THE

CHAIRMAN

Good afternoon everybody and welcome to Addison Road this afternoon. The games continue to come thick and fast and so today we welcome everybody from Harborough Town FC who are based in Leicestershire. We are all very keen to get our first season in the United Counties Premier Division up and running and I am sure we are going to be in for a stern test this afternoon against a top 10 side in the old format of the league. I am sure other teams have been searching through social media to find out who Easington Sports are since we have joined the league and we are doing the same! Harborough Town have some fantastic facilities, and I for one, will be keen to find out more about their journey as this would be something for us to emulate over the years. For Harborough Town supporters, we own our site and continue to be in regular dialogue with the Cherwell District Council to find ways to better the facilities we have which might lead to a relocation at some stage… As a committee, management team and group of players, we are certainly venturing into the unknown for this season. Unfortunately we have to bid farewell to the Hellenic Division after the restructuring of the Step 5 football shifted this league towards the West Country and towards Bristol and Somerset. Our Secretary Jamie Hunter put forward a very factual and compelling case during our appeal and we were given the choice of leagues to join after the FA agreed with our case. We are opted for UCPS division which will reduce travelling time and will save us over 1000 miles on the road. There are a number of clubs within the league with aspirations to be promoted into the Southern League and so I hope we can remain competitive in this new league. We would very much like to keep to our development plan model which includes providing a pathways for talented youngsters into non-league football and step 5 football is an important part of this plan. Lastly, I hope we have enough players for the game today! We have had a disastrous pre-season with COVID, injuries and Cricket all playing a part in player unavailability. We were delighted to get through our FA CUP extra Preliminary Round on Tuesday, however, we did this with 10 players missing from the original first team squad. I am hoping that a few more players will be back for the game today. We also welcome James Watts from Wantage Town into the squad who I am sure will add some real quality to the midfield. I therefore hope that you enjoy the match this afternoon and do have a safe journey home. Richard Meadows Chairman

Good afternoon The players were buoyant after Tuesday night's FA Cup penalty shootout win but we are all now really looking forward to getting started in the league and are focused on what is in front of us. We are glad our appeal was upheld as this will make a big difference to our travel times over the course of the season, however it does leave us in uncharted territory as we have little knowledge of the new teams we are going to be coming up against. My staff and I will have our work cut out early on to gather lots of information on these teams and understand the challenges that lie ahead; something we have already begun to do. I said after Tuesday's game that I was pleased with the effort and grit we have shown over the two FA Cup games despite our injury list; this is something we need to continue to show as we still have six players unavailable. We welcome back a couple of players to the squad which is great news but then lose a couple for this weekend too. We also welcome James Watts as a new signing who will be a great addition over time; hopefully he can bed in quickly and hit the ground running. I am really pleased with the squad and we now have good competition in most positions. Harborough have started the season in great form scoring six goals and conceding zero in their first two competitive games. This shows good strength at either end of the pitch and will pose a big challenge for us. They finished 8th in their respective league last season having played twelve games so with this in mind and their early season form, today will be a proper test for us and a good indicator of the strength of our new league. I wish all involved at Harborough Town good luck for the season.

MATCH REPORT Wokingham and Emmbrook FC 0 v 0 Easington Sports FC (3-4 PENS) Sports progress to the next round. Easington Sports FC continued their FA Cup journey with a dramatic penalty win over Wokingham and Emmbrook. Sports went into Tuesdays replay in the strange position of hosting once again with the W and E ground unavailable. With 10 players missing from the first team squad this was an added bonus especially in front of an impressive crowd. As with the first game it was a game of few chances. Both teams will feel that they could and maybe should have won it during the normal period or extra time. Sports then sparked scenes of celebration as they progressed with a 4-3 win. Impressive performances were put in by all players but many from the Development squad stood up including veteran Andrew Stidder and keeper Adam Doyle. Sports now face AFC Cinderford on the 21st August 2021 away from home.

