About Eastside Preparatory School Eastside Prep students are independent thinkers, and socially conscious citizens. They are artists and mathematicians, scientists, musicians, and writers. They are historians, athletes and philosophers. In fact – a class at Eastside Prep is a symposium of active minds engaging in real dialogue. At Eastside Prep we focus on critical thinking, responsible action, compassionate leadership and wise innovation. The impact of that approach is powerful, because it reminds every student – every day – that anything is possible, and learning is the way to achievement. We look for students who have great ideas, who want to know other people like them, and who are not intimidated by real exploration. This is a place for motivated, interested people who want to try new things, want to learn in new ways, and who want a high energy education. This is an authentic learning community. We use tools of all kinds to extend our reach into the world. We also rely on one another to sustain our culture of respect for learning, for self, and for others. We started TEDxEastsidePrep as a way to bring ideas together from business, research, other schools, and any other sector of society that is involved in learning, research or design. As the ideas mix new insights begin to emerge; insights which just might help all of us do what we do better.

About TED TED is an annual event where some of the world's leading thinkers and doers are invited to share what they are most passionate about. "TED" stands for Technology, Entertainment, Design — three broad subject areas that are, collectively, shaping our future. And in fact, the event is broader still, showcasing ideas that matter in any discipline. Attendees have called it "the ultimate brain spa" and "a four-day journey into the future." The diverse audience — CEOs, scientists, creatives, philanthropists — is almost as extraordinary as the speakers, who have included Bill Clinton, Bill Gates, Jane Goodall, Frank Gehry, Paul Simon, Sir Richard Branson, Philippe Starck and Bono. http://www.TED.com http://www.ted.com/tedx http://video.TED.com/talks/podcast/TEDxIntro_480.mp4 TEDx presentations last just 18 minutes: long enough to say something of significance, but short enough to hold everyone's attention and to be easily watched over the Internet. While 18 minutes may be shorter than you're used to, this TED format has proven a carefully prepared talk of this length can have astonishing impact. An additional benefit of speaking at TEDxEastsidePrep is that presentations will be made available online following the conference at www.TEDxEastsidePrep.com, and possibly on TED.com. All talks

will be recorded at TV production quality. If you're unfamiliar with TED, here are a links to few talks worth checking out: TEDxEastsidePrep: Dr. Tae – “Can Skateboarding Save Our Schools?” TEDxEastsidePrep: Shawn Cornally - "The Future of Education Without Coercion" TED: Sir Ken Robinson – “Bring on the Revolution” TED: Tom Chatfield – “7 Ways Games Reward the Brain” TED: Conrad Wolfram – “Teaching kids real math with computers” As a TED offshoot, TEDxEastsidePrep will be following many of the TED speaker rules. Speakers are banned from "selling from the stage," and there is strict enforcement of the clock. If you accept our invitation, we will offer further suggestions on how to tailor the perfect talk for our audience. TED has never paid speakers to appear, but has always committed to creating an experience that's tremendously fulfilling and beneficial on all sides, and as a TEDx event we plan to do the same. TEDxEastsidePrep will cover speakers' travel to and from the Seattle area from any US airport and provide up to 1 night of hotel accommodation. Again, keep in mind your talk may reach a vast audience on the web. TED will select some TEDx talks to be released online and most are viewed by at least 100,000 people, and some by several million. Indeed, in aggregate, TED Talks have been viewed more than 100 million times worldwide. This exposure has transformed the careers of many TED presenters and performers, either by introducing them to larger audiences or recasting them in a new and thoughtful light. TED is owned by a not-for-profit foundation whose mission is simply to spread good ideas to the world. Much of the content ends up being offered free online. TED is also home of the famous TED Prize, which grants its winners a wish to change the world.
