THE CHAIRMAN Good afternoon everybody and welcome to Addison Road today where we will be hosting Rothwell Corinthians today. It was nice to have a break from home matches after our FA Cup run and a busy schedule of league fixtures… however, it is even better to see you again today for what I hope will be another entertaining encounter. We were certainly not short of entertainment mid-week after an encouraging win away at Long Buckby. Although the weather played a part, it was another good performance going forward and we deserved the victory which was a great boost for the players and management. It has been an all too familiar story this season for Manager Matt Giles and myself to bemoan unavailability and injuries in our programme notes. It is therefore nice to see a number of players returning to the squad and there is now real competition for places again which can only be a good thing. A special mention must also go out to all the managers of the adult section who have worked well together to ensure there are enough players in each of our 3 adult squads. It also seems to be working well allowing injured players to get much needed minutes as they return to fitness. This is something we have been striving for as a club for a number of years and has worked very well over the last 2 months or so. It is great news to see Harry Walter and Jake Peters in around the first team today. 2 seasons ago they were both playing in the Junior Leagues and so this is a testament to the way things are working. It was good to see that Jake scored a brace mid-week and Harry was an influential energetic figure up front also. Promoting youth and local players is one of our aims for the season and so we are all very encouraged with the progress. Looking ahead to the fixture today I am sure Rothwell will be look at our league position and will be thinking there is a chance to pick up points against ourselves. I hope we can continue our goal scoring form into the game today and our opposition also look to score so that we can have a great game to watch on this warmer than usual October afternoon. Please do make the most of our clubhouse refreshments and if you are a ground hopper, we do have pin badges for your collections… just ask at the bar. I hope you have a safe journey home Best wishes Richard Meadows Chairman

EASINGTON SPORTS FOOTBALL CLUB

Good afternoon and welcome to Addison Road, Following our home victory against Coventry United, despite our lacklustre performance against London Colney in the FA Vase, our league form has continued to be satisfactory. We deserved to win against Godmanchester last Saturday and although we only managed to gain a point, we made good strides in settling the team in regards to understanding our shape and individual roles within it. Tuesday's attacking performance away to Long Buckby was very pleasing, however, conceding four goals was not. Complacency crept into our performance towards the end of the game and could have cost us all three points. It is evident from both of these games that we need to be better at seeing games out. We have set some small in-house targets for October and have made a good start to achieving these. We have a much healthier squad now than we have had previously and we see October as a month where we can climb the table. I am still cautious that despite much better availability, we might not see the best of our form immediately as the team now needs some time to settle before it flourishes. Rothwell have had a mixed start to the season and although they sit below us in the table, we will not be fooled by this. Their results show that they are always involved in close games and they can certainly score goals. We need to be concerned by ourselves however and focus on continued improvement towards where we want to be. Good luck to Rothwell Corinthians for the rest of the season. Best Regards

Matt Giles Manager

MATCH REPORT Long Buckby AFC 4 v 5 Easington Sports FC Sports claim three points on the road. 9 goals in horrible wet and windy conditions. Sports dominated against Long Buckby and scored 5 but credit goes to the hosts who came back at the end to make the last 5 minutes tense. Olly Goddard came into the side having recently joined and Sports got off to a great start. In horrible wet and windy conditions, captain Joe Eyre released Jake Peters down the left who calmly finished past the Buckby keeper. Sports pressure continued and on an excellent surface they played some decent football. The second came soon after when a whipped in cross was deflected into his own net by the Buckby defender. Against the run of play Buckby capitalised on a miss hit clearance when the midfielder curled a long range effort past Joe White. Sports tho quickly regained their two goal load when from a corner Olly Goddard forced the ball home. In the second half it was more of the same. Another excellent move this time down the right, with shouts of shoot from the travelling Clan, Jake Peters chipped the keeper brilliantly. However once again Buckby came back into it with a whipped in cross brilliantly headed home at the far post. With 15 minutes to go Michael O’Regan seemed to have killed the game off with a trademark towering header from a corner – his third of the season. However, Buckby once again pegged Sports back with another excellent long range shot. With ten minutes to go Sports were down to 10 men as Olly Goddard received treatment. It was another whipped in cross from the left which was forced home to make it 5-4 and set up a tense finish. Sports were comfortable in the end but will feel that this game should have been controlled better when in such commanding positions during the game. Credit goes to the hosts who never gave up and made it an entertaining 9 goal game. The travelling Clan were out in force which was great to see – with flags proudly on show.

