EASTONS Worldwide Air & Cruise In Partnership with Cito Holidays
Holidays of Distinction with Door to Door Service
2016-2017

Realise Your Dreams… We are pleased to introduce our 2016 programme of Air and Cruise holidays. This has been prepared by the Consortium of Independent Tour Operators (CITO) of which we are a member. Our 2015 season was the most successful ever and we look to build on this solid base for the forthcoming year. Many of the ‘old favourites’ will be repeated on the strength of their popularity. Some have been increased from eight to ten days to reflect feedback from clients and there will be some changes to the excursions. As ever, these regular tours will be mixed with some completely new ones. These include the Algarve, Kefalonia, a tour of the Little Trains of the Pyrenees, a journey around the Baltic States and the romantic Bohemian region of the Czech Republic, Cuba and Northern California.
River and ocean cruising is another popular feature of our programme. Again, some familiar river cruises will be repeated but with new ones including Christmas Cruise on the Danube, Treasures of the Rhine, and a unique back-to-back cruise combining the Rhine, Moselle and Seine rivers from 2 different ships – 2 for the price of one! This year we have three ocean cruises with Fred Olsen Cruise Lines with destinations including Iceland, Portuguese Islands and Cities and the Amazon.
We invite you to browse through our brochure and hope that you will find something to interest you and we look forward to seeing you on one of our holidays in 2016.

We will collect you from home and take you back at the end of the holiday. Please note that some holidays involve early starts from home. On all flights we include the cost of allocated seats and one item of hold baggage. For the popular destinations in Europe we aim to offer flights from a London airport and also a northern one (usually Manchester). Flights to more distant destinations and a few European ones are usually from London but we still take you there and bring you back. Due to airline schedules, some flights may depart early in the morning. Although this means an early start, the sooner you arrive, the sooner you can start to enjoy your holiday. We use hotels that are at least to UK three star standard and often higher. Full breakfast every day, most dinners and some lunches. Our river cruises are on an ‘inclusive’ basis with drinks provided with lunch and dinner and also from the bar (excluding Paris). All excursions detailed on individual itineraries are included together with admission to attractions, boat trips and train rides. Please note that most excursions involve some walking and some are unsuitable for those with mobility issues. Please ask for more details before you book. Every holiday (except the ocean cruises and the Paris Spring Break) is escorted by a Tour Manager who will join the tour either before leaving the UK or at the destination airport. Airport assistance is provided on all holidays. Financial Protection

Algarve The Portuguese Riviera 11th April 2016 | 8 days | £995 19th September 2016 | 8 days | £1095 The Algarve – wherever you look, the colours of the sea are always with you, creating the impression of a water colour dotted with highlights of gold, green and blue. After a photo-stop at Ponta da Piedade, the stunning rock formation, we continue to our last stop, Sagres, a vey quaint and unspoilt harbour, with historical links to the Age of Discoveries.
F Excursion across the border to Spain to one of the oldest mining exploitations in Europe; Minas de Riotinto. Iron ore has been extracted from this area for 5000 years and our
visit to the museum will give us an insight into the motor for the economy in this beautiful part of Spain. More recently, at the end of the 19th Century, British engineers and miners moved to the area bringing along the industrial revolution. In fact, the museum is housed in the hospital built especially for the workers. After the museum, we will be taking a trip on the train introduced specifically to connect Riotinto with Huelva, the capital of the province and the port from where the valuable minerals were taken abroad. We take the train journey along 12km of restored track where we pass old smelting and industrial facilities belonging to the mines as well as beautiful scenery, normally inaccessible to travellers.
F We interact with the locals on this visit to Loule Market. A market in Portugal is a great experience and in this case it’s located in a lovely building. We’ll also have time to browse around the narrow little shopping streets in the old town, visit the Moorish castle or the hustle and bustle of the local Gypsy Market. After some free time, we continue to the pretty town of Tavira. Only a short drive away, Tavira was one of the most important ports during the Moorish domination of the Algarve. The streets have the traditional windy layout that the Moors left behind as well as the whitewashed houses. The ‘Roman Bridge’ spans the river and altogether they make Tavira one of the most picturesque towns on the Algarve. DAY 8: Today we leave the Algarve. Puglia Italy’s Hidden Gem 19th June 2016 & 25th September 2016 | 8 days | £1095 The ‘heel’ of Italy is a land of memorable coastal and hilltop towns, picturesque seascapes, olive groves and limestone precipices. We explore this fascinating area from our base in Martina Franca, a small town in the very heart of Puglia. The town has a lovely historic centre and a maze of winding alleys where whitewashed simplicity sits side by side with baroque extravagance. DAY 1: Your Door to Door service will transfer you to the airport for your flight to Italy. A local coach will transfer us to our hotel where you will have time to settle in before dinner.
