With stones as goal posts and aided by sign language and translators, Ishan began the Herculean task of teaching the 10- to 16-year-olds the nuances of the game every evening for the next two weeks. “It was an incredible
experience to teach children who had no knowledge of the game. There were frustrating moments when the children were unruly and didn’t listen but those moments were invaluable lessons for us. It was a big success,” Ishan said. Upon returning to London, Ishan and Duncan set up a charity ‘Kishkinda Kids’ club at school to raise money by hosting a shoe drive. ■ Turn to Page 4

Ralegan Siddhi, September 2: Anti-corruption crusader Anna Hazare on Friday lashed out at the UPA government for arresting him before his fast and asked people not to allow the torch of the second “battle of independence” to be extinguished as more “repeated shocks” can only ensure a corruption-free India. “I was picked up by Delhi Police from the house I was staying in,” Hazare told the ‘gram sabha’ of his village at his first public felicitation ceremony since he left hospital after a 12-day fast. “In two hours, I was told I am being released. Police said they had orders from above,” Hazare said and described Union home minister P. Chidambaram as a “khodsal” (mischievous) person. In a related development, the income-tax department slapped a notice on anti-graft crusader Anna Hazare’s associate, Arvind Kejriwal, on August 5, asking him to pay dues running to `9.27 lakh. But Union law minister Salman Khurshid said on Friday that the notice served to him is part of I-T department’s “routine duties”. Anna’s arrest petition denied ■ The Supreme Court on Friday declined to entertain a petition raising the issue of Gandhian crusader Anna Hazare’s arrest by Delhi Police on August 16, from his local residence where prohibitory orders were not in force, before the threatened hunger strike in Delhi on the Jan Lokpal Bill issue.
■ I-T department sources said Arvind Kejriwal was transferred to Chandigarh on promotion in March 2003 but he did not take up his posting as the Joint Commissioner of I-T and informed his superiors about his decision. The CCIT office in Delhi had written to him in 2007 and 2008 to clear his dues and Kejriwal responded to them with a plea to waive his dues. The latest notice to him was sent after an RTI application was received by the finance ministry in February, enquiring the service status of Kejriwal.

New Delhi, September 2: India reacted sharply Friday to comments by former England cricket skipper Nasser Hussain comparing Indian fielders to “donkeys” during the recent one-off T-20 international at Old Trafford. Indian cricket board vice-president Rajiv Shukla told reporters that Hussain’s remarks, made while commentating on Wednesday’s match, were “totally uncalled for”. “One should adopt restraint while making observations about players,” Mr Shukla said. “We will definitely look into it.
