THE

CHAIRMAN

Good evening all, Good evening everybody and welcome to Addison Road this evening, and in particular, a very warm welcome to all officials and spectators from Cinderford Town Fc who were excellent hosts at the weekend. I am really pleased we are all here again tonight for another FA Cup tie after an encouraging performance. The game at the weekend was certainly a great one for the neutrals with a surprising number of goalmouth chances for both sides. Adam Taylor’s goal after 5 minutes really set the tie up as it allowed us to sit back and hit Cinderford on the break. I felt we carried a threat all game and I thought we had snatched the victory scoring in the 89th minute to make it 2-3… sadly… we couldn’t hold on. Fingers crossed we can close out the game if we get ahead this evening! The draw for the next round has been completed and we now know the winner will face Cirencester Town FC. This would be another good fixture and it would be great to extend our time in the competition and this would be the furthest we have gone in our short history of playing in the FA Cup. I hope we get another exciting cup tie this evening and you all enjoy yourselves. Lastly, when leaving this evening please be mindful of the local residents. From time to time, they rightly complain about speeding traffic and noise when leaving matches and so please consider this after the game this evening. Best wishes Richard Meadows Chairman

EASINGTON SPORTS FOOTBALL CLUB

Good evening and welcome to Addison Road, The players put in a good battling performance on Saturday and went toe to toe with a step 4 side who have mid-table aspirations. Overall we have to be happy with a draw away from home to higher league opposition, however, there remains a hint of disappointment amongst the group knowing that we led the game three times. We have shown great character to earn a replay but we now have to back that up with another good performance at the very least. We will take confidence and belief from the performance on Saturday and go again tonight with the same endeavour. Our squad is getting stronger as we move into the season with players beginning to filter back from injuries but we are still without some important players. Lewis Baldwin adds to this list having suffered a re-occurrence of an ankle issue he has been nursing throughout pre-season and the early competitive games. The squad in general is now beginning to gel with lots of new faces in the group which will hopefully stand us in good stead as we continue to strive for improvement. We are well aware of the threats Cinderford pose and despite our performance and efforts on Saturday, they were able to match us. They will have been disappointed with the result and I am sure we will be up against a team with a point to prove which will make for a difficult task. We will prepare properly to play against a step 4 side who have the ability to dominate possession and punish any defensive lapses. Good luck to Cinderford for the season ahead. Best Regards

Matt Giles Manager

MATCH REPORT Cinderford Town AFC 3 v 3 Easington Sports FC Sports to replay against higher league opposition. Easington Sports FC travelled to Southern League Cinderford Town AFC but having taken the lead on three occasions will feel disappointed but confident in coming to a replay. Sports went into the game without Joshua Bowden, Piers Walton and Elliott Barton. Matty Crowther was also ineligible so the impressive Adam Doyle continued in goal. Sports had a clear game plan and it worked immediately. The impressive, and rapid, Adam Taylor was put through to knock the ball round the keeper and tap home from two yards into an empty net after 4 minutes. Dream start. Cinderford equalised midway through the first half after a cross was headed down to the Cinderford striker who finished. The second half continued in similar fashion. Sports looked deadly on the break, but also dominated play at times and created a number of chances. They were rewarded when more great work down the right saw a cross deflected in by the dejected Cinderford right back. Cinderford equalised again when Morford finished on 82 minutes. The excitement continued as Sports piled on the pressure. Following a corner the ball came to Henry Rose who finished on 89 minutes. With 5 minutes added time the impressive number 10 for Cinderford Town drove forwards. The ball worked its way to the left and deflected passed Doyle off Cox. Sports reacted well and could have won it. The ball fell to Swann just 6 yards out who as he was being closed down hit the ball narrowly over the bar. Credit must go to the management team who had watched Cinderford Town FC and a clear game plan worked well. The replay takes place this Tuesday