During our stay in Puglia, the following excursions will be included:
F There will be two free days to explore on your own.
F Scenic coach tour through the southern Italian countryside to visit Ostuni, ‘La Citta Blanca’. Rising high above the vast olive carpeted plateau of the lower Murgia, Ostuni has long been an awe-inspiring sight for those travelling across Puglia. We continue to Alberobello, famous for its collection of Trullo, traditional dry-stone conical roofed dwellings which are only found in the Itria valley. Although there are many Trullo scattered around this region, Alberobello has the largest collection of original buildings, many of which are still occupied today and have been made a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
F Excursion to Lecce, nicknamed ‘Florence of the South’. Built in the local soft creamy limestone with dazzling architectural surprises around every corner, Lecce is a minor Baroque masterpiece. Its spider web of streets offers a range of vistas. The production of olive oil, wine and ceramics continues to be the mainstay of the local economy. Continue to Otranto, one of Puglia’s most charming towns. The imposing castle, thick perimeter walls and robust towers dominate much of the town, giving way to a small port, a series of sea fronted promenades with excellent restaurants and the towns sandy beaches and turquoise waters. F Excursion to Castle Del Monte, one of the many castles
16
built in the 13th Century by Frederick II, Holy Roman Emperor. It is seen as his greatest and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The castle is a brilliant example of medieval architecture and a walk around the outside of the castle walls is recommended to take in the views of the surrounding countryside. Continue to Trani, an instantly recognisable landmark for sailors navigating the Adriatic Sea over the centuries. Trani’s iconic seafront Cathedral is one of the finest in Italy. The old town centre is a charming medieval network of streets with plenty of fine architecture arranged around the picturesque fishing port.
F Scenic coach tour to the city of Altamura, famous throughout Italy for its bread and known as the Citta Del Pane, or ‘city of bread’. We will visit the Piazza Duomo, the central square where the Romanesque cathedral rises to the sky literally because the surrounding buildings are so close it prevents you from seeing it unless you look straight up. We continue the tour to nearby Matera, a town renowned for its cave-dwelling districts. The cavehouses where families once lived are now coming back to life as hotels, museums and restaurants. DAY 8: Today we leave Puglia. Our local coach will transfer us to the airport for our return flight back to the UK and your Door to Door service home. On arrival our local guide will meet us in arrivals and will escort us to the coach for our transfer to the Radisson Hotel Bridgetown (or similar) for our overnight stay. The evening will be free for you to explore Bridgetown at your leisure. DAY 2: Following breakfast we have arranged for a 2 hour guided walking tour of Bridgetown. Our guide will show us the delights of this bustling city, you will have free time for a little exploring and lunch before our transfer to the ship. We sail later this evening. DAYS 3, 4, 5 & 6: At sea DAY 7: This morning we arrive at Santarém - Located at the confluence of the creamy brown Amazon River and the much darker Rio Tapajós. From the beaches that run alongside Av Tapajós you can see the famous ‘Meeting of the Waters’, one of Brazil’s greatest natural attractions. In the centre of the city, there are plenty of other sights to enjoy too, such as the pretty architecture and art exhibitions in the local museums. Don’t miss the Mercado Modelo – the City Market. DAY 8: We spend the day today at Boca de Valeria – a small community where the River Valeria meets the Amazon River. This tiny settlement has fewer than a hundred inhabitants, who live in wooden stilt houses. Prepare to experience a spirit, beauty and charm here and be uplifted by the smiles and the welcome of the natives. DAYS 9 & 10: We spend the next 2 days at Manaus, the Amazon’s largest city, resting along the left bank of the Rio Negro, which merges with the mighty, muddy Amazon. Some of the city’s genuinely rewarding sights include a leafy zoo with as many animals out of the cages as in them, and a beach-and-museum combo that gets you out of the city centre. DAY 11: This morning we arrive at Patintins – an easy walk off the ship and into town. Most cruise ships are given a very exciting welcome, with Bumba dancers and sometimes fireworks. Simply walk off the ship and along the pier and you will see a flea market selling everything under the sun. Also, there is a colourful floating market with dozens of boats jammed together, selling fruit, vegetables, fish and souvenirs. The town itself has a few interesting buildings, including a brightly painted cathedral in Portuguese colonial style, with an ornate interior. DAYS 12 & 13: At sea DAY 14: We arrive early morning at Devil’s Island – those intrepid enough to go are rewarded with virgin forests which are home to some of the continent’s largest and
30
most rare creatures. Keep an eye out for the colourful, characterful macaws, roaming monkeys and majestic sea turtles. The island also has a raw, unvarnished culture and a bizarre mish-mash of history. DAY 15: At sea DAY 16: We arrive back in Barbados docking in Bridgetown early morning where we have arranged for a transfer into the city for a little free time, time for some last minute sight-seeing or shopping before transferring to the airport for our return flight to the UK DAY 17: Our flight arrives back in the UK where you will be met by your Door to Door service home.

