Enjoyed by walkers, runners and horse riders the wood also has a rather unique claim to fame, having been used for filming scenes from the Star Wars movies. Breathtaking displays of bluebells mean a visit between the last week of April and the first week of May is highly recommended.

Its 3.5 acres of space is imaginatively laid out to provide areas of interest including a pond, fernery, large herbaceous borders and an aviary. Heart Town

Love your town… Love your heart Watford Borough Council has joined forces with the British Heart Foundation (BHF) to become Watford Heart Town. The partnership aims to increase awareness and improve the lives of local resident’s heart health as well as supporting the work of the BHF and raising important funds for the BHF’s Mending Broken Hearts Appeal. Mayor Dorothy Thornhill says: “We’ve got lots going on in our town so there’s no excuse for not getting active and trying your best to keep your heart healthy. Let’s all do our bit and raise some funds for this important charity.” As a BHF Heart Town, Watford residents are helping support our Mending Broken Hearts Appeal. At the moment there is no cure for a broken heart. Once your heart muscle is damaged by a heart attack, it can never fully recover. But

30

there is hope. To help us learn how to teach the heart to ‘heal itself’, we need to spend £50 million on research to repair damaged hearts. With your support, we could be funding trials with heart failure patients in as little as ten years’ time. Making a difference Poppy Edwards underwent major heart surgery at the age of 11 and is supporting

Watford Heart Town. Poppy has helped with various collections and fundraising activities in the area. As a member of Garston Ladies Football Club Poppy’s love of football has helped her to recover and lead an active, healthy lifestyle.
