COVER STORY
HYDROTHERAPY Healing Value of Water Hydrotherapy is the use of water in any shape and form – liquid or solid, hot or cold, freshwater or mineral water – to treat sickness and improve health, such as stimulating blood circulation, getting rid of body waste, reducing muscular and joint tension and inducing relaxation. Even though medical technology has advanced a great deal, hydrotherapy remains a popular option for health and beauty treatment around the world
According to an ancient religious text, all lives come from water. Science backs up this statement with the fact that water makes up two-thirds of human body mass. Based on this scientific finding and the aforementioned belief, doctors and ancient sages believe that water has the power to heal sickness, be it physical or mental. This thinking has led to the inception of hydrotherapy, which has been passed on generation after generation throughout the history of mankind.
HISTORY OF HYDROTHERAPY Hydrotherapy has a long history that dates back to the times of ancient Egypt and Persian, Greek and Roman empires. A record shows that ancient Egyptian royalty bathed in water mixed with essential oil to nourish their skin and prevent skin diseases. Hippocrates, a Greek physician, treated patients with a mineral bath. In Europe, there exist the Russian bath and the Finnish Sauna, the latter of which involves two to three cycles of sauna and a cold bath, to help stimulate blood circulation much like the Japanese onsen, which has yet remained popular for sickness treatment and relaxation.

COVER STORY
DIY HYDROTHERAPY Today, hydrotherapy is very popular as a traditional way of healing with nature. Several treatments are easy to do but offer great results, including: • Soak your feet in cold water for a few minutes, towel your feet and walk or trot around until your feet dry. This helps stimulate blood circulation and treat headache, low blood pressure, insomnia and varicose veins. • Soak your feet in warm water for 30 minutes, wash your feet with cold water and towel them. This helps alleviate headache, migraine, chest pain, dysmenorrhea and tired legs. • Hot and cold press: pour hot water into a bottle or a hot water bag, wrap it with a towel and press it on an aching area for 3-5 minutes. Then, press the area with ice for one minute. Repeat the process five times. This helps stimulate blood circulation and ease sprains and injuries to joints and muscles. • Soaking in a bathtub: fill the tub with water at a temperature slightly lower than body temperature. Sit or lie down in the tub for 20 minutes. This helps with insomnia, mood swings, depression and side effects from menopause. • Steaming: pour boiled water into a sink and maybe add some herbs or essential oils, such as galangal, onion or eucalyptus oil, to increase effectiveness. Lean your face over the sink and drape a towel over your face and the sink to create a tent to trap the steam and heat inside. Steam your face for 10-15 minutes. This helps alleviate a cold, making you feel fresh and breathe more easily.
Apart from these easy treatments you can do at home, many hospitals, health centers and spas are using hydrotherapy to help patients with neurological disorders, birth defects, bone and muscular disorders, paralysis as well as mobility problems among the elderly through the use of specially designed equipment. For example, a hydrotherapy swimming pool may have a jet stream that can release water with high pressure to massage the body, a walking corridor for walking in the pool, plus a sauna or a steam room.

Palawan Island Paradise for Sea Lovers
PALAWAN ISLAND Palawan Island may not be a familiar name for Thai people, but for travelers around the world this is a gem in the ocean in Southeast Asia. Nestled in the southwest of the Philippines and surrounded by verdant islands of various sizes, Palawan Island is known as one of the best diving spots in the world due to its crystal clear water and rich coral reefs. Palawan Island is the largest island of Palawan Province. Its northern coast is connected to the South China Sea and the southern coast to the Sulu Sea, making the waters surrounding the island turquoise and emerald green. When the sky is clear, white clouds and the azure sky reflect on the water surface, rendering a spectacular sight. With such clear water and white fine sand, you can see the sand and the coral underneath. It’s no surprise that Palawan Island is a paradise for travelers who enjoy tranquility as well as diving and photography.
Popular activities at Palawan Island include snorkeling and scuba diving, cruising around the island as well as swimming and sunbathing. But what’s not to be missed is a visit to two World Heritage Sites, namely the Tubbataha Reefs National Park, listed in 1993, and the Puerto Princesa Subterranean River National Park, listed in 1999.

