THE CHAIRMAN

Good evening Welcome to Addison Road for our first home competitive fixture of the season. It is great to be back and even better to be hosting an FA Cup replay! Our visitors this evening, Burnham FC, should really have been out of sight have a blistering start to the cup tie at the weekend and so credit to our lads for hanging on in the game and for earning a replay with a goal in the last 5 minutes of the match. I am certain we will be in for another close game this evening. Burnham look to shift the ball very quickly and they have great pace across the front 3 positions. They were a goal up inside 10 minutes at the weekend, hit the post and there were 3 great saves from Adam (Doyle) to keep us in the game. We certainly rode our luck in the first half, but I felt that by the end of the game we deserved to take the game to a replay as we were much better in the second half and put Burnham under more sustained pressure. Tom Smith’s header was the third set piece from in and around the penalty area and it was a brilliant goal. Callum (Convey) delivered an inch perfect cross into the box and Tom made contact like an “old fashioned” centre half would, and the ball flew into the top corner! Sports have certainly had a more settled pre season than last year. There are far less injuries and so I think we are over the issues created by the pandemic in previous seasons. We had our best run in the FA Cup last season getting through 2 rounds before getting knocked out by Cirencester Town. Fingers crossed we can get another victory this evening and we can then go on another run in the cup! Please do all enjoy yourselves this evening, have a safe journey home and drive safely out of Addison Road to keep our local neighbours happy!

Best wishes Richard Meadows Chairman

EASINGTON SPORTS FOOTBALL CLUB

Good evening all & welcome to Addison Road for what should be another cracking FA Cup battle Vs Burnham. If we get anything like the drama we had on Sat then you are in for an exciting night! Burnham were excellent first half & dominated the early stages of the game forcing us into early changes to our system. Second half I thought we were excellent creating a number of clear chances to get back in the game, in typical FA Cup fashion when you think its not going to be your day Tom Smith pounces on a Convey free kick for a deserved equaliser. As I write my first programme notes I want start by saying it will be an honour leading this club, it is full of great passionate people who build from the bottom up. With around 45 youth teams 3 mens teams, 2 ladies teams & the brilliant Phoenix team we will create huge pathways opportunities for the youth players coming through the ranks. Whilst I mention this I want to congratulate Jack Herbert who played a big part on Sat and was involved in pre-season & at just 16 years of age he has come into the squad and looked very comfortable. This kid has a great future and reconfirms the clubs philosophy. There will be more. As normal I will be attending many of the youth games through the new season looking for the next exciting prospect. Pre-season has been excellent & the new squad are completely buying into our plans, we have a mix of youth & experience throughout the squad. We worked them extremely hard ready for our first league game Vs Godmanchester where it is imperative we have very fit squad ready to fight for everything. Godmanchester was a dream start as we had be patient off the ball but very comfortable through most of the game. The obvious highlight was Elijah Coe with a very impressive hattrick, this lad has just been released from Oxford so we are delighted to get him enjoying his football again, as normal the plan is to very much get him & running for what will be another bright future. MK Irish was a disappointing night where we dominated the early stages of the game in which we were wasteful in front of goal, unfortunately goals change games and after conceding we struggled to get any kind of rhythm to get back in the game. Lots learnt. we move on quickly. Finally I just want to mention my brilliant new back room team of Kinchy, Boylo, Wally, Ricky & Ali who all played an invaluable part behind the scenes, I’m very passionate, demanding & relentless on the phone, they all have huge roles to play and have been brilliant. We know how tough this season will be and we are under no illusions however the place is buzzing - we have a great squad of players that are 100% honest and committed to the cause - they will run through brick walls for each other and give us everything, this on its own will win us points throughout the season. It is now vital that as fans & spectators you also buy into what we are doing and turn up in your numbers, its makes such a difference and brings us ever closer together. Every game for us is a cup final & we will give it absolutely everything – get behind us!

