EASINGTON SPORTS FOOTBALL CLUB
THE CHAIRMAN Good afternoon everybody, I was pleased to have been able to watch the team away at Hinckley LRFC last Saturday. In difficult conditions and against a good side the team played well and resolutely. This was important after the fixture away at Harborough. It was only a penalty which separated the sides and Sports did create chances whilst remaining very compact and difficult to beat. The defeat followed the transfer of Levi Steele. Levis short spell at the club was impressive and clearly he is a player with the ability and desire to play at a higher level, everyone at the club wishes him well. Matt Giles has been able to add again to his squad with the return of Adam Taylor. Adam was sensational in the early FA Cup fixtures during the summer and its great to see him back. The squad remains a young talented squad and we very much look forward to the future. This is enhanced by the continued success of the Development team. Andy Sharman has got this group playing well with a number of the players eager to get an opportunity in the UCLS. We welcome Biggleswade United FC to Addison Road for their first ever visit. They have seen success in recent fixtures and we know from our visit to them what a good side they have. We wish them all the best for the remainder of the season ahead as we enter the last few months of fixtures. I hope you all enjoy your afternoon with us With best wishes
Best wishes Richard Meadows Chairman

EASINGTON SPORTS FOOTBALL CLUB
Good afternoon and welcome to Addison Road, As we expected, February was a tough month for us. However, with our strong form going into the month, we would have liked to come out of it with more than 3 points; Instead, we have had a turbulent time with a very complacent performance at home to Chenecks and an unacceptable performance away to Harborough who were ruthless on an evening when we were far from what is expected of us. We had a good result and clean sheet away to Coventry United and encouragingly, despite a 1-0 loss, a battling performance away at Hinckley which allows us to approach March with some positivity. Losing Levi Steele is a big blow; He came in just before the new year and has contributed excellently. It was only a matter of time before he moved on to bigger and better things and we wish him well. We have also lost Lewis Baldwin for the season to an injury sustained away from football. We have waited patiently for Lewis to gain fitness this season to embed him into the team but luck hasn’t been on his side and we will have to wait until next season to enjoy having him fit. Aside from these two losses, the squad is in good shape with nothing more than some light niggles that we are managing. We may see some development players feature as we approach the end of the season, however, it is important we don’t hinder their chances of winning their own league as this will be a great character building experience for them if they can get across the line. Andy and the team have my continued support as they approach some big fixtures. Today's opponents are coming here on the back of two victories. Despite their league position, they have battled tirelessly in matches throughout this season and will feel they deserve more points than they have picked up; None more so perhaps than in our reverse fixture when we came away with a 2-1 win. We know how hard working they are and some of the quality they possess so we have prepared accordingly and will be hoping to come out on top again in what will be a tough game. Good luck to Biggleswade for the rest of the season.

MATCH REPORT Hinckley LRFC 1 v 0 Easington Sports FC Early penalty only goal of the game Sports resolute but come away with nothing. Sports travelled to top of the table Hinckley LRFC determined to put in a better performance than the crushing defeat The Leicester Road stadium is one of the best in the league with a seated main stand and 2 covered terraces behind one goal and along the side opposite the main stand it certainly warrants higher level football. The first half was a scrappy affair, the only real action was the Hinckley goal which came after Jordon Burrows was brought down in the box and Matt Langham struck home from the spot on 9 minutes. Sports were matching the home side without really creating any chances. Half Time Hinckley LRFC 1 Easington Sports 0 The first real chance of the 2nd half fell to Hinckley and Langham whose shot was well saved by Joe White in the Sports goal. The half then became very scrappy and niggly with a series of fouls and free kicks with a number of yellow cards dished out to both teams. Jarred Acton was sent off for the home side after receiving 2 yellow cards on 95 minutes. This was a battling performance full of heart from Sports especially in the second half but unfortunately they could not find an equaliser even after a few decent chances from free kicks. Line Up. Sports. White, Swann, Eyre (C), Rose, Goddard, Barton, Walters, Watts, Walton, Stott, Brock. Subs Dunn, Northover, Sabin, Butler GK.