The Tubbataha Reefs National Park is a marine and bird sanctuary located in the middle of Sulu Sea. It consists of two huge atolls, serving as a nesting site for birds and marine turtles. Its atoll reef has a very high density of marine species and, according to UNESCO, contains 75% of the described coral species and 40% of the world's reef fish. This makes Tubbataha one of the best destinations for divers. The Puerto Princesa Subterranean River National Park is located in the Saint Paul Mountain Range, about 50 kilometers from the capital of Palawan Island to the north. It is the world's longest underground river, running about 8.2 kilometers through the 20-million-year-old limestone cave of the mountain range and flowing into the South China Sea. To visit the subterranean river and the cave’s stalactites and stalagmites, you have to row a boat and use a flashlight as no lights are installed within the cave. And for preservation and safety reason, you are permitted to explore only 1.2 kilometers of the underground river. Sources

ADDING COLOR TO WATER WITH WATER By Catherine Songphatanayothin
It’s a usual sight to see a wide array of beverages of different kinds filling the shelves of a convenience store, from soft drinks to green tea and juices as well as coffee and vitamin drinks. But if we ask nutritionists around the world which drink is most beneficial to health, they will say that clean water is the best medicine of all.
The problem is when all other drinks are so colorful and flavorsome, water is a paler choice by comparison.
To encourage people to switch back to drinking water, a group of American people have come up with a trick to add color to water without changing the water’s properties too much. What they do is turning water and fresh fruits into ice for adding into drinking water. The following are three simple ideas to create fruit ice.
Sweet and Sour Orange ice slice oranges into small pieces and put them on an ice cube tray. Fill the tray with water and put it in the freezer. A few hours later you will get sweet and sour orange ice that not only has orange fragrance but is also full of vitamin C.
Pomegranate ice prepare one cup of pomegranate seeds, half a cup of water and some lemonade. Blend everything together and pour it on an ice cube tray. Once frozen, you’ll get beautiful red pomegranate ice full of nutrients.
Mint and Watermelon ice cut watermelon into small cubes and put them on an ice cube tray. Place some mint leaves on them, pour water into the tray and put the tray into a freezer. Then, you’ll have sweet watermelon ice that’s great for refreshing yourself.
You can apply this idea to other fruits as you like. When we learn how to use water creatively, we can make better use of water in many ways in our daily life, not only for the benefits of our physical health but also our mental wellbeing.

BE INSPIRED ONE LIGHT STRONG AND POSITIVE MIND By Catherine Songphatanayothin
Look for the smallest and simplest thing you can do and do it immediately in your first step. Don’t think of anything complicated and don’t worry how it will lead to your destination. If you don’t do it, you’ll never get to the first lamp post and you won’t know that you may see all the next lamp posts, one after another, that will eventually lead you to your destination. Not being able to see very far isn’t a big deal. The beginning of success requires only reaching the light of the first lamp post that’s ahead of you.

A group of four friends drove to a restaurant
one evening for dinner. The restaurant was only one kilometer from their university, but after dinner it snowed heavily, so much so that everything disappeared behind the whiteness. The street, which had a lamp post every 50 meters, was completely dark. What anyone could see was some dim light of the first lamp post ahead and nothing beyond that. In this situation, the four friends began to discuss if they should drive back to their university now. Eventually, Michelle said, “Let me drive.” Michelle began to drive carefully toward the light that she could see. When the car reached the first lamp post, she slowed down to see the light emerge from the second lamp post. When the car reached the second lamp post, everyone could see the third light. The small car moved slowly past the lamp posts every 50 meters until it went past 20 lamp posts, which equaled a distance of one kilometer, and everyone arrived at the destination safely. This story is a great metaphor for the situation we all will have to experience. Sometimes, our world is dark, blocking out our path. The destination that was once clear becomes obscure. We’re not sure how to get ourselves away from the situation we’re in. So, when you encounter this kind of situation, remind yourself of Michelle’s approach.

Since his coronation in 1950, the late King had a large number of Royal duties regarding conservation of nature and environment, including water, soil, and forest. The effort resulted from his intelligence and vision to preserve all the three most important elements. Accodring to his initiative, the project highlighted on cooperation of all parties to help conserve nature and raised public awareness on the issue. Reforestation is a practice from his initiative. Forest areas in Thailand currently measure at 25% or approximately 80 million rai (one rai is equivalent to 1,600 sq m). If Thailand wishes to resume its 40% of forest area, Thai people will have to plant more than 100 million trees in the next 20 years, to achieve another 48 million rai of forest area.
East Water is determined to hold activities regarding the ecology every year, to be an inspiration for sustainable conservation of nature and environment in the East. The goal is to carry on His Majesty the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej’s life devotion for his people.
East Water, a main developer and manager of water resource, celebrating our 24th anniversary, would like to invite volunteers to apply His Majesty the late King’s initiative by joining our “Volunteers to Preserve Forest and Water”. The event aims to plant 2,050 trees and release over 70,000 aquatic lives in Prasae reservoir area in Rayong province, which is one of the largest water retentions in the East. The Watershed area measures more than 1,500 sq km, covering six rai. The natural water resource that could be used for agriculture and consumption, reserve for industrial, tourism, and surface water for tap water production – all to prevent Rayong people from water shortage.