Sharm

MATCH REPORT SMITH ENSURES SPORTS SURVIVAL IN THE FA CUP Tom Smith converted an inch perfect free kick from Callum Convey in the last few minutes of the game to earn Sports a replay back at Addison Road. This was a thoroughly entertaining game which our hosts dominated in the first half whilst Sports grew into the game and finished the stronger of the two sides in the second half. Burnham were a well organsied and pacey side and this meant they started the brighter and Easington just couldn’t get into the game. Burnham were happy to play out from the back, and in particular, Kane Guy-Seifert linked up well with Naheer Nawaf to cause Tom Haynes lots of problems down our left hand side in the early stages of the game. In fact Nawaf, provided a great assist in the opening 8 minutes, out pacing the defence before knocking a ball across the 6 yard box which Rhys Harper neatly finished to give Burnham the lead. Both Easington fullbacks had a difficult spell in the opening 20 minutes of the game and just a few minutes later it was Tom Smith under pressure from Anas Igozuln. The lively winger broke down the left hand side cutting in which lead to Adam Doyle making a smart save at his near post. Burnham could have been out of sight had they taken their chances. There were further saves from Doyle from close range set pieces and Burnham also hit the post before Sports even managed a half shot on goal. Easington certainly rode their luck in the first half, but by the end of the game they just about deserved to take the game to a replay due to a much improved second half display. Although struggling to test the experienced Carl Dennison in the Burnham goal, Sports did manage to exert more pressure in the final third and started to stretch the home defence. Jack Herbert and Luke Swann worked hard to move the defence around with some improved lines of running and now it was the hosts who were looking to stop fast attacks with free kicks around the edge of the box. Swann also fired across the face of the goal and Dennison showed good hands to cut out several whipped cross into the box. Tom Smith’s equaliser came from the third set piece in quick succession from in and around the penalty area and it was a brilliant headed goal which gave Dennison no chance. Callum (Convey) delivered an inch perfect cross into the box and Tom made contact like an “old fashioned” centre half would, and the ball flew into the top corner to equalise with just 3 minutes of the normal 90 minutes to go. Easington managed the closing stages of the game knowing a replay was to be the reward for a more committed and energetic display in the second half.

QUOTE OF THE DAY Richard Meadows – I sense a goal, its coming. Told you!!!!!

EASINGTON SPORTS FOOTBALL CLUB

EASINGTON SPORTS FC HISTORY The Club was formed in the immediate post-war period of 1945/46 to fulfil the sporting and social needs of the young people of the Easington housing estate in Banbury, many of whom were returning from war service. The Club, then known as ‘The Clan’, soon prospered, as there was an obvious need for such a facility, and formed a cricket, tennis and a ladies section. Football was, however, the main branch of the Club’s activity, and they began playing in the local Junior Leagues as Easington Sports F.C. The football was played on pastureland to the west of Wykham Lane, and for a few years endured the lack of facilities enjoyed today by almost all clubs. (No water available on site, no real changing facilities to name but two of the privations to be met on a cold winter’s afternoon). Fortunately, this situation was soon to change after tireless fund raising by stalwarts such as Gordon Vivash, Tim Fountain and many other committed club members, the prospect of a new ground owned by the Club became a reality. The purchase of the Addison Road ground and the building of a clubroom, together with the Club’s entry to the Oxfordshire Senior League was the beginning of senior football for Sports, and to their credit they proved to be a formidable force at that level. Sports became winners and finalists in the Senior Cup and led the Premier League table on two occasions in the early and mid-fifties. In view of their success at county level the Club sought entry and was accepted into the old Warwickshire Combination, which at that time counted professional and semi-professional teams including Aston Villa ‘A’ and West Bromwich Albion ‘B’. Although having moderate success in this competition, as with many other amateur clubs; finance played its part in the decision to return to the Oxfordshire Senior League, where the expenses, in particular travelling, were much more in line with the club’s limited income. Looking to raise their standards once more, the Club sought entry to the Hellenic League. Subject to certain ground improvements they were readily accepted and remained as members until 2021. In 2018/19 Ben Milner and squad won promotion to the Premier League being crowned Champions before two Covid affected seasons. A review of the NLS saw Sports move into the United Counties League South and a new challenge. In our first season in the UCLS, Matt Giles managed the squad to 14 th with impressive wins including those against Coventry United and Rugby Town. In 2021/2022 Andy Sharman managed the Development squad to the UHL Division 2 title and OFA Intermediate Cup Final. With Matt Giles stepping down, Andy Sharman was appointed managed with Tommy Kinch and Mark Boyland assisting. Sharman will once again focus on using local Banbury based talent to compete in the UCL, giving a chance to many from the Development and Clan squads. In 2022 the club were awarded Level 3 FA Accreditation, with 38 affiliated teams and over 600 players. Our youth teams include both boys and girls and our open age section now includes three male, two female, a pan disability squad and over 50’s football. We also work in partnership with Oxford United in the Community, offering free Women Wellbeing, Premier League Kick and Primary Stars sessions as part of the programme. Relocation remains a priority for the committee and trustees to ensure that our facilities match the growth and needs of the club. We remain committed to providing those in the local community with a pathway into football.

