THE CHAIRMAN Good afternoon all, Welcome to Addison Road for our game against Cogenhoe United today. We would especially like to welcome our visitors who, to my knowledge, we have not ever faced before! The game today is the first of 3 home matches over the next seven days and all 3 games are going to be tough tests for the team. We faced high flying Newport Pagnell mid-week and I thought the side put on a decent team displayt. I counted 13 players who I know Matt would like to call upon for first team action who were unavailable due to injury and personal circumstances and so it was a great effort to push the promotion contenders close. A late goal scuppered our chances of picking up an unlikely point. I would also like to acknowledge the excellent link up between all 3 of our adult teams at this point. A number of players were brought through into the first team for this game from the development squad and it just goes to show that our plans are working well as more young Banbury lads got further experience at this level of football which can only be a good thing. Unfortunately, we also suffered another two injuries in the game with young Harvey Billings finishing the evening at Coventry A & E after damaging ligaments in his ankle. We wish him well and hope for a speedy recovery as he has had a really positive effect on the team. Fingers crossed Matt will gradually get more players back into the squad over the coming weeks so that we can be more competitive in the matches leading into Autumn. I do hope we have an entertaining game on our hands this afternoon. Although I know very little about our opposition, I am sure they will have looked at our recent results and will be looking to pick up points themselves which sets the game up nicely. Please do have a great afternoon here with us and have a safe journey home. Best wishes Richard Meadows Chairman

Good afternoon and welcome to Addison Road, Despite Newport Pagnell creating a lot of early chances on Tuesday evening, I felt the young team we fielded worked tirelessly and grew into the game. We scored a well earned equaliser having been without the ball for large parts of the evening and ultimately ended up disappointed when we conceded so close to the final whistle. The strength of character that the young team showed throughout the game is very encouraging, especially on the back of what was a big and disappointing defeat last Saturday. While the availability of some important players is welcomed today, we are still without others and we added to that injury list on Tuesday night. Unfortunately at the moment it is a case of 2 in and 2 out every game basically. Every player available is expected to dig deep and although there will still continue to be changes to personnel, we hope that our messages are beginning to become more clear to the players when they are available. Cogenhoe have started the season in similar form to us so today's game should be an interesting one. Good luck to Cogenhoe for the season ahead. Best Regards
Matt Giles Manager

MATCH REPORT Easington Sports FC 1 v 2 NPT FC Sports lose in last minute when down to 10. Sports tough start to the season continued which was compounded by the loss of Harvey Billing to injury and Bradley Cox now facing suspension However, Sports can take great belief from the second half performance, especially when down to 10 men and should feel disappointed with the late defeat. Newport Pagnell started brightly and caused the Sports defence all sorts of problems down the left hand side with Mo Ahmed a constant threat. NPTFC missed a golden chance from one yard out which somehow the striker managed to spoon over the bar. Whilst NPTFC created plenty of early chances, Sports also had Connor Duggan clean through only for a last ditch challenge to prevent him from tapping into an open net. Newport took the lead when Cox tried to shepherd the ball out of play only to be dispossessed for the striker to cross and the shot squirmed underneath Doyle. Cox was booked for his protests. Just after the restart, Peters replaced Duggan and looked lively. However, Billings then injured his ankle whilst striking the ball as he followed through onto the foot of a NPTFC player. There was then an unsavoury moment as the NPTFC captain tried to drag Harvey from the pitch whilst clearly injured. Sports were galvanised by this. However they suffered another set back when Tom Smith was fouled by the NPTFC striker. The referee awarded Sports correctly a free kick however on being surround by the NPTFC he changed his mind. Cox protested and got a second yellow. Sports deservedly equalised after great work on the right by Taylor saw him cross for Swann to tap home. Unfortunately they couldn’t hold on as Newport obtained a last minute winner.

EASINGTON SPORTS FOOTBALL CLUB
EASINGTON SPORTS FC HISTORY The Club was formed in the immediate post-war period of 1945/46 to fulfill the sporting and social needs of the young people of the Easington housing estate in Banbury, many of who were returning from war service. The Club, then known as ‘The Clan’, soon prospered, as there was an obvious need for such a facility, and formed a cricket, tennis and a ladies section. Football was, however, the main branch of the Club’s activity, and they began playing in the local Junior Leagues as Easington Sports F.C. The football was played on pastureland to the west of Wykham Lane, and for a few years endured the lack of facilities enjoyed today by almost all clubs. (No water available on site, no real changing facilities to name but two of the privations to be met on a cold winter’s afternoon). Fortunately, this situation was soon to change, for as a result of tireless fund raising by all concerned and some dedicated work by stalwarts such as Gordon Vivash, Tim Fountain and many other committed club members, the prospect of a new ground owned by the Club became a reality. The purchase of the Addison Road ground and the building of a clubroom, together with the Club’s entry to the Oxfordshire Senior League was the beginning of senior football for Sports, and to their credit they proved to be a formidable force at that level. (Becoming winners and finalists in the Senior Cup and heading the Premier League table on two occasions in the early and mid-fifties). In view of their success at county level the Club sought entry, and was accepted into the old Warwickshire Combination, which at that time counted professional and semiprofessional teams. (Aston Villa ‘A’, West Bromwich Albion ‘B’ and teams which now grace the Conference as members). Although having moderate success in this competition, as with many other amateur clubs; finance played its part in the decision to return to the Oxfordshire Senior League, where the expenses, in particular travelling, were much more in line with the club’s limited income. Looking to raise their standards once more, the Club sought entry to the Hellenic League. Subject to certain ground improvements they were readily accepted, and have remained as members of Division One ever since. With some ‘ups and downs’, Sport’s have almost always been mid-table at the end of each season, which, considering their amateur status against mostly professional or well-sponsored opponents has not been too bad a record. The Club has always sought to give the youngsters of Banbury and district an opportunity to get into senior football, and indeed beyond, and has continually run youth teams at various age levels. Wishing all those whose ability took them to higher levels good luck, and feeling grateful that the club gave them the start/plat- form to their careers. It has sometimes been said that Easington Sports have not been ambitious or forward looking enough in their sixty years, but shrewd and cautious stewardship by series of committees over the years have ensured that the club has never overreached itself financially, and has remained faithful to its original ideals to provide football of a good standard for local youth. In 2019 the club were awarded Community Charter Standard Status and currently have 35 affiliated teams. Our youth teams include both boys and girls and our open age section now includes three male, two female and a pan disability squad. We remain committed to providing those in the local community with a pathway into football. Our lateral movement into the UCLS for 2021 /2022 provides a welcome new challenge.

