats and gloves are good when outside, once a vehicle heats up, these items may be too restrictive and inhibit movement. Having a free range of motion becomes even more important when needing to drive safely in bad weather according to AAA. Sunglasses are also recommended to help reduce glare that can be intense when combined with snow. To lean more visit AAA.com.

Celebrating the good things in life Ramblings from the empty nest

Ann Ferro The lead story in Archaeology Magazine today was about finding a 6-000year-old piece of intricately carved wood. It was found in a peat bog - you know, the kind of place where scientists have found whole mummified bodies - and I mean the kind with skin, hair, eyes, etc. Really lifelike, if somewhat thinner and more tanned than they were before they were deposited in said bog. A bog is a feature of the earth, the ones in question are composed of the decomposition of plants, mostly mosses that are so acidic that they preserve items that have found their way into the mire. I’m wondering if there isn’t another kind of bog, composed of the modern digital media that enfolds your mind in a kind of acidic state, preserving a particular perception. I woke up this morning, a morning on which I should be excited about the preparations for Thanksgiving, worrying about all of the awful news that I’ve seen on TV or consumed through the internet. Should I be worried about the exceptionally bad experiences that we

see, perpetrated by the worst examples of humanity? Why sure. Of course. I should feel compassion for the victims, outrage at dastardly behavior, determination to do something about … Now, wait. What the hell can I do about a tennis star in China? Or the rampage of a seemingly deranged man who plowed his car into innocent men, women and children at a parade, or the outrageous behavior of gangs who broke into highend department stores in San Francisco or the trolls who hurl epithets at those who believe differently than they …on and on and on. And as for the economy, with a bunch of talking heads trying to lay the blame for the unfolding off the economic cycle - heck, I’m doing my best to shop locally, to add to several bottom lines during the Christmas season. There are awful things that happen. Awful things have always happened. Again, archaeology comes to the fore. My gosh, today I read about an archaeological discovery of the skeletons of 80 young men in a Greek cemetery from the 5th century BC where they were all dispatched at the same time. The discovery showed that all were shackled with their hands in chains raised above their h

heads. I can no more do anything about whatever happened all those years ago than I can do about all of the awfulness that I am privy to today. When I can do something, I will, but now I will try to festoon my days with some lightness and joy. So, I am swearing off the news programs and Facebook notifications that even hint at anything untoward and I will try to capture something of a sense of belonging in a world that I know is not the same as that conflicted in the news. And, yes, I used the word conflicted on purpose. I will celebrate that a gentleman got up to give me his seat at my grandson’s basketball game; that Anna at Nojaims wished me a Happy Thanksgiving; that a dear friend has put our snow blower in the back yard, just in time; that my grandson texted me to tell me that he loves me … Oh, my heart! I celebrate the unexpected meal given to me by Kathy K. when I was particularly low, and another luscious meal left on my doorstep by a friend to say thank you. I am so glad that old, special friends have moved back to where they began and that I found peach nectar for a recipe that I

planned on making for Thanksgiving … I will remember the outrageous generosity of so many people with whom I have worked over the years, none of whom sought anything beyond doing good. This year I will try to make the season special for people with little surprises … because they are the “doers” rather than “recipients” … little moments of amazement for them and an anonymous warm feeling for myself - little things that have a much bigger meaning for me than a missing tennis star in Bejing. The overwhelming awfulness, the cascade of woe that digital media can bring, is the modern version of a bog that can calcify sadness, create a dismayed soul. So, I say, Bah, Humbug to them all. I choose to turn my face to the sun or whatever passes for the sun in Central New York. Now, to bake a pie and get the turkey ready. I hope your Thanksgiving was joyful.

Ann Ferro is a mother, a grandmother and a retired social studies teacher. While still figuring out what she wants to be when she grows up, she lives in Marcellus with lots of books, a spouse and a large orange cat.