EASINGTON SPORTS FOOTBALL CLUB

EASINGTON SPORTS FC HISTORY The Club was formed in the immediate post-war period of 1945/46 to fulfill the sporting and social needs of the young people of the Easington housing estate in Banbury, many of who were returning from war service. The Club, then known as ‘The Clan’, soon prospered, as there was an obvious need for such a facility, and formed a cricket, tennis and a ladies section. Football was, however, the main branch of the Club’s activity, and they began playing in the local Junior Leagues as Easington Sports F.C. The football was played on pastureland to the west of Wykham Lane, and for a few years endured the lack of facilities enjoyed today by almost all clubs. (No water available on site, no real changing facilities to name but two of the privations to be met on a cold winter’s afternoon). Fortunately, this situation was soon to change, for as a result of tireless fund raising by all concerned and some dedicated work by stalwarts such as Gordon Vivash, Tim Fountain and many other committed club members, the prospect of a new ground owned by the Club became a reality. The purchase of the Addison Road ground and the building of a clubroom, together with the Club’s entry to the Oxfordshire Senior League was the beginning of senior football for Sports, and to their credit they proved to be a formidable force at that level. (Becoming winners and finalists in the Senior Cup and heading the Premier League table on two occasions in the early and mid-fifties). In view of their success at county level the Club sought entry, and was accepted into the old Warwickshire Combination, which at that time counted professional and semiprofessional teams. (Aston Villa ‘A’, West Bromwich Albion ‘B’ and teams which now grace the Conference as members). Although having moderate success in this competition, as with many other amateur clubs; finance played its part in the decision to return to the Oxfordshire Senior League, where the expenses, in particular travelling, were much more in line with the club’s limited income. Looking to raise their standards once more, the Club sought entry to the Hellenic League. Subject to certain ground improvements they were readily accepted, and have remained as members of Division One ever since. With some ‘ups and downs’, Sport’s have almost always been mid-table at the end of each season, which, considering their amateur status against mostly professional or well-sponsored opponents has not been too bad a record. The Club has always sought to give the youngsters of Banbury and district an opportunity to get into senior football, and indeed beyond, and has continually run youth teams at various age levels. Wishing all those whose ability took them to higher levels good luck, and feeling grateful that the club gave them the start/plat- form to their careers. It has sometimes been said that Easington Sports have not been ambitious or forward looking enough in their sixty years, but shrewd and cautious stewardship by series of committees over the years have ensured that the club has never overreached itself financially, and has remained faithful to its original ideals to provide football of a good standard for local youth. In 2019 the club were awarded Community Charter Standard Status and currently have 35 affiliated teams. Our youth teams include both boys and girls and our open age section now includes three male, two female and a pan disability squad. We remain committed to providing those in the local community with a pathway into football. Our lateral movement into the UCLS for 2021 /2022 provides a welcome new challenge.

EASINGTON SPORTS FOOTBALL CLUB

Harborough Town F.C. Harborough Town F.C is the realisation of the merger of Harborough Town Juniors, Harborough Town Spencers and Harborough Minis in 2007, which created one club for all ages, gender and ability for the Market Harborough community. We are based in Market Harborough, where our impressive facilities cater for all of the club’s teams. The club became an FA Charter Standard Club in 2004 and through consistent development has achieved FA Charter Standard Community Club status which is the highest accolade currently available and recognises best practice, on-going development and a positive impact within the local community. The club currently has teams that include Minis, Girls, Junior, Youth, Ladies, Inclusive, Senior and Veteran sides. Harborough Town Juniors was formed in 1975, running teams from U11 to U16. After initially playing at Symington’s, they developed facilities on Northampton Road in the 1990s. However, there was a desire to have senior football for the youngsters to move on to, and consequently they formed links with Spencers United, and in 2007 they merged with Harborough Town Spencers, as they had become called. In the early 2000s Harborough Minis had been formed to cater for U11s, and in 2007 they also joined the merger to create Harborough Town FC. After three seasons in the Northants Combination, managed by Andy ‘Stan’ Wilson, the club won promotion the UCL by winning the Premier Division. On 14 August 2010 Market Harborough witnessed the return of UCL football for the first time since Symington’s FC’s last game in 1954, and by 2012 ‘The Bees’, as they had become known, had won promotion to the UCL Premier Division. In the early years of HTFC the Northampton Road ground had seen much improvement, with a new clubhouse, first team pitch, two stands and a 3G artificial pitch. The Bowden’s Park ground had become a fine ground, but in 2018 the installation of a Class 1 artificial pitch (3G), funded by Market Harborough District Council, a Stadium Improvement Grant and the Football Foundation, saw the creation of The Harborough Town Community Football Ground. This was officially opened on 1 November 2018 with a game against an FA Representative XI, coached by England C Manager Paul Fairclough. All areas of the club are thriving, with the senior side having completed a decade in the UCL. The aborted Covid-19 seasons saw us have good starts, reflecting the clubs on field progress. During those seasons HTFC had over 40 sides, covering all types and genders of football in the community. In 2020 experienced UCL manager Mitch Austin joined the club. After 9 years of steady progress at Step 5 HTFC is ambitious for progression within the FA Pyramid.
