THE
CHAIRMAN
Good evening all I hope you are all well and are looking forward to the game this evening. Since the early conclusion of the 2020/2021 season we have been working tirelessly behind the scenes despite no open age football. The changes made under the National League System restructuring process saw eleven teams change within the Hellenic League. Under those proposals this was no longer sustainable for us as a club. We appealed the decision and requested a move to the United Counties league, which offered us more local football of 996 miles less travel during the season. Thankfully our appeal was upheld and we look forward to new challenges in the season ahead. We have also been working hard to ensure that Addison Road has benefitted from further development. As a result of awards from the FA and Football Foundation we continue to improve our facilities to ensure that they are the best as can be. Matt Giles and his coaching team have been proactive throughout all of this period and its great to see stability within the group. The first two pre-season fixtures have seen inclusion of players in the squad who have been promoted from the Development and Clan team. This is part of our ongoing philosophy to promote young local talent. We were delighted to once again host football at Addison Road on Saturday against Daventry Town FC and I was impressed by the performance of the squad against a Southern League side. Tonight will be another tough test against our friends from Banbury United FC and its great that the tradition of holding the Ron Thomas Cup annual fixture continues. We are also pleased to once again be able to welcome members of the Thomas family to this fixture. I hope you enjoy your evening at Addison Road today. Please do pay attention to our COVID precautions in place. Please sanitise hands where you can and especially before going into the clubhouse, wear a face covering in the clubhouse and be respectful and leave space between groups of people. I would like to wish everybody a safe journey home. Richard Meadows Chairman

Good evening and welcome to Addison Road, On Saturday we played our second pre-season friendly and our first game at home in 258 days. It has been a frustrating time for us all but a relief that we can now look forward to the new season ahead and the return of regular football. The pre-season has also seen us change leagues from the Hellenic League to the United Counties League. This in itself will bring fresh challenges but ones as a squad that we are very much looking forward to. Im grateful that my staff from the last two years remain as committed as ever with me. The playing group is also fairly unchanged and with that continuity brings hope and optimism to build on the progress we have made. We continue to work with the club and their philosophy in bringing through young players. On Saturday we produced a good performance against Daventry Town FC, a Southern League side, and once again tonight will be a tough test against Banbury United FC. It is our hope that we continue to challenge ourselves in these pre-season friendlies against strong opposition to ensure we are ready for our first competitive fixture which will be in the FA Cup against Wokingham and Emmbrook on the 7th August 2021. Im really looking forward to tonights game which is a great game for local Banbury football and hopefully we will have a good attendance. I wish all involved at Banbury United FC good luck for the season.

MATCH REPORT Easington Sports FC 1 v 2 Daventry Town FC Sports impress against Southern League opposition. Easington Sports FC continued their pre season preparations with an impressive display against Daventry Town FC in front of a good crowd at Addison Road. Matty Crowther made his first start at home in goal with the remainder of the squad unchanged from the past season which is credit to the players and staff given they hadn’t played a home fixture for 258 days as a result of the Covid pandemic. Sports started brightly in early even exchanges. Captain Joe Eyre was forced off with a muscle injury after two minutes to be replaced by Sam Sherpa Moore. It was Daventry who took the lead on 9 minutes as a straight ball through the middle found the on rushing midfielder who slotted home. Sports then started to influence the game with Darius Browne impressive in midfield. The equaliser came after great work by Sam Sherpa Moore saw his shot hit the post. Striker Josh Bowden followed up well and finished the rebound from close range. The second half was much the same, and again Daventry took the lead through number 7 grabbing his second goal in similar fashion. The remainder of the game was fairly combative and Daventry were reduced to 10 after their midfielder lashed out at Alfie Dunn striking him in the face. Overall a decent performance against a good Daventry side and lots of positives to take from it, not least the return of football to Addison Road in front of a home crowd.

EASINGTON SPORTS FOOTBALL CLUB
EASINGTON SPORTS FC HISTORY The Club was formed in the immediate post-war period of 1945/46 to fulfill the sporting and social needs of the young people of the Easington housing estate in Banbury, many of who were returning from war service. The Club, then known as ‘The Clan’, soon prospered, as there was an obvious need for such a facility, and formed a cricket, tennis and a ladies section. Football was, however, the main branch of the Club’s activity, and they began playing in the local Junior Leagues as Easington Sports F.C. The football was played on pastureland to the west of Wykham Lane, and for a few years endured the lack of facilities enjoyed today by almost all clubs. (No water available on site, no real changing facilities to name but two of the privations to be met on a cold winter’s afternoon). Fortunately, this situation was soon to change, for as a result of tireless fund raising by all concerned and some dedicated work by stalwarts such as Gordon Vivash, Tim Fountain and many other committed club members, the prospect of a new ground owned by the Club became a reality. The purchase of the Addison Road ground and the building of a clubroom, together with the Club’s entry to the Oxfordshire Senior League was the beginning of senior football for Sports, and to their credit they proved to be a formidable force at that level. (Becoming winners and finalists in the Senior Cup and heading the Premier League table on two occasions in the early and mid-fifties). In view of their success at county level the Club sought entry, and was accepted into the old Warwickshire Combination, which at that time counted professional and semiprofessional teams. (Aston Villa ‘A’, West Bromwich Albion ‘B’ and teams which now grace the Conference as members). Although having moderate success in this competition, as with many other amateur clubs; finance played its part in the decision to return to the Oxfordshire Senior League, where the expenses, in particular travelling, were much more in line with the club’s limited income. Looking to raise their standards once more, the Club sought entry to the Hellenic League. Subject to certain ground improvements they were readily accepted, and have remained as members of Division One ever since. With some ‘ups and downs’, Sport’s have almost always been mid-table at the end of each season, which, considering their amateur status against mostly professional or well-sponsored opponents has not been too bad a record. The Club has always sought to give the youngsters of Banbury and district an opportunity to get into senior football, and indeed beyond, and has continually run youth teams at various age levels. Wishing all those whose ability took them to higher levels good luck, and feeling grateful that the club gave them the start/plat- form to their careers. It has sometimes been said that Easington Sports have not been ambitious or forward looking enough in their sixty years, but shrewd and cautious stewardship by series of committees over the years have ensured that the club has never overreached itself financially, and has remained faithful to its original ideals to provide football of a good standard for local youth. In 2019 the club were awarded Community Charter Standard Status and currently have 35 affiliated teams. Our youth teams include both boys and girls and our open age section now includes three male, two female and a pan disability squad. We remain committed to providing those in the local community with a pathway into football. Our lateral movement into the UCLS for 2021 /2022 provides a welcome new challenge.
