THE
CHAIRMAN
Good Evening all Welcome to Addison Road for our Bluefin Challenge Cup match against Southam United FC. It has been a busy week of fixtures and the games continue to come thick and fast for all teams in the adult section. There has been plenty to be encouraged about during the season so far. From a playing perspective, I am pleased to see how the three teams are working together and there appears to be opportunities for promotion through the squads if players are performing well. Whilst disappointed with the the FA Vase result at the weekend, I believe this is a sign of the progress made by Matt Giles, his staff and players as in previous years we would have been delighted with a 2-2 draw after 90 minutes away at Hounslow United. I fully expect another tight game this evening. Don't be fooled by the difference in leagues tonight; Southam are sign with big ambitions who are keen to progress through the non league pyramid and they have a number of players who could step up and player a higher standard of football. As with all programme notes this season, it wouldn't be the "new normal" if I didn't mention COVID and the restrictions and guidance we need to work with. Please do try to help us by remaining socially distanced in groups of no more than 6 and please do wear a mask when moving around in the clubhouse. We are far from happy with our levels of hospitality for spectators and players and management from the opposition in particular and we are looking into ways to do this better. Unfortunately, our clubhouse just does not have the capacity to manage large numbers in a socially distanced way. We hope that you understand and will be grateful that we are still managing to get the games on to give us all something to watch. Roll on the spring time! Enjoy the game and your evening and have a safe journey home

Good evening and welcome to Addison Road, Having praised Luke Swann in the lead up to the Windsor game, it was very pleasing to see him put on an excellent display again and continue his good form. It was a much tougher evening for Jake Peters and Alfie Dunn who I had highlighted prior to the game but for all three players mentioned, they will gain from all of the games and situations they are currently experiencing and this should stand them in good stead moving forward. I think this also needs to be the case for the squad in general as although we showed good resilience in the end to overcome Windsor, conceding goals so early into halves will be costly as we saw on Saturday against CB Hounslow. We stuttered on Saturday and although I thought we looked relatively comfortable going in at the break with a 1-0 lead, we never really got going until the final 15 minutes when again we showed good character to get an equaliser late on. We still have Lucas Northover and Darius Browne to come back into the squad having missed both through injury after they both showed signs of promise in the early games. We now face a couple of weeks without a midweek fixture and this will be a chance for some of the players to have a much needed rest as we seem to be starting to show some signs of fatigue. A special mention to Henry Rose who has worked tirelessly throughout this period of Saturday-Tuesday fixtures. This will also give us a chance to regroup and work on some small things in training which will hopefully see us show a little more consistency moving forward. Tonight will be a different test for us and one that we certainly need to be prepared for. Before lockdown, Southam were in strong form last season and should have gone on to win the league and promotion. They have won their only two competitive games this season and I am sure they will be keen to show just how good they can be against a team two leagues higher. We need to put the gap in leagues to one side and approach the game as we would any other with the aim of progressing in the cup. I wish all involved at Southam good luck for the season.

MATCH REPORT CB Hounslow United FC 2 v 2 Easington Sports FC Hounslow win 4-2 on pens Sports suffer shoot out agony again Easington Sports exited the FA Vase as for the second time this season they lost on penalties. Buoyed by a good midweek performance Sports started well and took an early lead when a loose was hit home from inside the box by Piers Walton.
ball
The remaineder of the first half was fairly even. Sports hand the wind in their favour but never really threatened again. Similarly Hounslow had few chances of note in a comfortable half for Sports. For the second time in a week Sports were left stunned after half time again conceding two in quick fashion. The first was a good move finished by the Hounslow striker, the second a long strike from outside the box. With Sports looking like they were going to exit, they rallied with 15 mins to play. The impressive Swann had a chance but shot as the keeper came out of his box. It was then left for Cox to power home the header from a Swann delivery to take us to penalties. The Hounslow keeper put in an impressive performance saving two penalties as they sealed the win.

EASINGTON SPORTS FOOTBALL CLUB
EASINGTON SPORTS FC HISTORY The Club was formed in the immediate post-war period of 1945/46 to fulfill the sporting and social needs of the young people of the Easington housing estate in Banbury, many of who were returning from war service. The Club, then known as ‘The Clan’, soon prospered, as there was an obvious need for such a facility, and formed a cricket, tennis and a ladies section. Football was, however, the main branch of the Club’s activity, and they began playing in the local Junior Leagues as Easington Sports F.C. The football was played on pastureland to the west of Wykham Lane, and for a few years endured the lack of facilities enjoyed today by almost all clubs. (No water available on site, no real changing facilities to name but two of the privations to be met on a cold winter’s afternoon). Fortunately, this situation was soon to change, for as a result of tireless fund raising by all concerned and some dedicated work by stalwarts such as Gordon Vivash, Tim Fountain and many other committed club members, the prospect of a new ground owned by the Club became a reality. The purchase of the Addison Road ground and the building of a clubroom, together with the Club’s entry to the Oxfordshire Senior League was the beginning of senior football for Sports, and to their credit they proved to be a formidable force at that level. (Becoming winners and finalists in the Senior Cup and heading the Premier League table on two occasions in the early and mid-fifties). In view of their success at county level the Club sought entry, and was accepted into the old Warwickshire Combination, which at that time counted professional and semiprofessional teams. (Aston Villa ‘A’, West Bromwich Albion ‘B’ and teams which now grace the Conference as members). Although having moderate success in this competition, as with many other amateur clubs; finance played its part in the decision to return to the Oxfordshire Senior League, where the expenses, in particular travelling, were much more in line with the club’s limited income. Looking to raise their standards once more, the Club sought entry to the Hellenic League. Subject to certain ground improvements they were readily accepted, and have remained as members of Division One ever since. With some ‘ups and downs’, Sport’s have almost always been mid-table at the end of each season, which, considering their amateur status against mostly professional or well-sponsored opponents has not been too bad a record. The Club has always sought to give the youngsters of Banbury and district an opportunity to get into senior football, and indeed beyond, and has continually run youth teams at various age levels. Wishing all those whose ability took them to higher levels good luck, and feeling grateful that the club gave them the start/plat- form to their careers. It has sometimes been said that Easington Sports have not been ambitious or forward looking enough in their sixty years, but shrewd and cautious stewardship by series of committees over the years have ensured that the club has never overreached itself financially, and has remained faithful to its original ideals to provide football of a good standard for local youth. In 2019 the club were awarded Community Charter Standard Status and currently have 31 affiliated teams, both boys and girls, and once again have a development team looking to give local players a direct pathway from youth football into Hellenic League football. However, our proudest moment came when a Craig Robinson goal secured victory for Ben Milners team, ensuring promotion to the Hellenic Premier Division for the first time in the clubs history.
