THE

CHAIRMAN

Good Evening all Welcome all to Addison Road for our fixture tonight against Windsor FC. The games are now beginning to come with some regularity which is great from a competitive point of view and a challenge both for Matt and his squad and the Committee. Safety for everyone remains our priority and once again the squad has players absent due to the pandemic. We ask that all those who attend familiarise themselves with out risk assessment and guidelines and follow the one-way system in the club house. This worked well last Saturday and was topped off by an excellent performance on the pitch. It was great to see first starts for Jake Peters and Alfie Dunn who were promoted from the Development squad with Adam Atherton going the other way to gain much needed fitness. This is really pleasing to see the movement between the three open age teams and it working well. The early goal on Saturday by Luke Swann was off course a great start but the way in which we dominated possession and finished the game off was equally as satisfying. We have struggled on the last two mid-week fixtures with defeats against Holmer Green and Fairford and we will once again have to be at our best against a strong Windsor side. Lets hope that the confidence remains within the squad and its another strong performance ahead of this Saturdays trip in the FA Vase. I am certainly looking forward to the game today and I hope we are in for an entertaining game. I would like to wish everybody a safe journey home. Richard Meadows Chairman

EASINGTON SPORTS FOOTBALL CLUB

Good evening and welcome to Addison Road,

It was good to get back to winning ways on Saturday after two poor results. Again, I thought we created lots of good chances and should probably have taken more of them. I was really pleased with Luke Swann's performance as he has found himself out of the team perhaps unfairly and he has come back in and started to cause real problems for opposition full backs. It was also pleasing to see Jake Peters and Alfie Dunn adapt quickly during their first starts in the Hellenic Premier League and show signs of what we can expect to see from them moving forward. We have three or four key players out injured or ill currently and despite that, the team showed good character to bounce back from the two defeats. We now need to build on this and have the belief that when we apply ourselves correctly and concentrate properly, we can be a match for a lot of teams in this league. With all of the unavailable players not far from a return, their will be some really good competition for places and this should drive us on. Like us, Windsor have had a mixed bag of results in the league so far. Before narrowly losing to Fairford on Tuesday night from a winning position, they had picked up four points from their previous two games and they will be looking to get back to winning ways. We need to worry about ourselves however and look to build on a steady performance on Saturday with an even better one tonight. I wish all involved at Windsor good luck for the season. Matt Giles Manager

MATCH REPORT Easington Sports FC 3 v 1 Tuffley Rovers FC Sports bounce back in style!!! Easington Sports bounced back from two disappointing results with a comprehensive performance against Tuffley Rovers FC. There were first Hellenic League starts for both Jake Peters and Alfie Dunn who impressed midweek. It was Peters in the first minute whose tenacity won the ball to find Swann at the far post to tap home to make it the perfect start. Sports dominated the half and were further rewarded when a Lloyd Sabin shot from outside the box was adjudged to have hit the Tuffley Rovers defenders hand. Charlie Hill made no mistake from the spot. Sabin was then involved in a similar incident when he was adjudged to have handled after the ball was chested down by the lively Tuffley winger. Penatly converted low to Joe Whites left. This was to be Tuffleys only shot on target in the match and Sports dominated for the remainder of the game. Henry Rose sealed the win when a driven volley from outside the box cruelly deflected past the Tuffley keeper. A good win and performance and Sports will need to improve in their recent midweek performances as they host Windsor this Tuesday.

EASINGTON SPORTS FOOTBALL CLUB

EASINGTON SPORTS FC HISTORY The Club was formed in the immediate post-war period of 1945/46 to fulfill the sporting and social needs of the young people of the Easington housing estate in Banbury, many of who were returning from war service. The Club, then known as ‘The Clan’, soon prospered, as there was an obvious need for such a facility, and formed a cricket, tennis and a ladies section. Football was, however, the main branch of the Club’s activity, and they began playing in the local Junior Leagues as Easington Sports F.C. The football was played on pastureland to the west of Wykham Lane, and for a few years endured the lack of facilities enjoyed today by almost all clubs. (No water available on site, no real changing facilities to name but two of the privations to be met on a cold winter’s afternoon). Fortunately, this situation was soon to change, for as a result of tireless fund raising by all concerned and some dedicated work by stalwarts such as Gordon Vivash, Tim Fountain and many other committed club members, the prospect of a new ground owned by the Club became a reality. The purchase of the Addison Road ground and the building of a clubroom, together with the Club’s entry to the Oxfordshire Senior League was the beginning of senior football for Sports, and to their credit they proved to be a formidable force at that level. (Becoming winners and finalists in the Senior Cup and heading the Premier League table on two occasions in the early and mid-fifties). In view of their success at county level the Club sought entry, and was accepted into the old Warwickshire Combination, which at that time counted professional and semiprofessional teams. (Aston Villa ‘A’, West Bromwich Albion ‘B’ and teams which now grace the Conference as members). Although having moderate success in this competition, as with many other amateur clubs; finance played its part in the decision to return to the Oxfordshire Senior League, where the expenses, in particular travelling, were much more in line with the club’s limited income. Looking to raise their standards once more, the Club sought entry to the Hellenic League. Subject to certain ground improvements they were readily accepted, and have remained as members of Division One ever since. With some ‘ups and downs’, Sport’s have almost always been mid-table at the end of each season, which, considering their amateur status against mostly professional or well-sponsored opponents has not been too bad a record. The Club has always sought to give the youngsters of Banbury and district an opportunity to get into senior football, and indeed beyond, and has continually run youth teams at various age levels. Wishing all those whose ability took them to higher levels good luck, and feeling grateful that the club gave them the start/plat- form to their careers. It has sometimes been said that Easington Sports have not been ambitious or forward looking enough in their sixty years, but shrewd and cautious stewardship by series of committees over the years have ensured that the club has never overreached itself financially, and has remained faithful to its original ideals to provide football of a good standard for local youth. In 2019 the club were awarded Community Charter Standard Status and currently have 31 affiliated teams, both boys and girls, and once again have a development team looking to give local players a direct pathway from youth football into Hellenic League football. However, our proudest moment came when a Craig Robinson goal secured victory for Ben Milners team, ensuring promotion to the Hellenic Premier Division for the first time in the clubs history.