Badges Notes….. Joe Eyre ©

Its been a good start to things under our new gaffer Sharm. Our pre season has been good with a lot of younger lads from the Development team last season joining and a couple returning who were with us when we won the league a couple of seasons ago. We have a good mix of personalities this year and a great atmopshere in the changing room. If we stick to what we are good at I think we could pick some very good results. EASINGTON SPORTS FOOTBALL CLUB

At Easington Sports FC our Wildcats centres have now been running for over 5 years. In that time, we have seen the integration of over 100 new girls players across six affiliated girls teams within the Oxfordshire Girls Football League.

The sessions are ran by ESFC Ladies players Tammy Starr and Emily Alcock, supported by volunteers from our Under 16 girls squads. The sessions are fun based football games for girls new to football with a view to providing them a pathway into an affiliated team.

We are hugely proud of our girls section and the progress this has made.

New for 2022 / 2023 we are delighted to announce our partnership with EMD Inpsire. EMD Inspire will support our Wildcats sessions as we look to welcome more new girls to football and #TheClan.

EASINGTON SPORTS FOOTBALL CLUB

A BRIEF HISTORY OF BURNHAM FOOTBALL CLUB Founded in 1878, Burnham Football Club is the second oldest club Buckinghamshire. We played in the early years, with considerable success, in various leagues, before joining the Great Western Combination in 1948. We moved to the Wycombe Combination in 1964 and then spent one season (1970/71) in the Reading Combination. In 1971 the club was elected to the Hellenic League. Winning both the Premier Division and League Cup in 1975/76. We were also twice beaten finalists in the League Cup too. In 1977 the club were elected to the Athenian League and were twice runners-up before the league folded in 1984. We competed in the London Spartan League in 1984/85. Winning both the Premier Division title and the League Cup. The summer of 1985 bought about the amalgamation of the football club with Hillingdon Borough FC, who had lost their ground and were about to fold. We played in the Southern League as Burnham & Hillingdon FC and reverted back to the former name of Burnham FC in 1987. Season 1994/95 saw us finish bottom. Resulting in relegation to the Hellenic League. After 3 seasons in the Hellenic League, finishing fifth, third and again third in 1998/99. the club won both the Premier Division title and the League Cup. Therefore, gaining promotion back to the Southern Football League where we have played ever since. The 2006/07 season saw us achieve our highest league position. Finishing 3rd and thus qualifying for the end of season Promotion Play-Off semi final. Unfortunately losing to the eventual winners – Swindon Supermarine. The 2012-2013 season was, without doubt, the most successful in the football clubs history. The First Team won the Evo Stik League Southern Division One Central (Southern League) championship. Earning promotion to the newly sponsored Calor League Premier Division (Southern League), while our Reserves won the UHLSPORT Hellenic League Division Two East championship at the first time of asking. Earning promotion to Division One East where they came up against the First Teams of many of the previous seasons opposition. CUP COMPETITION HISTORY In cup competitions Burnham reached the Quarter Final of the FA Vase in 1977/78 and then went one better in reaching the Semi Final in 1982/83. Losing 4-2 over two legs to Halesowen Town. The clubs record attendance of 2400 was achieved in the home leg. We have twice reached the Third Qualifying round of the FA Cup and in 2005/06 we reached the First Round Proper for the first time ever, before losing at home to Aldershot Town.

In the F.A.Trophy we reached the Fourth Round (the last 16) in 1999/2000. Before losing to Scarborough in a replay after a creditable 1-1 draw at The Gore. In the Berks & Bucks Senior Cup we reached the Semi Final twice before losing on both occasions to Chesham United.
