SUCCESS AFTER EASTERN Eastern graduates are employed at Pfizer, ESPN, Hartford HealthCare, Aetna, Raytheon Technologies, Electric Boat, Sinclair Broadcast Group, Venture Solar, New London Public Schools, Center for Family Justice, Physical Therapy and Sports Medicine Centers and many other companies and organizations in Connecticut, New England and around the globe.
Patrice Eugene ’20 (English and Sociology) is pursuing a master’s degree in Sociology and Education at Columbia University, with a research interest in immigration studies. It all started with an internship at the Chicago-Kemp College of Law in summer 2018. During the internship, he worked with judges and lawyers at government law firms while attending law classes. “Internships are great opportunities to act immediately on your passion, interest and curiosity. There are tons of opportunities at Eastern and if you find something missing, there’s always room to create it.”

Biology major Evelyn Lemus ’20 is employed at Stanford University School of Medicine as a research professional studying microbiology and immunology. She aspires to become a medical doctor and research physician. “I am who I am academically, emotionally and socially because of my experiences at Eastern. As a research physician, I plan to apply my knowledge to prevent and treat diseases and injuries, and I want to be engaged with communities that resemble my own.”
Jonas Bjørnes ’18 (Political Science) earned his master’s degree in international social and public policy at the London School of Economics. “My political science degree from Eastern was extremely helpful for my graduate studies, because the core classes covered theories and methods that were examined to a greater extent in my social policy-related courses.”

Biology major Justin Gomez-Stafford ’21 is pursuing a master’s degree in human genetics and genetic counseling at Stanford University. Eastern allowed me to build a portfolio that showcases my carpentry and drafting skills, which is helping to launch my career.”
HANDS-ON LEARNING
Most Eastern students experience some form of applied learning – undergraduate research mentored by faculty, internships and co-ops, service learning, study abroad and countless other opportunities!
Internships Eastern students take paid and credit-based internships in local schools and social agencies, at ESPN and the State Legislature, at Cigna and Disney World, and hundreds of other locations. Students gain intensive fieldwork experience and hands-on training that builds upon the theoretical foundations they’ve learned in the classroom.

Social Work major Emily Constantino ’21 participated in a unique internship with the Willimantic Police Department, working alongside officers on calls related to mental health. “Social work is an incredibly diverse field with a lot of career paths. I’ll be happy wherever I end up as long as I can continue to serve as an advocate for individuals who struggle with mental health and substance abuse challenges.” She’s now a graduate student in the advanced social work program at the University of St. Joseph.
Political Science major Olivia Anderson ’21 was one of 60 students nationwide selected to present at the prestigious Posters on the Hill Conference in Washington, D.C. Her research explores the influence of partisanship on climate change opinion. “I wanted my study to be interdisciplinary. Climate change is something I have a passion for learning about and I believe understanding opinions of it will help inform climate policy in the future.” Olivia is now pursuing a master’s degree in climate and society at Columbia University.
Research At Eastern, faculty-mentored undergraduate research takes place in all majors. Student researchers start as first-year students, exploring topics ranging from genetics to European literature, autism and the use of social media in election campaigns. Because of Eastern’s focus on undergraduate education, a higher percentage of Eastern undergraduates conduct research than at large research universities.

Tyler Madden ’21 is a multimedia journalist at WTOV-TV outside Pittsburgh. “As the producer for Eastern’s on-campus ETV news show, I was able to take everything I learned from my classes and apply it to producing content outside of the classroom. The hands-on experience you get from working on industrylevel equipment like I did at Eastern taught me skills I use every day to report on stories in the Ohio Valley.”

Living close to classes, the library, dining hall, technology resources and support services is not only convenient — national data also shows students who live on campus get better grades and graduate on time. Six-Week Challenge To welcome first-year students and help them transition to college life, the Six-Week Challenge provides social events, games and late-night programs, and introduces students to Eastern’s resources.

A GREAT TIME TO BE A WARRIOR We are Warriors! Despite ending their spring season two-and-a-half months early in 2020, the Eastern Warriors won the Little East Conference Commissioner’s Cup for the fourth year in a row in 2019-20, for recording the best athletic performance among the LEC’s nine schools. Eastern athletes also won the LEC’s Presidents’ Cup in 2020-21 a record sixth time for having the highest cumulative GPA in the conference. In addition to 19 varsity teams, Eastern has five club sports and 18 intramural sports – everything from ice hockey, rugby and club football teams, to co-ed softball and indoor soccer.
