Tourister Mill sells its history, modern touches — and those views BY KRISTEN RAY One of the most significant housing developments in recent memory in the East Bay is the Tourister Mill apartment complex, where a massive waterfront mill is being converted into hundreds of modern homes. Perched along the waterfront at the northern entrance to downtown Warren, the developers have worked to blend the mill’s historic charm with a chic finish. Located in the old Warren Manufacturing Co. mill building at 91 Main St., the sprawling commercial and residential property owned by Brady Sullivan Properties boasts a smattering of unique amenities and features. Commercial tenants on the first floor include a dentist and Pilates studio, mixed with residential spaces like a library, a game room, a community room, a fully-equipped kitchen, a stateof-the-art fitness center that includes its own indoor putting green, and a modern movie theater with luxurious, reclining seats. A newly-finished outdoor area offers green space, as well as a bocce ball court and fire pit, all facing the Barrington and Warren rivers, with views of Barrington marinas, boating and the yacht club. “We joke that the only thing it’s missing is a little coffee shop,” said Property Manager Danielle Marcello. On the second floor of the building, its rich history as a cotton and suitcase factory becomes more evident. Photographs of Warren from decades-past — compliments of the Historical Society — line the hallways, and bits of the original machinery can still be found in a sampling of the rooms. On this floor, the traditionally-styled living spaces mix in historical features with modern touches for a completely original look. Though they may be smaller in overall square footage, these apartments offer an abundance of natural light from every corner. White cabinetry replaces the light-oak style from the rooms below, and an open-concept layout offers a welcoming atmosphere that adds to its breezy appeal. It’s this style, Ms. Marcello said, that the rental company has favored to model the additional 100 units currently being built next door, expected to open next year. “We’re kind of accommodating both types of people,” she said. “Those interested in the old and historical, or the new

Home listings increase for the first time in two and a half years In July, the number of single-family homes for sale in Rhode Island increased year over year for the first time in 29 months, according to the latest report from the Rhode Island Association of Realtors. July marked the first time in nearly two years that single-family home inventory climbed above 4,000. Sales activity lagged behind last year for the fifth consecutive month, which helped increase supply. While the median sales price grew by 3.5 percent compared to July 2017, the rate of annual increase has fallen for the past three months. All indications are that the market may have reached the tipping point at which supply and demand begin to become more balanced. “Our housing market has been
