lyleaf is a journal published to commemorate the 47th National Day celebrations of the Sultanate of Oman. The content of the editorial includes features and articles on the progress and development of the Sultanate in the past four decades as a resilient nation of strength and legacy.

Flyleaf aims to showcase and chronicle the achievements of the Sultanate in its historical journey to a modern nation in the Arab world. To be published annually from now onwards, the journal will have articles on nation’s achievements on various industrial and commercial sectors, socio-economic growth and progress of the country; especially sectors such as industry, oil & gas, tourism, health and education will be the highlight. The journal will also feature the contributions made by various individuals and organizations that enabled the nation to reach glorious heights. These wise words were said by none other than the father of Omani Renaissance, His Majesty Sultan Qaboos Bin Said. These words have so much meaning to them. This is how Oman was reborn, not because it had come up as the best but because His Majesty made it the best. It has been 14 years since I left my motherland for the shores of this desert nation in the Middle East for work. But Oman has never been a foreign country, rather it has become a second home to me and my family. I have never felt any alienation in this country, as I am treated equal to a citizen. I’ve travelled many lands far and wide, but the beautiful roads of Oman is a sight to behold and unparrelled. Greenery is what one calls a magnificent scene. But I see the same beauty of trees and flowers in the sand dunes and deserts. The Sultanate has such a unique geography stretching from Muscat, the beautiful capital, to Wahiba Sands, the great deserts, to Salalah, the land of bananas and Jabal Akhdar, the green mountain. Omanis are no strangers to me. Rather, in every conversation with an Omani colleague, friend, or student I feel a strong bond of brotherhood. Omanis have an exquisite thing in common. They are proud of their ethnic culture and heritage and being a citizen of this beautiful country. In the 21st century, where everyone wants to be modern, I envy the fact that they can proudly call themselves Omanis, with their heads held high. The Sultanate provides good education and the job opportunities for every citizens. Education has grown rapidly and widely over the years and Oman continues to flourish with a very young and educated national manpower. But a country’s victory is when the people feel safe, which is absolutely true in the case of the great country. We do not live in fear of the dark because we know that there are thousands staying up to keep us safe. We are not afraid because Oman gives each of us the security we as humans thrive by. Of course I need not mention that Oman has such a huge role to play in the fact that you can drive your family to watch a movie or to go to a restaurant. Iman has been a major supplier of petrol across the globe. This huge country has become what it is today as a result of the hard work by everyone who has contributed to the nation-building process. It has become what it is because of every employee doing their duty, because of the workers cleaning roads, building us shelter and because of every citizen here. But it has truly become what it is today because of the endless efforts of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said, the very soul of Oman. I wish His Majesty and all of Oman good health, happiness and prosperity. May the country flourish more and more in peace, prosperity and harmony under His Majesty’s wise leadership.

t’s celebration time in Oman as the Sultanate marks its 47th National Day on November 18, 2017. The celebration of National Day coincides with the birthday of the Sultanate’s beloved and popular ruler, His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said, ILLQVO ILLQ\QWVIT [QOVQÅKIVKM \W \PM LIa
The National Day represents an opportunity for the Omani people to express their gratitude and commitment to the builder of modern Oman as devout citizens of a growing nation, His Majesty, the Sultan. The nation salutes His

Majesty for the progress and prosperity achieved since he began to rule the country 47 years ago.
HM, as he is popularly and lovingly addressed by the common man of the Sultanate, also leads the nation as its prime minister, foreign minister, defense minister, head of state, and commanderin-chief, all in one. His image greets visitors at the airport. His name adorns roads, schools, hospitals, ports, stadiums, and universities. The largest mosque in every major town is named after Qaboos – a distinction many Muslim communities reserve for the deceased. Every Omani has a story
about His Majesty the Sultan’s visit to their town or village, aided their father, er, or personally opened a school or water er plant. Loyalty to Oman is loyalty to o His Majesty. “Yesterday, it was a completee darkness, and with the help of God,, tomorrow will be a new dawn forr Muscat, Oman and its people,” Hiss d Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said said in 1970, while addressing the peoplee of Oman on the day of his accession..
His Majesty also declared, “I will proceed as quickly as possible to transform your lives so they are prosperous and with a bright future.” Oman, today, is a testimony to this promise. Over the past four decades, the Sultanate enjoyed rapid development, led from the front by His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said. The Renaissance strategy covered all aspects of life and its outreach prevailed at all levels on the domestic front and on external relations, thus giving Oman an admirable status among sisterly and friendly countries in this region and across the world. The Sultanate of Oman is strategically located on the far southeastern coast of the Arabian Peninsula with maritime borders along the Arabian Gulf, the Sea of Oman and the Arabian Sea. Sultanate’s population is about 4.7 million and has an area of 309,000 square kilometers, with a coastline of more than 3,165 kilometres long.
History
Oman’s history dates back to 5,000 years. Its strategic location between the east and the west as a major part of trade route has helped to establish