WATER STOCK
GET WEALTHY WITH DIVIDENDS
Even During Times of Economic Slowdown The Thai economy and stock market are currently suffering from strong fluctuations, making it hard to invest. No matter how solid their budget or graph are, many stocks do not hold as Thai and foreign investors alike feel urged to resell their shares. However, the dividend stock is here to help you reduce the level of investment-associated risk.
“ Are the defensive stock and the dividend stock the same thing? THE ANSWER IS
They are not the same. For example, many people view public utility stocks as basic stocks. Nevertheless, some public utility stocks give high dividends, others give lower dividends.
NO.38
NOVEMBER 2016
WATER STOCK
WHY IS THAT THE CASE?
High dividend yield stocks are stocks that earn the share-holder a sum higher than the average dividend yield on the stock market. Usually, the Thai stock market's average dividend yield is around 3%. High dividend yield stocks on the other hand, usually give a return of around 6-10%. Furthermore, even as the economy has slowed down and stock prices have largely plummeted, the return on some high dividend yield stocks have remained at around 6-10%. This, as well as their regular payments, are among characteristics of high dividend yield stocks. High dividend yield stocks are found in all industrial sectors, including food, commerce, energy, transport and exportation as well as water-related businesses. Public utility stocks, which are usually less affected by economic fluctuations, are best-suited for longterm investments or value investors (VI) who want regular dividend yields rather than profit. It is then up to the investors, to decide in which industry they would like to invest and to study the details and information on different stocks available. Nevertheless, the chosen stock should give regular and continuous high dividend yield. Some companies' profits may be fluctuating, making it sometimes hard for them to pay regular dividend yields. These companies' stocks are then called Growth Stocks rather than high dividend yield stocks. However, high dividend yield stocks have a weak point. They can slow down the buying and selling activities in the stock market, due to their nature. Most investors who purchase high dividend yield stocks keep them for a long time, hoping to gain regular dividend yields over the years. Still, this won't affect Value Investors (VI) as much as large investors.
MANY PEOPLE WONDER WHY DOES A VI LOOK FOR DIVIDEND STOCK?
Most VI don't like to sell their stock and sometimes, they have invested full port. They will earn regular income through their stock, which they can later reinvest. This is one of the strategies recommended by Warren Buffet, a famous investor. According to him, investing in public utility funds such as energy plants, can bring high dividend yields continuously. This will in turn raise the chances for further investment.
Investment involves risks. Investors should study the information in the prospectus before making an investment decision. Sources

WATERPOWERED CARS
HYDROGEN CAR The International Energy Agency (IEA), an international agency on global energy resources, has announced that there will be 1.7 billion cars on roads in 2035. Around 73% of these cars will still rely on petrol, which is not a renewable energy source. Our petrol reserves are diminishing at a fast rate while our consumption of it will not cease to increase.
NO.38
NOVEMBER 2016
INNOVATION
N Therefore, several large automobile companies have turned towards producing cars powered by renewable energy sources, such as electric cars or water-powered cars. In the 2016 Olympic Games closing ceremony, a Japanese automobile company has introduced their water-powered car which can run up to 483 kilometers with its supply. The cars will be used in 2020 during the next Olympic Games, which will be held in Japan. The water-powered car is fueled by hydrogen. The process of electrolysis can split water into hydrogen and oxygen. When the electron is separated from the hydrogen molecule, energy is produced, that can be used to power a vehicle. In order for the energy to be released in water form, it must be merged with the oxygen. This does not cause any poisonous residue and does not harm the air or environment. It is an easy to find renewable energy source, which can wholly replace petrol and is three times cheaper.
Photo from: http://www.midasletter.com/2013/11/comes-hydrogen-car/
Not only are water-powered cars cheaper than petrol-fueled vehicles, they are also more environment-friendly. If more water-powered cars are used in the future, consequences on the environment will be immensely positive. More over, several countries will be able to reduce their petrol imports if they switch to using waterpowered cars instead. In the same time, it is a nightmare for OPEC (Organisation of the Petroleum Exporting Countries) member-countries, which will see their revenue plummet. This will certainly have economic and social consequences in these countries. Nevertheless, we must turn towards alternative energy sources, such as water, solar or other types of renewable energy sources, if we wish to keep consuming the same amount or more energy in the future.
Otherwise, we will certainly face a shortage, as our reserves of traditional energy resources are depleting.