EASINGTON SPORTS FOOTBALL CLUB

EASINGTON SPORTS FC HISTORY The Club was formed in the immediate post-war period of 1945/46 to fulfill the sporting and social needs of the young people of the Easington housing estate in Banbury, many of who were returning from war service. The Club, then known as ‘The Clan’, soon prospered, as there was an obvious need for such a facility, and formed a cricket, tennis and a ladies section. Football was, however, the main branch of the Club’s activity, and they began playing in the local Junior Leagues as Easington Sports F.C. The football was played on pastureland to the west of Wykham Lane, and for a few years endured the lack of facilities enjoyed today by almost all clubs. (No water available on site, no real changing facilities to name but two of the privations to be met on a cold winter’s afternoon). Fortunately, this situation was soon to change, for as a result of tireless fund raising by all concerned and some dedicated work by stalwarts such as Gordon Vivash, Tim Fountain and many other committed club members, the prospect of a new ground owned by the Club became a reality. The purchase of the Addison Road ground and the building of a clubroom, together with the Club’s entry to the Oxfordshire Senior League was the beginning of senior football for Sports, and to their credit they proved to be a formidable force at that level. (Becoming winners and finalists in the Senior Cup and heading the Premier League table on two occasions in the early and mid-fifties). In view of their success at county level the Club sought entry, and was accepted into the old Warwickshire Combination, which at that time counted professional and semiprofessional teams. (Aston Villa ‘A’, West Bromwich Albion ‘B’ and teams which now grace the Conference as members). Although having moderate success in this competition, as with many other amateur clubs; finance played its part in the decision to return to the Oxfordshire Senior League, where the expenses, in particular travelling, were much more in line with the club’s limited income. Looking to raise their standards once more, the Club sought entry to the Hellenic League. Subject to certain ground improvements they were readily accepted, and have remained as members of Division One ever since. With some ‘ups and downs’, Sport’s have almost always been mid-table at the end of each season, which, considering their amateur status against mostly professional or well-sponsored opponents has not been too bad a record. The Club has always sought to give the youngsters of Banbury and district an opportunity to get into senior football, and indeed beyond, and has continually run youth teams at various age levels. Wishing all those whose ability took them to higher levels good luck, and feeling grateful that the club gave them the start/plat- form to their careers. It has sometimes been said that Easington Sports have not been ambitious or forward looking enough in their sixty years, but shrewd and cautious stewardship by series of committees over the years have ensured that the club has never overreached itself financially, and has remained faithful to its original ideals to provide football of a good standard for local youth. In 2019 the club were awarded Community Charter Standard Status and currently have 35 affiliated teams. Our youth teams include both boys and girls and our open age section now includes three male, two female and a pan disability squad. We remain committed to providing those in the local community with a pathway into football. Our lateral movement into the UCLS for 2021 /2022 provides a welcome new challenge.

EASINGTON SPORTS FOOTBALL CLUB

Cinderford Town History Cinderford Town was formed in 1922 and played in the Gloucester Northern Senior League until 1939. In that year they joined the newly formed Bristol Charity League but this folded two weeks later at the outbreak of World War Two. In 1957 they won the title but the two seasons they spend in the top flight put severe financial pressure on the club, who were forced to withdraw and return to the Gloucester Northern Senior League. Three years later the club made the unusual decision to join the Warwickshire Combination and won a league and cup double in 1964, which saw them step up to the West Midlands (Regional) League. Cinderford returned to play in the newly formed Gloucestershire County League for the 1969-70 season and stayed for the next five years, finishing as runners-up on three occasions, but again sought a higher standard of football and were accepted into the Midland Football Combination. Town played in this league for the next 10 seasons, achieving a best finish of 4th, before being forced to withdraw and return to the Gloucestershire County League after more financial problems. In the 1990-91 season the club gained admission to the Hellenic League, initially in Division One, where they won the league championship at the first attempt. Four years later the club claimed the Premier Division title and stepped up to the Southern League, where they remain to this day. The 1995–96 season saw Cinderford reach the first round of the FA Cup for the first time. After beating Bromsgrove Rovers 2–1, they lost 3–0 at Gravesend & Northfleet in a second round replay. In the 2015-16 season, they were champions of the Southern League Division One South & West but initially rejected promotion on financial grounds. However, they were forced to accept promotion, in June 2016, following a series of appeals which affected the constitution of the Southern League heading into the new season. The club were relegated in their first season in the Southern Premier League, returning to play in the Southern League West Division once again.