EASINGTON SPORTS FOOTBALL CLUB

EASINGTON SPORTS FC HISTORY The Club was formed in the immediate post-war period of 1945/46 to fulfill the sporting and social needs of the young people of the Easington housing estate in Banbury, many of who were returning from war service. The Club, then known as ‘The Clan’, soon prospered, as there was an obvious need for such a facility, and formed a cricket, tennis and a ladies section. Football was, however, the main branch of the Club’s activity, and they began playing in the local Junior Leagues as Easington Sports F.C. The football was played on pastureland to the west of Wykham Lane, and for a few years endured the lack of facilities enjoyed today by almost all clubs. (No water available on site, no real changing facilities to name but two of the privations to be met on a cold winter’s afternoon). Fortunately, this situation was soon to change, for as a result of tireless fund raising by all concerned and some dedicated work by stalwarts such as Gordon Vivash, Tim Fountain and many other committed club members, the prospect of a new ground owned by the Club became a reality. The purchase of the Addison Road ground and the building of a clubroom, together with the Club’s entry to the Oxfordshire Senior League was the beginning of senior football for Sports, and to their credit they proved to be a formidable force at that level. (Becoming winners and finalists in the Senior Cup and heading the Premier League table on two occasions in the early and mid-fifties). In view of their success at county level the Club sought entry, and was accepted into the old Warwickshire Combination, which at that time counted professional and semiprofessional teams. (Aston Villa ‘A’, West Bromwich Albion ‘B’ and teams which now grace the Conference as members). Although having moderate success in this competition, as with many other amateur clubs; finance played its part in the decision to return to the Oxfordshire Senior League, where the expenses, in particular travelling, were much more in line with the club’s limited income. Looking to raise their standards once more, the Club sought entry to the Hellenic League. Subject to certain ground improvements they were readily accepted, and have remained as members of Division One ever since. With some ‘ups and downs’, Sport’s have almost always been mid-table at the end of each season, which, considering their amateur status against mostly professional or well-sponsored opponents has not been too bad a record. The Club has always sought to give the youngsters of Banbury and district an opportunity to get into senior football, and indeed beyond, and has continually run youth teams at various age levels. Wishing all those whose ability took them to higher levels good luck, and feeling grateful that the club gave them the start/plat- form to their careers. It has sometimes been said that Easington Sports have not been ambitious or forward looking enough in their sixty years, but shrewd and cautious stewardship by series of committees over the years have ensured that the club has never overreached itself financially, and has remained faithful to its original ideals to provide football of a good standard for local youth. In 2019 the club were awarded Community Charter Standard Status and currently have 35 affiliated teams. Our youth teams include both boys and girls and our open age section now includes three male, two female and a pan disability squad. We remain committed to providing those in the local community with a pathway into football. Our lateral movement into the UCLS for 2021 /2022 provides a welcome new challenge.

EASINGTON SPORTS FOOTBALL CLUB

Rothwell Corinthians began to play competitive football in 1934 when they joined the Kettering and District Amateur League. The idea of the team was first put forward in a terrace house in Littlewood Street. At that time the league had three divisions and the Corinthians were placed in the Second Division. When football resumed after the second World War, the Corinthians were playing at the old recreation ground. This venue was their headquarters for the majority of the next twenty years. The Corinthians introduced their first reserve team into the league in 1950 and, nine years later they became Champions of Division Three. The following season the first team won the First Division Championship and they repeated this feat in 1964. However, the following season they were relegated and by the end of the decade they found themselves in the Third Division. It was not until 1979 that they began to get themselves noticed again as they were promoted to the First Division and also managed to reach the N.F.A. Area Cup Final. The 1980-81 season marked the beginning of the emergence of the club as we know it today. With the move to Rothwell Town's Cricket Ground came a more professional approach to the organisation of the club. Coinciding with this the League had re-styled itself as the East Midlands Alliance and lifted its standards, a move much appreciated by the Corinthians. In 1984 the Corinthians gained promotion to the Premier Division. Meanwhile, behind the scenes the club had purchased the land on which the present facilities are located. These facilities were officially opened by Northampton Town in 1986. Season 1989-90 saw the Corinthians lift their first Premier Division Championship. The season 1994-95 saw them secure their second Premier Championship, and after consultation with the United Counties league Management Committee, promotion was secured. The club saw three appearances in the Northamptonshire Junior Cup Final with a win registered in 2008. Promotion to the United Counties Premier Division was achieved the same season under the management of Frank Ielapi assisted by Paul Smith. With Ielapi and Smith standing down after one season at the higher level Corinthians changed managers each of the following two seasons but struggled in their time at level 5. The club still managed to win the Youth League Cup and Reserve Supplementary Cup in 2009/10 but the First team dropped back down into Ucl Div1. Shaun Sparrow joined as manager rejuvenating the club with promotion back to the Premier Division in 2015. The Reserves had success with two UCL knockout Cup Finals in 2016 and 2017 , winning the first, and were losing finalists in the NFA lower Junior Cup in 2014. During the 2019/20 season we made it to the 1st Qualifying round of the FA Cup and the final of the League Cup under Mitch Austin. Wayne Abott took over and in a Covid affected season won the League Cup held over from the previous season. The 2021/22 season has seen the club appoint Ben Watts with assistants Richard King and John Boseley.
