Cave

Cave

The Cave is designed for children to be able to both relax and hide inside and climb over the top. You will need Medium tyres along with 4” bolts and budget paint. There is no need for cement as you can compact the earth from the foundation around the tyres. Make sure you have an 1.5meters of space around the Zig Zag bridge.

How to build 1. Dig two holes. The depth of the holes will be about half the height of your tyre. Once dug, place the tyres in the holes so they’re at a 60 degree angle, with their tops touching. About 3 overlapping tyre lengths from these two tyres, dig another two holes and do the same thing, except this time space the tyres about a tyre and a half width apart. This will be the opening to the cave. Then dig two holes in between these two sets of tyres, again placing the tyres at 60 degrees, but spacing them by about 2 tyres widths from the center line. These two tyres are not evenly spaced between the two ends. They are closer to the back of the cave. It may be easier to wait to fill in the holes until you’re sure you have the correct spacing. 2.

For this next step, you will be digging 4 more holes, but the depth of these holes will only be about 1/3 of the tyre height. Dig these holes so the tyres will be touching the inside of the middle tyres and the tyres in the cave opening. Drill holes in the tyres and secure using the

nuts and bolts. Again, it may be easier to fill the holes with dirt after you’ve drilled and connected the tyres. This will allow for more hand clearance. 3. Add four more tyres, placing two near the end of the cave and two near the beginning. Drill and secure the tyres to each other at all connection points (where one tyre touches or rests on another tyre). 4. Stack two more tyres near the back of the cave, completing the ceiling in this area. Attach the tyres using the nuts and bolts. 5. Add two more tyres, creating the ceiling in the middle of the cave. Attach with nuts and bolts. 6. Add four more tyres to the middle-front of the cave, and attach using nuts and bolts. 7. Add one final tyre to the roof at the front of the cave. Place it flat with the hole facing up. 8. Make sure all tyres are connected and secured before playing on/in cave. 9. Cut/drill holes in the bottoms of all the tyres to ensure proper drainage to prevent mosquitos. 10. Paint.

Colour Scheme Paint two or three colours making sure all tyres that connect to each other diagonally are the same colour as each other.