EASINGTON SPORTS FOOTBALL CLUB
The club shield was derived from the Coat of Arms of the de Cogenhoe family who were the village squires from 100 AD. The original colours were red and silver cross pieces and diamonds, however we have adopted blue and gold as our colours. The early days of Cogenhoe were not documented and are now obscured by the mist of time. Inter village friendlies gradually led to membership of the now extinct Central Village League. As typical with village football, a variety of pitches were ‘home’ until in 1950 the first game, against Northampton Yeomanry, was played on the then new playing field. After some modest success, United ceased to exist sometime after 1958, to be reformed as the current club for the 1967/68 football season, competing in the Central Northants Football Combination. By 1978 the club had progressed from the Second Division into the Premier Division. In a six year period thirteen winners’ and six runners-up trophies were won. Development of facilities became paramount to enable promotion into the United Counties Football League. We secured the lease on 3.6 acres of agricultural land from the Marquis of Northampton, Compton Park was now on the map, new purpose built facilities were developed together with a spectator stand which gained us promotion into the UCFL for the season 1985/86. The first competitive match was the final match in the Central Combination, when we defeated Bugbrooke St.Michaels 1-0 with Jason Moore scoring the first goal on this ground. On 17th August 1985 Cogenhoe United played their first UCFL game losing at home to Mirlees Blackstone. Cogenhoe were forced to apply for re-election and Dave Conlon took over the helm in the summer of 1986. Compton Park was officially opened when Ron Atkinson, then manager of Manchester United brought a team to play in the inaugural game. Cogenhoe gained promotion to the Premier Division at the end of Dave Conlon’s first season finishing runners-up to Baker Perkins. Stephen Brockwell who succeeded ex Liverpool and England full, back, Phil Neal as President, ensured facilities were met and promotion was gained. A youth policy was adopted beginning a trend of supplying quality players to the senior teams, with Darren Harmon and Darren Bazeley progressing into the professional game. Matthew Murphy also made this progression via Corby Town. The club entered the F.A. Vase for the first time in Season 1988/89, at the end of this season Brian Foley stepped down as Chairman after 21 years loyal service, this achievement was recognised by being elected a Vice President of the United Counties Football League. Derek Wright took over as Chairman and immediately set up a major fund raising campaign to ensure floodlighting was erected in 1992 and ensured senior status was maintained. This was achieved to mark the club’s Silver Jubilee in that year. An under 18’s youth side was elected to the Northamptonshire Senior Youth League in Season 1991/92 and won the Championship at the first attempt. Further land was obtained and further youth pitches were developed. We entered the F.A. Cup for the first time in 1994/95. After an extremely successful 13 years at the helm Dave Conlon retired as manager prior to the commencement of the 1997/98 season and Steve Forbes took over the reigns with Dino Cirrelli assisting. In the subsequent three seasons Steve and Dino guided the team to further success culminating the most successful campaign in the history of the club. Runners- up in the UCFL Premier Division, winners of the UCFL Knock Out Cup and Buckingham Charity Cup and runners-up in the Daventry Charity Cup. In the Northants Senior Youth League our under 18’s were not to be outdone by winning the League Knockout Cup and finishing Runners-up in the League. After a 3 year spell in charge Steve Forbes stepped down and former cobblers & Rushden and Diamonds midfielder Aidy Mann took over team affairs. Aidys first season incharge saw the team finish a credible third. Following the loss of many of the squad to local rivals Newport Pagnell, the Cooks ended the 2002/03 season mid table. As a result Former Northampton Town midfielder Adam Sandy was appointed asfirst team coach with former Cooks stalwort Dino Cirelli as his assistant. They finished the 2003/04 season in sixth place and runners up in the Daventry Charity Cup, Dino Cirelli retired due to other work commitments. In the the following season 2004/05 Dave Jones stepped up from reserve team coach to assist Adam Sandy at the reins The end of the season finished with Cogenhoe playing Potton (1st vs 2nd) A winner takes all game, with cogenhoe only requiring a draw to clinch there first ucl title. The game ended 2-2 giving the ucl championship to Cogenhoe. During the 2005/06 season Cogenhoe acheived their best ever run in the FA Cup eventually loosing in extra time in a replay to Chasetown 4-3. Chase Town went on to play Oldham in the first round proper. In the 2006/07 Season the “Cooks” equaled their best ever run in the FA vase going out to Causeway United after extra time in the fourth round. At the end of the season Cogenhoe United announce the appointment of Darren Collins as 1st Team Manager, following the resignation of Adam Sandy. There were strong bids made by four other applicants, but Darren’s pedigree stood out, with 2 decades of experience as a player in the football league and higher reaches of non league football, including 2 seasons at Cogenhoe in our championship winning side during which time he scored 50 goals.