Apology does not address problem

To the editor: Cazenovia Town Supervisor William Zupan’s apology [purposefully] does not address what happened at the verbally violent town meeting on Nov. 8, 2021. It is clearly intended to please or silence vs. to express actual regret/ commitment to healing. When he wrote that apology, did he remember that constituents cried, voiced feeling: unsafe, attacked, physical reactions including panic attacks, hearts racing, sweating and hands shaking during and after his outburst? Zupan’s outburst occurred, generally, because of “how things have always been done.” Blind commitment to historical practice is why we still celebrate Columbus Day on indigenous lands while my children learn Columbus is a hero in school. It is why institutionalized corruption continues to occur in this community, although local Caz constituent leaders, including students, continue to exhaust themselves in the fight against inequities and exclusion. Zupan’s apology: https://eaglenewsonline. com/new/government/2021/11/11/cazenoviatown-supervisor-addresses-communi tyissues-apology/ : To the editor, As the Supervisor of the Town of Cazenovia, I am responsible for the overall management and resources of the Town. (immediately refers to his political power, suggesting that the management of the Town lies within HIS hands. When someone reiterates their power prior to an apology, it suggests intimidation; pay attention to me, I’m apologizing.) I also need to listen to the Town’s constituents about their issues, ideas, and concerns and to do so in a professional way... (“professional” meaning?...The attorney and a few of the council members immediately supported Zupan’s illegal behavior by not stopping him or questioning him immediately, but rather instantly affirmed Zupan’s motion to close public comment and force silence on constituents under threat of arrest and calling the police. Only after constituents spoke up in support of the attacked citizen did the attorney weakly step in, treating Zupan like an angry child throwing a fit.) ...working with the Town Board to take

any necessary actions. (What necessary actions? The Town requested action steps from constituents. Shouldn’t it be the other way around?) At the last Town Board meeting, I did not do that with some of the attendees. (The word “last” suggests that this behavior has occurred once, which I doubt. Some council members laughed with Zupan as he freely admitted proneness to anger, meanwhile constituents were beginning to cry. In his apology, the qualifier “some’’ suggests not all constituents were negatively affected--not true, we all voiced our discomfort.) And for that, I am very sorry. It will not happen again. (Grammatically, “that” is a demonstrative requiring further explanation: “that abuse of power”, “that unacceptable behavior”, “that aggressive threat of arrest”). How do we ensure the safety of a public arena when Zupan self-admits to frequent anger outbursts but continues to be supported by his colleagues?) ~end of his apology~ This unacceptable apology has no rhetorical substance or value. Immediate proactive change, informed rhetoric, and transparency will show this town’s constituents the apology we deserve, need and require. Rachelann Lopp Copland Cazenovia

Manlius winners will serve town well

To the editor: Now that all the absentee ballots have been counted congratulations to Democratic candidates John Deer, Katelyn Kriesel, Sara Bollinger and William Nicholson who won positions on the town of Manlius board in the recent election. These candidates will ensure that the town of Manlius continues to move forward as a 21st Century community. A comprehensive community plan currently underway to update the 10-year-old community plan will continue under their leadership. Infrastructure for charging stations for the next generation of electric vehicles will be encouraged along with the development of renewable energy sources. The town of Manlius will do its part to deal with the challenge of changing weather systems due to an increase in greenhouse gases. This summer we saw a 2,500% increase in the number of mosquitoes in Onondaga County compared to the same time period from last year due to warmer weather and more rain - perfect breeding conditions for mosquitoes. Another impact due to increased rain activity was an increase in flooding events. Transparency in municipal decision making with access to town board meetings via zoom is also another firmly held conviction of the newly elected officials. This slate of newly elected candidates will serve the town of Manlius well in the coming years. Peter Wirth Fayetteville

Years Ago in History By Cindy Bell Tobey

The water works pumps was put to work again on Thursday last, and has been kept running ever since. There is also an inflow from the natural sources about sufficient to supply the wants of the village, so that the water in the reservoir has risen quite steadily. It is now two feet over the mouth of the main, which gives a reserve of about one million gallons, for fire purposes. The water is 10 feet deep at the western embankment, and so far, not a trace of a leak can be discovered.

The next number of the school entertainment course will be given one week from tomorrow evening. The attraction is Honorable Richard Yates, former governor of Illinois. It is unusual for a town the size of Cazenovia to be able to secure such a speaker as Mr. Yates. Lectures are as a rule unpopular. The management, realizing this, endeavored to get a man of national reputation, one who has made for himself a name as an orator in the great councils of our nation. He has the hearty endorsement of the leading newspapers of the Middle West. His topic will probably be “The Grand Army of the Republic.” A cordial invitation is extended to the veterans of the Civil War.

The library of the late George W. Thompson of Cazenovia was sold Monday at the American Art-Anderson Galleries, 30 East 57th Street, New York, for $11,590.50. A

collection of first editions of Sir Walter Scott’s works as well as books about him, in 92 volumes, went to Duttons, Inc., for $520, the highest bid in the sale. Duttons also purchased for $370 the Bombay edition of Rudyard Kipling’s works. Gabriel Wells paid $280 for the autographed edition of Bret Harte’s writing and $230 for a special edition, one of 300 sets of “The Human Comedy,” by Balzac. Fifty volumes of “Bohn and Bell’s Classics” were bought by R.R. Young for $290. One of the 150 copies of “Miniatures Persances,” by Georges Marteau and Henry Vever, went to W.R. Wood for $280.

