As i enjoy exploring my design projects with different design thinking toolkits such as SWOT analysis, brainstorming, user observations/interviews and conducting extensive online research such as trend scanning. Another important aspect i value, is the contribution and constant feedbacks gotten from my teammates and the several design mentors. X-mini Happy is a MP3 speaker which uses an external SD card memory to empower music enthusiast with the freedom to play music wirelessly.
Between 2008-2010, mobile devices evolved into multifunctional devices incorporating apps such as camera and mp3. However, the specifications were not refined to the needs of today’s discerning consumers. This led to the opportunity of developing a wireless music player.

Manual bed rotations is a basic need that requires the caretakers to perform lateral rotation for patients to relieve pressure sores and improve pulmonary functions. However these disruptions cause the caretakers to have only 3 hours of sleep daily.
INSIGHTS “Large complex solution were perceived to be useful for these patients by many, however in my observation, space and simplicity are key factors for easy adoption of a medical design.�
FINDINGS “Placement of a pneumatic air bladder at the lower thoracsic area is adequate to relieve pressure from the shoulders to hips area.�
USER TESTING WITH WORKING PROTOTYPE Over four weeks of user testing with numerous refinements to the design, the user currently does not require any attention of his caretakers at night.
With the ability of spontaneous positioning of air bag to provide non-uniformed pressure relief and a pulsating inflation sequence to provide dynamic muscle movement.

Approaching the Hand & Reconstruction Department in the National University Hospital, we understand that current finger prosthesis is not popular with the patients due to its price. We saw the opportunity of exploiting 3D technology to simplify fabrication and provide mass customisation to appeal to the masses.
We manage to reach out to the real users for product trials which in turn, gathered valuable feedbacks for improvements. The project was well received by both the local hospitals and users.

Marrowtap is a redesign of the bone marrow examination instrument that aims to achieve a safer and more efficient procedure.

PROBLEM Due to the lack of assurance, doctors need to rock the biopsy needle inside the patient’s bone to ensure the bone marrow specimen is dislodge.
However, my design team explores a simple yet safer method which allows the doctor to verify the specimen capture visually during surgery.
The current methods of performing bone marrow biopsy relies heavily on the doctor’s experience due to its ambiguity and lack of assurance of current instrument design. Therefore Marrowtap provides assurance of specimen capture without the need of rocking of the needle brutally inside the person’s bone with a simple forcep pinching.

The introduction of a forceps needle and flesh guide serve to provide surgeons with better confidence in conducting the procedure. The forceps needle is able to grasp and remove the marrow sample before the main body of the instrument is removed from the patient, providing visual assurance and better error recovery in the procedure. The flesh guide ensures better stability in inserting the needle into the patient by serving as an anchor point to guide the drilling motion.

LOCALISING THE WATER PURIFICATION SOLUTION !
We leverage on using proven technologies like UV disinfection with clear PET bottles and pressurised water purification with DIY PVC pumps to provide filtration on the go. This method not only offers fresh drinking water to the locals but also made localised for the local communities to build and maintain the design on a long term.
PROPOSED WORKFLOW By designing an ergonomic canvas carrier, it allows the users to transport 50 litres of clean drinking water with comfort while eliminating the tedious process of water boiling for safe water consumption.
By developing simple tasks like managing filters and product assembly, it can encourage cottage industries in Qinghai to handle specific tasks with given standards for a living.