EASINGTON SPORTS FOOTBALL CLUB
EASINGTON SPORTS FC HISTORY The Club was formed in the immediate post-war period of 1945/46 to fulfil the sporting and social needs of the young people of the Easington housing estate in Banbury, many of who were returning from war service. The Club, then known as ‘The Clan’, soon prospered, as there was an obvious need for such a facility, and formed a cricket, tennis and a ladies section. Football was, however, the main branch of the Club’s activity, and they began playing in the local Junior Leagues as Easington Sports F.C. The football was played on pastureland to the west of Wykham Lane, and for a few years endured the lack of facilities enjoyed today by almost all clubs. (No water available on site, no real changing facilities to name but two of the privations to be met on a cold winter’s afternoon). Fortunately, this situation was soon to change, for as a result of tireless fund raising by all concerned and some dedicated work by stalwarts such as Gordon Vivash, Tim Fountain and many other committed club members, the prospect of a new ground owned by the Club became a reality. The purchase of the Addison Road ground and the building of a clubroom, together with the Club’s entry to the Oxfordshire Senior League was the beginning of senior football for Sports, and to their credit they proved to be a formidable force at that level. (Becoming winners and finalists in the Senior Cup and heading the Premier League table on two occasions in the early and mid-fifties). In view of their success at county level the Club sought entry, and was accepted into the old Warwickshire Combination, which at that time counted professional and semiprofessional teams. (Aston Villa ‘A’, West Bromwich Albion ‘B’ and teams which now grace the Conference as members). Although having moderate success in this competition, as with many other amateur clubs; finance played its part in the decision to return to the Oxfordshire Senior League, where the expenses, in particular travelling, were much more in line with the club’s limited income. Looking to raise their standards once more, the Club sought entry to the Hellenic League. Subject to certain ground improvements they were readily accepted, and have remained as members of Division One ever since. With some ‘ups and downs’, Sport’s have almost always been mid-table at the end of each season, which, considering their amateur status against mostly professional or well-sponsored opponents has not been too bad a record. The Club has always sought to give the youngsters of Banbury and district an opportunity to get into senior football, and indeed beyond, and has continually run youth teams at various age levels. Wishing all those whose ability took them to higher levels good luck, and feeling grateful that the club gave them the start/plat- form to their careers. It has sometimes been said that Easington Sports have not been ambitious or forward looking enough in their sixty years, but shrewd and cautious stewardship by series of committees over the years have ensured that the club has never overreached itself financially, and has remained faithful to its original ideals to provide football of a good standard for local youth. In 2019 the club were awarded Community Charter Standard Status and currently have 35 affiliated teams. Our youth teams include both boys and girls and our open age section now includes three male, two female and a pan disability squad. We remain committed to providing those in the local community with a pathway into football. Our lateral movement into the UCLS for 2021 /2022 provides a welcome new challenge.

EASINGTON SPORTS FOOTBALL CLUB
Biggleswade United Football Club was re-formed on the 16th July 1959. However, local history records indicate that there was a Biggleswade United side playing at Second Meadow as early as 1929. Our first season (1959/60) saw us competing in Division Three of the North Herts. League (NHL). After 10 successful years in the NHL the club made the step up to South Midlands League (SML) football. But towards the end of a 15-year association with the SML the club began to struggle and after three years of finishing in the bottom three of Division One we sought fresh fields. The club joined the Herts. Senior but club continued to find the going tough. In 1986 we elected to return to local League football, joining the Bedford and District Football League and began to build again. The appointment of Brian Swords as first team manager in 87/88 proved to be the turning point in the club's fortunes. During the next ten years the club achieved a tremendous amount of success on and off the football pitch. Our record of League and Cup honours speak for themselves but aligned to this a great deal of work went on behind the scenes to match the on-field success. The club now boasts one of the best clubhouse and ground facilities in the Mid-Bedfordshire area. The success of the club has also attracted many new players as well as commanding a great deal of loyalty from those players who helped the club progress from Division Three of the Bedford and District League to County Senior Club status in just 15 years. The 1995/96 season was the most successful in the club's history - winning five major honours; the Beds Intermediate County Cup, Bedford and District League Championship, League Cup Championship and as the League's representatives the club won the Beds. FA Centenary Cup. Having won every major Bedford League honour the club felt it was time to move on and made the decision to make the step up once again and returned to Division One of the SML. In an exceptionally successful first season we celebrated a Division One "double" by winning the Championship and the Division One Cup. We also retained the Beds. FA Intermediate County Cup, only the second club in the competition's history to achieve this feat. To crown our success the club were awarded the SML Special Achievement Trophy in July 1997. In the season 1997/98 we finally achieved Senior status. This was achieved not only through the endeavours of the players on the field but ultimately as a result of an extremely hard working committee. With the help of the Biggleswade Town Council a new stand was erected and perimeter fencing installed. And two seasons later the club erected floodlights and on the evening of 26th October 1999 we played our first-ever floodlit game at Second Meadow, Ryman League side Leighton Town were the visitors in the Bedfordshire Premier Cup. The next eleven years saw the first team led by Steve "Snowy" Wright and under his management the club continued to enjoy a very high level of League and Cup success ultimately achieving promotion to the Molten Spartan South Midlands League Premier Division and with it the opportunity to compete in the FA Cup. And under Snowy the club made three Beds FA Senior Challenge Cup final appearances, winning two of the three with victories over Stotfold (4-1) and Leighton Town (1-0) but missed out in 2006/07 going down 2-0 to Dunstable Town. Snowy's other cup successes came in the form of the Hunts Premeir Cup, North Beds Charity Cup, Hinchingbrooke Cup, the SML Division One Cup and the SML Special Achievement Award once again. The end of the 2006 2007 saw Snowy step down as manager with his assistant, Nick Burton taking over the first team reins. January 5th 2009 saw the club embark on further ambitious ground improvements. With financial backing from Biggleswade Town Council, Mid Beds District Council and the Football Foundation we installed a 260-seater stand, fully enclosed the ground with a double turnstile entrance and players' secure walkway which raised the ground to Grade E status.

