Senior Tea Party Was Another Success! 2nd Annual

East County Realtor’s along with facilitator, Debra Westlund, Hospitality Host with Women’s Council of Realtor’s Delta hosted their 2nd annual Tea Party for their local Seniors from facilities within East County. Get Organized and Stay Clutter-Free By Patrick McCarran ~ Real Estate Broker TSo let’s say you are tired of clutter and do your annual or often quarterly spring cleaning, now what? Once you’ve organized and simplified your home or office how do you keep it that way? Here are some tips that will help. The primary tip is to give everything a place. As my dad used to say “ A place for everything and everything in its place”. A simple thought and saying but if you think about it, that is the very key to being and staying organized. This applies to everything big and small — from remote controls, keys and phone chargers to paperwork, sports equipment and Christmas decorations. First designate and area and then invest in storage containers or use cardboard boxes to keep It all contained and organized. If your home is large, assign each room a day of the week and schedule 10-15 minutes. Breaking the task down into small bite meaning one day and one room will make it manageable, and help fit it in your busy schedule. Stay on top of it! Do a clutter check each week. Block out an hour to sort and organize anything that’s fallen out of place. Create a catch all area in the main rooms such as the kitchen and living room that tend to collect things. Place a bin in these rooms and collect Items that belong elsewhere, at the end of the week, put things away. If you find that the Items In the bin are mostly toys and games, put your children in charge to put them away. Rethink your purchases. In order to live a less-cluttered simpler life you need to consciously think about what you want versus what you actually need. Commit to maintain a constant number of items in your home and then donate or give away a similar Item each time you purchase a new one. For example, if you buy a new shirt donate one to make room or if you want a new decoration have a place for it or donate something you already own. Review every quarter, especially if you have children. Kids tend to outgrow clothes, games toys and other Items very quickly. It is amazing how much “stuff” you never use. Sorting through items every few months will ensure that your home will stay tidy and under control. Paperwork is a huge culprit. Think about signing up or paperless billing for all of your monthly bills, credit cards, utilities etc. and then you can store in a folder on your computer and in the cloud, out of sight but just a search word away. Keep a hard folder or safety deposit box for pink slips and other important hard documents. However designate a place for these and your tax paperwork so it doesn’t get out of control. The key is of course to stay vigilant and you can live clutter free. But if you find you need a larger house give me a call. PREPARE FOR THE HOLIDAYS!? I was out shopping for some office supplies a few days ago and saw, in all of its splendor, the very first advertising and product setup for Halloween! It seemed to me on first glance that this may be a bit early for the beginning of the holidays but after a bit of cogitation I understood what is going on. It appears that retailers know something that we do not. Early preparation for future events has a lot of value. Of course, Halloween seems to be quite a long way off. I haven’t even opened my first Labor Day IPA yet (I haven’t even purchased it). As of this writing, Halloween is more than 2 months away and yet I am being reminded that it is just around the corner. All of this for something I can pick up on the day of the event and be well prepared for the activities of the day. There must be a reason; and there is. Retailers want you to know every day that the day is coming and you need to have it on your mind, even peripherally, that the time is anon. In Real Estate, we often, is not always, do not plan this far ahead for a purchase or a sale of a property. This is a failure of managing what one needs to do. When buying candy that you plan to give away, the Sellers begin to remind us daily well in advance. Often, when a potential Seller decides to sell, much less lead time is accounted for to the purchasing public. Sometimes we may see a ‘Coming Soon’ sign on a home in the neighborhood but that is the total information that is provided unless we are an active Buyer for a home. Once a Buyer decides that they want to purchase, it is a little more complex than going to the market and pick your favorite sweet treats from more selections that you could even imagine. Despite our needs we react at too quick a pace as a Buyer and far too slow as a Seller. One other way to look at this is to think of it in this way, you need to eat every day and the decision of what to eat is often very difficult because of all the choices available. In Real Estate, you may buy a home once every 5 to 7 years, but we treat this purchase in the same way, thinking that once you decide purchase (eat) your difficulty will be in the number of choices, not the lack of choice. Now that you may see that the holidays are coming up quickly (and it would be nice to be settled in before they occur), it appears clear to me that now is the time to do the work required to position yourself to be an active purchaser. It means that you need to make some decisions fairly soon which include price level, location, rooms and amenities and much more. IT would be very sad to go to the market and find that the shelves are bare (just like at 4 pm on October 31st). As a Seller, the goods you have to offer are not perishable, just as much of the candy offered at Thanksgiving can last until the next millennium. Anticipating the amount of time to complete the sale of real estate can be difficult. If you have the handle on all of the things that need to be done then you understand what this article is all about. In any case be assured that while the time to complete escrow can generally be calculated form the time you enter into a contract until end of escrow, the time prior to that can vary greatly due to market forces, property condition, location, and all of the rooms and amenities that potential Buyers may desire. This is where your Realtor comes into play; we hope you will choose us, of course.
