Happy New Year To You All This will be the last newsletter before I retire from the role of Regional Organiser. It has been a good time. I have just checked when I took over the role and it seems it was 2010, so six or so years is long enough in this role. We have had three venues during my tenure. Hopefully with the latest venue, we can call it home for a good few years. It gives us scope for activities which have not been possible in the past. I have to say a very special “Thank You� to Geoff Blackwell for all his calm help and for looking after the money side for over five years. Geoff has always been accompanied by his wife Hazel even when Hazel had emergency surgery. Geoff was always there to help if needed. On top of all this Geoff is constantly on the road as Treasurer of RPS. Peter Yeo and Mark Flatman have also been a help at meetings. During the last 18 months you will have noticed the presence of Stewart Wall, who hopefully will be taking over my role if elected at the AGM. You will find Stewart is a man who likes to get things done, being an ex Fleet Street photographer. It is Stewart and his wife Shona who have breathed life into the newsletter. He has many fresh ideas for the future and I hope you will fully support him. The three book projects we have completed this year are all thanks to Stewart. I do feel that sometimes members play safe and only attend lectures which they find easy and pleasing rather than stretching themselves a little. Give it a go. You may surprise yourself. I hope you all have a successful 2016, whatever your areas photography are. Ralph
Robert George Hawksworth FRPS 1935-2015 It was with sadness that we learned Robert Hawkesworth FRPS passed away shortly after his 80th birthday on the October 29th. Robert was a great friend of the East Midlands Region and the RPS. leading walks for the Nature group for many years, serving on the Nature Distinctions Panel and ending his time as Chairman. He was a lecturer and Distinctions adviser. Anyone who had seen him lecture always came away saying that the advice, quality of pictures and his style of presentation was clear and understandable.

Chris will be at The Exhibition from 10.30am until 12 noon on January 16th to talk to members about his exhibition.
The East Midlands RPS Committee will also be there to hear of any ideas you have for your region. THORESBY THE END OF THE MINE Thoresby Colliery, the last pit in Nottinghamshire, has closed bringing to an end hundreds of years of mining in the county. P.H. Emerson Presented by the Author With works drawn from the collections of the V&A and Nottingham Castle, this exhibition celebrates pioneering photographer and writer Peter Henry Emerson
(1856-1936), and explores the author’s strategy for the presentation and circulation of his work. Come and chat coffee morning with RO Ralph 10:15 - 12:15 Nottingham Contemporary Cafe
Come along for an informal chat and have a coffee or tea with Ralph the Regional Officer. Chat about anything photographic. This time I will be holding it on a Saturday to help those who have to work on other days. 10:15 -12:15 to allow us to clear the site if it gets busy at lunch time.
A Day With Paula Davies FRPS EFIAP/s EPSA Guy Davies ARPS EFIAP EPSA (change of speakers)
Guy and Paula are both keen photographers with many international exhibition successes. They travel widely but frequently see the same scenes quite differently. Guy generally enjoys landscape photography and likes to see the big picture, although he does find details at times and even occasionally photographs people. Paula likes to look for intimate details and enjoys applying some artistic creativity in Photoshop and Painter, although she occasionally sees the big picture. They present their different, but occasionally similar, views of the world http://www.pixelfoto.co.uk/ Both are part of the Permajet Team of Lecturers. Bring your own food. Regional AGM & Ladies Day Two Annes Anne Sutcliffe and Ann Miles both FRPS
Regional AGM 10:15 -11:00/11:15 Two Annes:
Anne Sutcliffe will be showing a selection of her prints with a wide variety of subject matter (including creative, urban idiosyncrasy, landscape and wildlife) explaining how the prints were conceived and produced and hopefully inspiring the audience to emulate her style.

Ann Miles will discuss Monochrome My Way: An exploration of the different moods that we can create using monochrome from stark barren snow scenes to dark threatening skies in landscapes and seascapes. She will show several colour images where monochrome is not appropriate. There will be some discussion of the software and techniques available for making the most of your digital conversions. A digital presentation with prints to view.

VA Creative and Pictorial
Our advisory days proved highly successful for attendees last year as many of them went on to gain their distinctions. As well as our own regional members, others travel from all over the country to them. We even had one member come over from America. One attendee, albeit for a fellowship advisory, is coming back to see us from London in June to talk about his work. Could you be doing the same in the future?
East Midlands Region RPS Goose Fair 2015 Book Project Our third book of 2015 arrived just before Christmas and it’s proving just as popular as Park Hill Streets in the Sky and The Milk Race books with the photographers concerned. We are in discussions about a possible exhibition. More projects will be organised for 2016. Please watch out for announcements if you wish to participate.
New venue proves a success Most of our meetings will now be held at Whatton Jubilee Hall, Church Street, Whatton, Notts, NG13 9EL The venue offers a large hall that is good for projecting images and has easy access. We have use of the kitchen for tea and coffee. Please bring your own lunch.