EASINGTON SPORTS FOOTBALL CLUB
After several years of stability in terms of first team managers the next six years saw a regular turnover of first team and reserve team managers with Nick Burton, Dave Elkin and Phil Childs all taking over the first team reins for a time. At the start of the 2013 2014 season we appointed Mick Reardon and Mark Royal as first team managers both of whom had enjoyed success as coaches at the higher levels of football. Their disciplined approach was quickly adhered to and responded to by the players and under their stewardship we achieved the highest Premier Division position in nine years and first silverware in seven years winning the North Beds Charity Cup for the first time in the club’s history. In November 2014 the club took a further positive step to realise our ambitions with the appointment of Sky Sports Presenter and renowned author, Guillem Balague as Biggleswade United’s Director of Football. Following Mick and Mark’s decision to step down at the end 2014 2015, Guillem was quick to act and recruited a new Head Coach in Cristian Colas Beccera. Cristian was assisted by former professional player, Stuart Bimson, and under their guidance the team finished in eighth spot in the Premier Division in 2017 2018 - the highest position in the club’s history. Having built a strong reputation for their outstanding coaching ability and playing philosophy Cristian and Stuart moved up to Step 3 level club, Staines Town, for the start of the 2018 2019 season. Guillem was again in search for a high quality coach and Jimmy Martin came highly recommended by his predecessor, Colas, who worked with Jimmy at Stevenage FC Academy. Jimmy was appointed Manager in May 2018 but he tendered his resignation in October 2018 having been offered a “hard to refuse” opportunity to take up a coaching role at Premier Division club Watford. Despite the setback the first team went on to record their highest ever League placing – a fourth spot in the Premier Division. In the season 2019 2020 the club were sitting in a highly commendable third position in the Premier Division and under the management of Chris Devane and Trishnan Patel were hoping for a promotion play off opportunity. However, in March 2020 the season was decalred Null and Void by the FA after the devastating outbreak of the Coronavirus. The club were also to learn that Chris and Tishnan had accepted the offer to work at Step 4 and departed the club at short notice. Fortunately the club were able to call upon the services of former Head Coach Cristian Colas Cristian took the club to its highest ever position in the club’s history at the curtailmant of the 20/21 season leaving us second in the table on PPG. The club applied for promotion to Step 4 but were unsuccessful. A double whammy came when the club were subjected to a lateral move to the Uhlsport United Counties League. After ten years of steady progress at Step 5 the club now face a challenging period that will require steadfastness and perserverance as we work to rebuild a squad that will once again be challenging for promotion. The club has certainly come a long way in relatively few years but we could not have done it without the help of a very supportive Town and District Council who clearly understand the benefits of having a community based club in Biggleswade. Our success is also very much down to a very hard working committee who throughout the year - not just the football season - continue to volunteer their time and commitment to the club, to help it continue to thrive and be a source of enjoyment for our supporters and the Biggleswade community.