A panel of five judges chosen by the Cazenovia Garden Club has agreed to officiate in selecting the winners of the club’s Yuletide Home Outdoor Decorating Contest. All of those who were requested to act as judges are well known and well qualified in their decorating, landscaping, and artistic achievements. They are Merrill Bailey, art instructor at the Cazenovia Central School and an accomplished artist; Miss Hope Bailey, Oran Nurseries; Miss Prudence Burg, head of the art department at Cazenovia Junior College; Paul Everts, Cazenovia Greenhouses; and Roy Christenson, of Fenner, an outstanding art student. While the cash prizes offer a real incentive to those entering the contest it is the club’s objective to have the citizens of Cazenovia and vicinity give the community an outstanding Christmas appearance at the Yuletide season.

Cazenovia High School graduate

Jeffrey William DeBlois transitioned to a new life with his Lord on Nov. 13, 2021, in Lakewood, CO. He was predeceased by his mother Rosalyn Gourlay DeBlois and father Donald Holman DeBlois, and is survived by his brother Peter DeJeffrey W. DeBlois Blois, sister Ellyn Hass, brother-in-law Gary Hass, nieces and nephews Geneviève DeBlois, Danielle Mercado, Adrienne Durant, Jacob Hass, Liesl Coope, and Alexander Hass. Jeff was a standout, record-holding athlete in football and track and field at Cazenovia High School (1970); was an avid skier and scuba diver; and earned a bachelor’s degree in physical education at SUNY Brockport. He had a passion for sailing and was the best first mate for his dad who taught him sound nautical practices, instilled the virtue of a “yar” ship-shape vessel, and ensured he was certified in U.S. Coast Guard water safety regulations. Jeff loved the mountains of Colorado, whether skiing demanding double diamond trails or motorcycling over high passes. He relished sailing on Wellfleet Bay, Cape Cod, and watching the Gulf waters off South Padre Island in Texas. When he moved to Colorado in 1978, his mantra became a line from John Denver’s “Rocky Mountain High:” “He was born in the summer of his 27th year, coming home to a place he’d never been before.” Jeff is now in the true home and final berth with his maker, toward which he’d been sailing, skiing, and biking all his years. F-M boys, girls second at Federation meet by Phil Blackwell

After a long absence, the Fayetteville-Manlius cross country teams nearly made a triumphant return to the New York State Federation championships. In the Nov. 20 revival of the Federation meet at Bowdoin Park in Wappingers Falls, each of the Hornets’ sides would record second-place finishes. In the championship meet, Izzie Sullivan and Hannah Kaercher were both within the individual top five on the girls side. F-M’s girls found itself in a rematch with Saratoga Springs seven days after the Blue Streaks prevailed in the Nov. 13 NYSPHSAA meet at Chenango Valley. Earning 54 points, the Hor-

nets topped 29 other teams, yet still trailed Saratoga, who with 28 points had five of the top eight team runners overall. Sullivan, looking for her third win in as many weeks, covered the Bowdoin Park course in 17 minutes, 59.4 seconds, which put her in second as Cornwall’s Karrie Baloga won in 17:54.7. Also running well, Kaercher made her way to fifth place in 18;17.4, the Hornets ‘ only other top-15 finish. Debbie Lucchetti was 13th among team runners (18th overall) in 19:05.6. Isabella Adrian would go 19:20.9, just ahead of Amelia Amack (19:25.5) as Maria Khalifeh posted 19:49.5 and Camille Ryan finished in 20:11.7. F-M’s boys team didn’t have

to face NYSPHSAA Class A state champion Corning at the Federation meet. Of the 30 teams on hand, the Hornets’ 148 points topped everyone except Section II’s Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake, who won with 101 points. To lead these Hornets, Anthony Otis finished 15th in the team standings, and 24th overall, in a clocking of 16:37.5. Nolan McGinn, in 16:39.8, was two spots behind Otis in the team portion, with Jackson Matthews (17:07.6) also finishing inside the individual top 50. Daniel Patrick finished in 17:22 flat, ahead of Will Seamans (17:36.7). Cooper Dereszynski posted 18:09.1 as Mason Weires posted 18:30.2.

Meals

A member of the department for 16 years now, Tyrel said the annual delivery of Thanksgiving meals has been coordinated between the union and the Tops market since before he began his tenure at the station. He said the partnership plays the same role as the department’s “Shop With a Cop” events at the Fayetteville Target store: to make this time of year more complete and enjoyable for the people they serve.

to deliver these meals to families in need on Thanksgiving,” said Katie Kowalski, the assistant store manager at the Manlius supermarket. “Especially with the times that we’re in right now and all the craziness with COVID and everything else going on with the way the world is working, I think it’s definitely a great thing.”
