EASINGTON SPORTS FOOTBALL CLUB

THE CHAIRMAN Good evening and welcome to Addison Road.

A special warm welcome to all those connected with Bugbrooke St Michael FC who I understand will have travelled to us for the first time this evening. After the mid-week excitement of FA Cup replays back in the early stages of the season, we are back to the normality of another United Counties Premier Division game tonight. The conditions are all set for a typical mid-week Autumnal affair and I am sure it will be a close game. Bugbrooke have so far proved that promotion was well deserved after the restructuring of the leagues in the summer. Their results have been a little mixed, just like our own. However, it is clear that when they are on form, they can compete with the best sides in the league. I also note their reserve side is top of Division 2 which suggests our visitors have good depth to their squad which is essential for the amount of mid weeks games. Sports have also started to build some momentum in the league with a 5 game unbeaten run that started with our best performance of the season against Coventry United. I hope the boys can put on another strong performance this evening so that we can extend this run. I hope you have a safe journey home Best wishes Richard Meadows Chairman

EASINGTON SPORTS FOOTBALL CLUB

Good evening and welcome to Addison Road, We now find ourselves in a much more respectable position having gone 5 games in the league without a defeat. To gain 13 points from a possible 15 available is a great return, especially after the start we made to the league season. That being said, we are still not producing performances that we are happy with on a consistent basis. There are things we are still not satisfied with in our play so hopefully we will continue to make improvements and begin to control games better than we have done. As mentioned previously, we have set some in-house targets for October; we have achieved the first of these targets which has built a belief in the squad that we can continue to win football matches in this new league and move up the table. The players are very clear that the hard work that has gone into the start of the month can easily be undone if we take our foot of the pedal. It has been very pleasing that the whole squad of players understands they have a role to play in us making a success of this season and I think this has been demonstrated recently with the contributions some of our players have made a substitutes. Bugbrooke have had a mixed start to the league season which has included a points deduction. Their league position is false because of this and they will be looking to pick up points quickly so the table shows a fairer reflection. They come here off the back of a solid win away to Godmanchester at the weekend and they will be buoyed by the fact they have picked up 4 of their 5 wins away from home this season. We are expecting a very tough game. Good luck to Bugbrooke for the rest of the season. Best Regards

Matt Giles Manager

MATCH REPORT Biggleswade UTD FC 1 v 2 Easington Sports FC Sports makes it 4 wins from 5. Hosts battle hard but Sports claim three points. In truth this wasn’t a great game or performance against the hosts who find themselves at the foot of the table despite the excellent playing surface. In a scrappy first half, neither team produced too many moments of quality and at half time the score remained 0-0. In the second half a trademark determined run and finish from Harry Walters saw Sports take the lead. However, a slip from Tom Smith saw the Biggleswade United striker break free to equalise. The hosts were buoyed by this as they looked to claim their first points of the season. In form Alfie Dunn soon regained the lead for Sports with a low free kick from just outside the box to secure the points.

EASINGTON SPORTS FOOTBALL CLUB

EASINGTON SPORTS FC HISTORY The Club was formed in the immediate post-war period of 1945/46 to fulfill the sporting and social needs of the young people of the Easington housing estate in Banbury, many of who were returning from war service. The Club, then known as ‘The Clan’, soon prospered, as there was an obvious need for such a facility, and formed a cricket, tennis and a ladies section. Football was, however, the main branch of the Club’s activity, and they began playing in the local Junior Leagues as Easington Sports F.C. The football was played on pastureland to the west of Wykham Lane, and for a few years endured the lack of facilities enjoyed today by almost all clubs. (No water available on site, no real changing facilities to name but two of the privations to be met on a cold winter’s afternoon). Fortunately, this situation was soon to change, for as a result of tireless fund raising by all concerned and some dedicated work by stalwarts such as Gordon Vivash, Tim Fountain and many other committed club members, the prospect of a new ground owned by the Club became a reality. The purchase of the Addison Road ground and the building of a clubroom, together with the Club’s entry to the Oxfordshire Senior League was the beginning of senior football for Sports, and to their credit they proved to be a formidable force at that level. (Becoming winners and finalists in the Senior Cup and heading the Premier League table on two occasions in the early and mid-fifties). In view of their success at county level the Club sought entry, and was accepted into the old Warwickshire Combination, which at that time counted professional and semiprofessional teams. (Aston Villa ‘A’, West Bromwich Albion ‘B’ and teams which now grace the Conference as members). Although having moderate success in this competition, as with many other amateur clubs; finance played its part in the decision to return to the Oxfordshire Senior League, where the expenses, in particular travelling, were much more in line with the club’s limited income. Looking to raise their standards once more, the Club sought entry to the Hellenic League. Subject to certain ground improvements they were readily accepted, and have remained as members of Division One ever since. With some ‘ups and downs’, Sport’s have almost always been mid-table at the end of each season, which, considering their amateur status against mostly professional or well-sponsored opponents has not been too bad a record. The Club has always sought to give the youngsters of Banbury and district an opportunity to get into senior football, and indeed beyond, and has continually run youth teams at various age levels. Wishing all those whose ability took them to higher levels good luck, and feeling grateful that the club gave them the start/plat- form to their careers. It has sometimes been said that Easington Sports have not been ambitious or forward looking enough in their sixty years, but shrewd and cautious stewardship by series of committees over the years have ensured that the club has never overreached itself financially, and has remained faithful to its original ideals to provide football of a good standard for local youth. In 2019 the club were awarded Community Charter Standard Status and currently have 35 affiliated teams. Our youth teams include both boys and girls and our open age section now includes three male, two female and a pan disability squad. We remain committed to providing those in the local community with a pathway into football. Our lateral movement into the UCLS for 2021 /2022 provides a welcome new challenge.

EASINGTON SPORTS FOOTBALL CLUB

Founded in 1929, Bugbrooke St Michaels FC replaced Bugbrooke United who wound up in 1927 having played since 1910. In our early years we won the Central Village League from 1932–37 and were Runners-Up in the NFA Junior Cup. Other successful teams have arisen in each decade since then with the side's of the 60’s and 70’s being extremely prodigious in winning trophies. In 1985 we joined the United Counties League and won promotion to the UCL Premier Division in 1999 which enabled us to play in the FA Cup and FA Vase for the first time. Since joining the UCL the club has run four senior teams, two of which play in the Northants Combination League. The club are proud to have developed a mini and youth system which has run since the 1990’s, We currently run 12 teams across our Mini and Youth section from Under 7s through to Under 18s, many of whom have gained honours in the Northampton & District Youth Alliance and Northants Senior Youth Leagues. In 2003 the club became a Community Charter Standard Club and in 2004/2005 we were recognised by Northants FA as the best Community Club. As a reward for the clubs hard work in the community, in 2007 the then Under 10’s were invited to represent Northants FA in a six-a-side tournament at the new Wembley Stadium. The latest addition to the club is an open-age Ladies team who were entered in the Northants Womens and Girls League for the 2020/21 season. Off the pitch the club has worked hard to improve its facilities investing a lot of time and money to make them amongst the best in the County. We were awarded a Football Foundation grant in 2006 enabling us to build the new changing rooms and improve social facilities. These were opened in 2007 by John Gregory who is connected to the village by marriage. Improvements continue to be made on and off the pitch as the club continues to move forward.
