EASINGTON SPORTS FOOTBALL CLUB

THE CHAIRMAN Good afternoon and welcome to Addison Road. the weather is set fair and so I hope you are also looking forward to enjoying the game in unusually dry and warmer than average conditions. Although this time last year, we knew the inevitable break from football was just around the corner due to the Pandemic, we had also experienced postponed matches due to heavy rain. Fingers crossed, we can enjoy an undisrupted run up to the festive period as we know our pitch often experiences flooding around the new year. On paper, it looks like we have another great game on offer today between two sides who seem well matched. We are nearly halfway through the season and although our visitors today have played less matches, I think both will be looking at this fixture as an opportunity to pick up more points to move up the table. Matt seems to have a more settled squad to pick from and there is good competition for places. I watched the development side last week and there are more players knocking on the door of the first team and this can only be healthy and can encourage players to raise their game. We have certainly struggled to put together an unbeaten run in the league this year and so hopefully we can get something from the game today to build another run. As things settle down in the adult section after a relentless run of mid-week games, there is still plenty to do off the pitch. Ground grading improvements need to be completed by March 31st 2022 and so I have begun the planning for the last improvements that we need to upgrade to be up to standard. Notable improvements include the extension to the canopies behind the goal nearest to the clubhouse and the extension of the spectator barrier at the far end of the ground to allow people to view right to the corner of the ground. We have certainly noticed the step up in standards in the United Counties with regards to grounds with many in my opinion, fit for step 4 and higher football. The improvements we need to make will hopefully benefit those who attend our matches on a regular basis. There are some things we cannot fix… which includes the clubhouse! That said, we will do what we can to make your experience an enjoyable one and so please do feedback to us if you have any other suggestions for improvement. For now, I hope you enjoy the afternoon and that we have an entertaining game ahead of us. Please be respectful of the local neighbours on your way home and have a safe journey home!

Best wishes Richard Meadows Chairman

EASINGTON SPORTS FOOTBALL CLUB

Good afternoon and welcome to Addison Road, I thought we were unfortunate against Hinckley last Tuesday evening. Prior to Joe White's sending off, although we had conceded from some sloppy play, we were more than a match for the opposition. Following the sending off, once we were able to regroup at half time, I thought we contained the opposition very well and although we struggles to create any real chances on goal, we were able to maintain some good periods of possession. Last Saturday, we started brightly but too quickly allowed Wellingborough to get a foot hold in the game despite limiting their chances. We reacted well in the second half and showed good intensity without the ball and better intent with it. Overall, I think we are in a better place following our last three games and performances than we have been all season. We have added some identity to the way we play and the group are showing more desire and intensity. Being able to train has been a bonus this week as we had been able to get some clear messages to the group and hopefully this will help us continue the good form that we find ourselves in. There are still improvements to be made and the expectation will remain high so that we can work towards achieving these. We have ambitious targets for this month which we need to continue to strive towards. We continue to battle through an injury list but having made some new signings, we now have good strength in-depth throughout the squad. Potton's league position is false in my opinion having followed their result and performances since the start of the season. They have been performing well and they will be expecting to rise up the table by continuing this. Similarly, although I do not believe our league position is false, due to a lacklustre start to the season, I do believe we are capable of holding a higher position if we can add consistency to our performances. Good luck to Potton for the rest of the season.

MATCH REPORT Wellingborough Town FC 0 v 0 Easington Sports FC Sports pick up valuable point on the road Game of few chances for both teams Matt Giles will be pleased with a clean sheet and an away point Although in truth neither side created too much in a stalemate. In an even first half, Sports had some early chances with a blocked shot by Lucas Northover and an effort from Alex Stott which was tipped round the post. The hosts had plenty of the ball and created some pressure but Joe White was rarely forced into action. James Watts went off at half time as a concussion concern and the second half continued in a similar vain to the first. Sports looked to play out from the back and a mistake forced White to make his first meaningful save. Sports looked to hit on the counter attack and a quick sharp break saw Walton put clear through on the right hand side. His shot was excellent saved by the Wellingborough keeper. The game became scrappy in the second half but Sports will feel pleased with a clean sheet and an away point even if they weren’t at their fluent best.

EASINGTON SPORTS FOOTBALL CLUB

EASINGTON SPORTS FC HISTORY The Club was formed in the immediate post-war period of 1945/46 to fulfill the sporting and social needs of the young people of the Easington housing estate in Banbury, many of who were returning from war service. The Club, then known as ‘The Clan’, soon prospered, as there was an obvious need for such a facility, and formed a cricket, tennis and a ladies section. Football was, however, the main branch of the Club’s activity, and they began playing in the local Junior Leagues as Easington Sports F.C. The football was played on pastureland to the west of Wykham Lane, and for a few years endured the lack of facilities enjoyed today by almost all clubs. (No water available on site, no real changing facilities to name but two of the privations to be met on a cold winter’s afternoon). Fortunately, this situation was soon to change, for as a result of tireless fund raising by all concerned and some dedicated work by stalwarts such as Gordon Vivash, Tim Fountain and many other committed club members, the prospect of a new ground owned by the Club became a reality. The purchase of the Addison Road ground and the building of a clubroom, together with the Club’s entry to the Oxfordshire Senior League was the beginning of senior football for Sports, and to their credit they proved to be a formidable force at that level. (Becoming winners and finalists in the Senior Cup and heading the Premier League table on two occasions in the early and mid-fifties). In view of their success at county level the Club sought entry, and was accepted into the old Warwickshire Combination, which at that time counted professional and semiprofessional teams. (Aston Villa ‘A’, West Bromwich Albion ‘B’ and teams which now grace the Conference as members). Although having moderate success in this competition, as with many other amateur clubs; finance played its part in the decision to return to the Oxfordshire Senior League, where the expenses, in particular travelling, were much more in line with the club’s limited income. Looking to raise their standards once more, the Club sought entry to the Hellenic League. Subject to certain ground improvements they were readily accepted, and have remained as members of Division One ever since. With some ‘ups and downs’, Sport’s have almost always been mid-table at the end of each season, which, considering their amateur status against mostly professional or well-sponsored opponents has not been too bad a record. The Club has always sought to give the youngsters of Banbury and district an opportunity to get into senior football, and indeed beyond, and has continually run youth teams at various age levels. Wishing all those whose ability took them to higher levels good luck, and feeling grateful that the club gave them the start/plat- form to their careers. It has sometimes been said that Easington Sports have not been ambitious or forward looking enough in their sixty years, but shrewd and cautious stewardship by series of committees over the years have ensured that the club has never overreached itself financially, and has remained faithful to its original ideals to provide football of a good standard for local youth. In 2019 the club were awarded Community Charter Standard Status and currently have 35 affiliated teams. Our youth teams include both boys and girls and our open age section now includes three male, two female and a pan disability squad. We remain committed to providing those in the local community with a pathway into football. Our lateral movement into the UCLS for 2021 /2022 provides a welcome new challenge.

Steve Kuhne resigns at the end of the season and Laurence Revell returns to the club as manager. 2019-20 – Jimmy Martin joins management team as coach then takes over when Revell resigns in February. Reached final of Bedfordshire Senior Cup but the season was abandoned in March due to global pandemic Coronavirus. 2020-21 – another season abandoned due to Coronavirus.
