BIG MEDIUM Big Medium, is a 501(c)(3) non-profit arts organization based in Austin Texas whose mission is to support the arts and artists in Texas. To achieve this, we proudly produce the East Austin Studio Tour, West Austin Studio Tour and the Texas Biennial, as well as exhibiting innovative contemporary gallery programming in the Big Medium Gallery at Canopy. Big Medium presents the 13th East Austin Studio Tour! EAST is a free, annual, self-guided art event occurring over two weekends in November, providing the public with an opportunity to meet the makers: the local artists and artisans who leave a lasting imprint on Austin’s vibrant, dynamic culture. Tour-goers are invited to discover new artistic talent, see working studios, learn about artists’ tools, techniques, and inspirations, and explore unique exhibition spaces and local businesses.

Select Events are projects or events, organized in collaboration with Big Medium. These events highlight partnerships that provide financial or ideological support for both parties involved, as well as a unique experience for the audience.

EAST BASICS WHAT TO SEE & WHEN TO SEE IT EAST is divided into four participant categories: Artists & Studios, Exhibitions, Happenings, and Select Events. Artists & Studios and Exhibitions are free to the public and open on the weekends of NOV 15-16 & 22-23 from 11am 6pm. Happenings are also free, occurring on the weekends of the tour with varying hours. Select Events happen throughout tour weekends, as well as during the weekdays/ nights in between and may cost money to attend. Big Medium is taking over 1501 E 6th St – the old Nuevo Leon restaurant – and transforming it into an arts destination for a limited time only. DUE EAST! will be your first opportunity to explore and purchase the work of over 250 EAST artists featured in the group exhibition. Eyes Got It!

Saturday, NOV 8 • 1:00 - 5:00 PM Eyes Got It! is an open call art competition inspired by arts based, realityTV game shows. Salvador Castillo created it to demystify the juried show process, offer critical feedback and highlight artists working in the central Texas community. A panel of local arts professionals conduct the review process in front of a public audience and after 3 rounds of elimination will award one artist a solo exhibition at grayDUCK Gallery in 2015. Besides prizes generously sponsored by art orgs, the Top 10 semi-finalists are invited to participate in Group Hug 2015 curated by Jill Schroeder of grayDUCK Gallery. Latinitas Photography Show MezcladaGirl

Saturday, NOV 22 • 12:00 - 5:00 PM A young Latina in Austin is part of the city’s largest youth population. But, she is not monolithic. In a way, she’s indefinable – she’s a Spanish speaker and she’s not, native and foreign born, she likes and doesn’t like guacamole, maduras and California rolls. For EAST, Latinitas presents a visual “punto de vista” using photography and mixed media. The work is generated by hundreds of Latina girls at Latinitas’ after school enrichment programs, which are focused on empowering Hispanic girls and teens using media and technology. The photography sale will benefit Latinitas college scholarship fund for its program leaders.

Katy David Pysanky method Batik eggshells

I create my artwork using a centuries-old technique called Pysanky. This is a batik-type process using beeswax, a small heated funnel, and aniline dyes on eggshells that results in intricately layered patterns of color, geometry and two-dimensional line on a three-dimensional surface.