Rocky Mountain Rail Adventure A journey through Colorado 1st June 2016 |12 days | £2995 This holiday will take us on a variety of trains through the superb scenery of the Rocky Mountains. Three of the trains will be hauled by steam engines climbing as high as 10,000ft. We also travel on the highest cog railway in the world and travel by Amtrak through the mountains to Denver. Away from the trains, we visit the Rocky Mountain, Mesa Verde and Great Sand Dune National Parks. The price includes all the train journeys and other attractions, full breakfast each day and dinner on most evenings. DAY 1: Your Door to Door service will transfer you to the airport for your flight to Denver. We will be welcomed by our Tour Manager and our local coach for the transfer to our hotel. D DAY 2: Our first stop today will be at the Colorado Railroad Museum on the outskirts of Denver. Here we learn about the history of some of the railways we shall visit over the next week or so. The exhibits include several locomotives and historic carriages, together with indoor galleries. Then just a short drive to the first of these railways – the Georgetown Loop. This is a fairly short but spectacular narrow gauge steam line where the train climbs 640ft across bridges and around a large loop. After time for lunch we drive south over the Hoosier Pass to reach Colorado Springs for a 2 night stay. BD DAY 3: This morning we travel high into the Rocky Mountains on the Pikes Peak Railway. This rack (or cog) railway climbs for 8.9 miles from Manitou Springs to reach the top of the mountain at over 14,000 feet. It is the highest railway in North America and the highest rack railway in the world. The Swiss built trains climb through the forest and then above the trees into the barren alpine landscape. We have a short time at the top before the descent and then, after a break for lunch, we drive the short distance to the Garden of the Gods – a registered National Natural Landmark. We shall have a guided tour of the Park with its 300ft towering sandstone rock formations and then spend time in the Visitor and Nature Centre. BD

DAY 4: A fairly early start for the journey to Canon City where we board a tourist train through the Royal Gorge. The two hour journey takes you along the banks of the Arkansas River in to the gorge where sheer rock cliffs rise over 1,000ft above the river. This is regarded as one of the most scenic rail journeys in North America. Then back to our coach for the drive to Alamosa with a stop at the Great Sand Dunes National Park on the way. Here we find the highest sand dunes on the continent, rising to over 750ft above the San Luis Valley and covering an area of 30 square miles. Overnight in Alamosa. BD DAY 5: Just a short drive to Antonito to start one of the most spectacular train journeys of our holiday. This will be a full day trip on the Cumbres and Toltec Railroad – ‘America’s highest and longest Coal-Fired, Steam-Operated, NarrowGauge Railroad’. It was originally a 64 mile stretch of the Denver and Rio Grande narrow gauge network. We make a steady climb through the morning from the semi-desert around Antonito up into the mountains with the scenery getting steadily more stunning as we go. We stop at Osier for a full lunch (included) and then complete the climb to the top of the Cumbres Pass which, at over 10,000ft, is the highest mountain pass reached by rail in the United States. The last part of the journey is downhill to the small town of Chama in New Mexico. We then drive to Durango for two nights. BL DAY 6: Today we visit the Mesa Verde National Park by coach. DAY 7: Back to the trains. We spend the morning riding on the Durango and Silverton Railroad. This is a steam hauled narrow gauge railway which travels for 45 miles along the banks of the Animas River surrounded by the Rocky Mountains. Part of the route is along the rim of a gorge high above the river. After 3.5 hours we reach the former mining town of Silverton which has retained its Wild West atmosphere. We have time for lunch and then drive over the 11,000ft Red Mountain Pass before descending to Ouray – another old mining town surrounded by towering mountains. Most of the Victorian buildings have been preserved and are now mainly cafes and tourist shops. We continue through Montrose to the town of Grand Junction where we stop for two nights. BD DAY 8: Today we travel through the spectacular landscape of the Colorado National Monument on one of the grandest scenic drives in the American West, the 23-mile Rim Rock Drive which offers red rock canyons, crisp blue skies, and glorious views along the way. Today we shall be driving among the rock layers that are nearly two billion years old. Extraordinary forces of erosion and time carved these layers. We see pinion pine and juniper trees and may spy Hopi chipmunks, rock squirrels, golden eagles and desert bighorn sheep. We return to the attractive centre of Grand Junction before continuing to Colorado Wine Country. Colorado wines are making a big splash, and the heart of the Colorado wine industry is right here in Grand Junction. The Grand Valley region produces wonderful, high-quality wines in a spectacular setting. A tour of a winery is followed by a winemaker’s dinner before returning to our hotel. BD DAY 9: The famous California Zephyr trains travel almost