ABOUT A BIZ
BANKERS IN DIGITAL AGE
In the Digital Age when everything’s easily available at your finger tip, everyone can have a personal banking system. This phenomenon was born out of the creativity of startups that want to mold digital life, digital finances and digital technology together. The result is a new industry called “FinTech.”
FinTech stands for financial technology, a new term invented to refer to a new business model that employs technology to offer financial services in place of banks. These services include loans, online payment, stock trading and online insurance, money transfer and currency exchange as well as crowdfunding.
NO.38
NOVEMBER 2016
ABOUT A BIZ
In just a few years, these startups have revolutionized the world’s financial industry thanks to its strength in better, faster and easier services. Most importantly, customers can carry out transactions all by themselves, anytime and anywhere, at a more affordable price, since all these FinTech companies do not carry the costs of having branches and employees. For example, TransferWise, a popular FinTech startup from the UK that began to offer international online money transfer in 2011, has become a major rival to key players like Western Union because it can offer the service that is more convenient and cheaper to use. This has made TransferWise become a “unicorn” valued at $1.1 billion.
Another up-and-coming FinTech is peerto-peer lending (P2P lending), a lending innovation between two individuals without involving a financial institution. Small businesses and ordinary customers can access loans with more convenience and at a lower fee. This business is gaining popularity in many countries, such as Lending Club in the US, Monexo in Hong Kong, Yirendai.com and Lufax.com in China and SatangDee.Com in Thailand. FinTech has gained wider recognition in Thailand in the past year. The number of FinTech companies has also increased significantly, with new startups including StockRadar, an investment app; Omise, a Payment Gateway provider; Pay Social, a payment system for online merchants that accepts both credit and debit card payment and operates as a pay point for offline services; and Piggipo, a personal finance app that manages all expenses and payments via credit card.
These few examples should be enough to show you how these startups are playing an increasingly important role, in a David against Goliath style, in global finance. This should motivate all the financial giants to adapt themselves for the Digital Age that’s sweeping through our world.

YOU JUMP, I JUMP
Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation provides some tips for safety boat trip as follow
Being in an unstable ship
Find a floating object to rest and wait to be saved. While waiting, stay away from the sailing or sinking boat as you can be sucked into the vortex of the sinking ship or cut by the propeller. Source • http://www.posttoday.com/social/ hot/455444
“You jump, I jump,” is a popular phase referring to the movie Titanic. The luxurious British passenger liner, that sank in the North Atlantic Ocean in 1912, after colliding with an iceberg, caused more than 1,500 deaths. Despite the sink, nothing could go in between the love between Jack and Rose. Back to real life. If a luxurious liner of the time could sink, how can we ignore the safety of our everyday boat boarding? Don’t forget a most recent sinking boat in Ayutthaya where at least 28 islamic pilgrims were killed by recklessness and irresponsibility.
Before the Trip
Choose a ship with a good condition. No overload cargo. Life-saving equipment is in place. Wait to board the boat on the ground, not at the pier, because overcrowded passengers may cause an overturn to the pier.
Boarding a Ship
Balance the weight and group of passengers on the boat. Do not stand or sit at the tail or gunwale.
Witnessing a Fall-off
Call out for help and identify the spot of the fall, to prevent the victim to be cut by the propeller and the lifesaver to be thrown to the accurate spot.
Rescuing a Victim
Throw the victim a lifesaver or device to help float. To save a drowning person, make him or her face up and grab his or her shirt from behind. If it’s not possible to grab the shirt, hug the person from behind. Never allow the victim to wrap around you, or both of you could be drown.

Weaving, with deep love, weeping words; Praising with grateful minds though unheard, Thou came like rain to salve dirt. Thou shines like star to brighten the earth. The setting sun bewept Thy pass. Celestial summoned, being sad, Tears flow like a torrent day and night. His Majesty, our Hope, our Guide.
Uniting our loyal, afflicting hearts, We bow with woe as Thou departs. Thou art our rock, our stronghold. Alas, Thy parting kindles our sorrow. Foggy sky bemoaned Thy death. Pour out tribute to Thy eternal rest. Pleading merciful heaven to embraceThou remains in Thai's hearts all ages.
With our deepest sincere gratitude to His Majesty the late King. Eastern Water Resources Development and Management Public Company Limited
