By the age of 35 hair loss is common in nearly two thirds of men and by 50, 85% of men will have lost a significant amount of their hair.

Bald spots are typically caused by androgenic alopecia, which is both the most common hair loss type for men and the typical cause of thinning and balding crowns, as well as receding hairlines

It’s often a bone of contention amongst those who suffer from hair loss Many men experiencing a receding hairline see it as the first sign of ageing the first indication of not being so invincible after all

We talked to Iman Hosseini at Pitshanger Lane’s Gents of Ealing about thinning hair and any tricks on how they would best disguise it:

“One of the mistakes many men make is to try and grow their hair longer to cover a thinning spot However this often backfires as you can see through it I would always recommend a shorter length and regular cuts to keep it neat I would particularly keep the sides shorter as it better disguises the lack of density on the top of your head

I would recommend a side parting as you can style it over the top of the thinning area to disguise it It’s also less noticeable because you expect to see a certain amount of scalp with a side parting

I would use American Crew’s Fortifying Shampoo and then choose your styling products carefully If you use greasy hair products, the hair will clump together which exposes more of the scalp ”
