...the brief light flooding into the lens as the shutter blinked open in a mere millisecond. Although this particular moment seemed so insignificant at the time, so ephemeral in face, it was a defining instant for me. A light switch turned on, a door was opened; this moment changed the way I viewed the world.

At the age of eleven, I was introduced to photography. Following my father’s lead, I began taking photographs. Image after image, I was captivated by the idea that I could capture an instant, stopping time in its tracks. It was as if a switch was turned on in my brain; I began looking at the world with a new perspective—different than how I had ever before. Everything took on a new beauty. Mundane objects—a crooked lamp, a rusty wheelbarrow, window shades—became compelling works of art. Light reflections on the floor took on a whole new meaning. Photographs have an unprecedented way of conveying the rawest and truest of emotions. They help me make sense of the nonsensical. The world is now my photographic canvas. Armed with a camera, I step into the day with a new set of eyes, absorbing my surroundings and looking for the beauty in the little things.