2,500 miles from San Francisco to Chicago. We join it today for the most scenic section of the whole route – the 273 miles from Grand Junction through the Rocky Mountains to Denver. We travel through the Glenwood, Gore and Fraser Canyons before climbing to the Moffat Tunnel at over 9,000ft. From here we descend to Denver through a succession of tunnels and sweeping curves. BD DAY 10: Full day trip out of Denver as we follow the scenic
continuous paved road in the USA. It includes many viewing points which allow us to experience this subalpine and alpine world. At the West Entrance we stop at the town of Grand Lake to visit the 60 shops, restaurants and galleries on the historic western boardwalk, before returning to Denver. BD DAY 11: We shall spend our last day in the Denver area starting with a drive to the Red Rocks Park from where there is a great view over the city. We shall also see the natural amphitheatre concert venue. Then a tour of downtown Denver. Travel through the quiet tree-lined streets of Denver’s residential neighbourhoods and journey back to the 19th Century. Witness the elegance of historic Larimer Square and the Victorian mansions of “unsinkable Molly Brown” and others. Along the way, we will pass a variety of cultural attractions, such as beautiful City Park, Civic Centre Park, the gold-domed State Capitol, the United States Mint and the Denver Art Museum. There will be free time for lunch and to explore the centre before transferring to Denver Airport for the overnight flight to London. Cuba Look forward to a warm welcome from Cuba 10th November 2016 | 9 days | £1695 Meticulously preserved, Cuba’s colonial cities haven’t changed much since musket-toting pirates stalked the Caribbean. The atmosphere and architecture is particularly stirring in the UNESCO-listed cities – Havana, Trinidad, Cienfuegos and Camaguey – where grandiose squares and cobbled streets tell erstwhile tales of opulence and intrigue. Elsewhere many buildings lie ruined and tattered like aging dowagers waiting for a facelift. Further proof that the safeguarding of Cuba’s historical legacy has been one of the revolution’s greatest achievements. Cuba hemorrhages music; a dynamic mix of styles described by aficionados as a love affair between the African drum and the Spanish guitar. Although the attractive arcs of white sand that pepper its north coast are sublime, explore beyond Cuba’s beaches and you’re in a different domain, a land of forests and crocodile-infested swamps, suburbia-free countryside and rugged mountains. DAY 1: Your Door to Door service will transfer you to the airport for your flight to Havana. A local coach will transfer us to our hotel where you will have time to settle in before dinner. During our stay in Cuba, the following excursions will be included:
F Guided tour of the city of Havana including visits to the Revolution Museum, Capitol, Presidential Palace, and the famous Malecon. We continue to the Rum Museum with included tasting. We will also visit Central Park and Havana Grand Theatre before settling down for our included lunch at La Mina Restaurant. The afternoon is at leisure to explore further on your own. This evening we will watch the Cannon Ceremony, held each evening at the La Cabana Fortress, where soldiers dressed in 18th Century uniforms fire a cannon over Havana Bay. This historical reconstruction dates back to the colonial era. Dinner is included.

Flight timings and carriers in the publicity material are subject to change as a result of airline procedures and these details are given for guidance only. Sometimes departure airports are also changed and where we are providing Door to Door Service or the changes are between the London airports of Heathrow, Gatwick, Stansted and Luton, this does not constitute a major change. Final details will be shown on your tickets. If a major change becomes necessary, we will inform you or your travel agent as soon as reasonably possible if there is time before departure. When a major change occurs (such as the alteration of your outward/return flights by more than 12
hours, changes of resort or reduction in the standard of accommodation) provided it does not arise from circumstances amounting to force majeure, you will have the choice of either accepting the change of arrangements, taking another holiday from us, or cancelling your holiday and receiving a full refund.
