easaHQ: a guide to the space

easaHQ guide to the space

The European Architecture Student’s Assembly is an annual event like no other. For two weeks it combines the knowledge and rigour of a conference with the energy and passion of a festival, and it never fails to have a deep and lasting impact on those students that are involved. Next year the assembly will be returning to England for the first time since its creation in Liverpool in 1981, and Manchester is the venue. This will be an urban EASA, connected with and invigorating the creative scene that the city is known for. The developer ASK’s loan of a former office building at 43 Hulme Street made it possible for us to create a space where interesting things can happen: easaHQ is a venue for exhibitions and events by the architectural establishment, by emerging artists, by musicians and performers, and by community groups, besides the work of the EASA network itself. For a single brief year, it will be at the centre of the connection between a Europe-wide network of students and the famously original city of Manchester.

EASA has no central or continuous authority; every year, it is recreated from scratch in a different European location by a committed team of unpaid student volunteers.

Using the space There are no charges for using the space; however, to make up some of the costs of opening the building we usually sell tea and cake at previews and set out a box for donations. Opening Times There are no set opening times for the space. However, we have found that the following times seem to work and we suggest them as a guide: Evening events: 6-9pm Exhibitions: 12-6 weekdays, 12-5 weekends. Events must not be open later than 9pm. Invigilation Exhibitors should organise their own invigilation. We will be able to open up and close down the building. Insurance The space is covered by public liability insurance, but we cannot insure works or art or equipment in the space and exhibitors should make their own arrangements for this.