an active relationship with the civilizations of the ancient world, as well as, being a vital transit point on the East-West Silk Route. Oman was also known as the land of Sindbad the sailor and the country of Luban, the ‘frankincense’. The Omani people remained relatively independent from the tribes surrounding them, except from temporary pressure put on them by Iran and surrounding areas, until 1507. The Portuguese took control of the ports in Muscat and Sohar in that year, using their naval tactics and technology. They managed to gain control over the rest of the coast in 1507 rendering Oman occupied. The Portuguese saw the ports along the coast of Oman as valuable stopping points in their Indian spice trade routes. <PM 8WZ\]O]M[M QVÆ]MVKM _I[ ÅVITTa weakened after the British East India Company signed a treaty with the Al-Ya’ribi clan allowing them legal and religious rights to operate in Oman’s ports. On November 18, 1650, Imam Sultan Bin Saif and others led an uprising that effectively expelled the Portuguese from Oman and its ports. Oman has been independent ever since and is the longest continuously independent state in the Arab region. Persia had also occupied the coast previously. Yet this intervention on behalf of an unpopular

dynasty brought about a revolt. The leader of the revolt, Ahmad bin Said Al Busaidi was expelled by the Persians by 1749. He then defeated Bal’arab, and was elected sultan of Muscat and imam of Oman. The Al Busaidi clan thus became a royal dynasty. The Busaidi dynasty renounced the imamate after Ahmad bin Said. During the period of Sultan Said ibn Sultan’s reign (1806–1856), Oman built up its overseas colonies. As a regional commercial power in the 19th century, Oman held the island of Zanzibar on the Swahili Coast, the Zanj region of the East African coast, including Mombasa and Dar es Salaam, and (until 1958) Gwadar on the Arabian Sea coast of present-day Pakistan.
New Era
Sultan Qaboos bin Said was born in Salalah in Dhofar governorate on November 18, 1940. Young Qaboos received his primary and

secondary education in Salalah and Pune in India. Later he was sent to a private educational establishment in England when he turned 16. At 20, he entered the Royal Military Academy in Sandhurst. After graduating from Sandhurst in September 1962, he joined the British Army and was posted to the 1st Battalion, The Cameronians ;KW\\Q[P :QÆM[ [MZ^QVO _Q\P \PMU QV /MZUIVa for one year. He also held a staff appointment with the British Army. In 1970, His Majesty took over the reins of power and the new sultan confronted insurgency in a country plagued by endemic disease, illiteracy, and poverty. His Majesty the Sultan established a modern government structure and launched a major development programme to upgrade educational and health facilities, build modern infrastructure, and develop the country’s natural resources. Since his accession in 1970, His Majesty the Sultan has balanced tribal, regional, and ethnic interests in composing the national administration.
Achievements of Oman
His Majesty the Sultan has long put himself as father and protector of this legendary land. With the recently discovered oil wealth, His Majesty the Sultan pulled the country up from an impoverished backwater to a modern state and a major player in the Middle East and was one of the founders of Gulf Cooperation Countries /++ 7UIV PI[ LM^MTWXML [QOVQÅKIV\Ta QV all domains especially in education and health. Under His Majesty the Sultan’s leadership, Oman witnessed a dramatic transformation. In 1970, there were only three formal schools with 900 students across the country. The total number of students in the Sultanate’s schools during the academic year (2016/2017) at different levels was 748,308 with an average of 26 students per class and 11 students per teacher in 1,725 schools. These schools comprised 28,879 classes, while the number of teachers was 68,384 teachers, according to data released by the National Center for Statistics and Information. The Sultan Qaboos University was established in 1986 and is a leading role model in higher education and community service and is internationally recognized for innovative research, quality of its graduates, and strategic partnerships. There are many other colleges and universities in Oman today that too are an asset. Statistics reveal that there were just two hospitals in 1970, but as of today, there are 74 hospitals with around 6,588

beds, above 109 health centres (with beds), 183 health centres without beds, and 23 extended health centres. The number of private hospitals also increased, from three in 2003 to 19 in 2016. There was also an increase in the number of private clinics, which rose from 675 in 2003 to 1,105 in 2016. Oman was ranked 8th for the quality of roads, according to the World Economic Forum’s 2014 Global Competitiveness Index. While there was only 15 km of asphalted roads in 1970, currently there is 36,958 km of paved roads. Additionally, it is expected that Oman’s transport infrastructure sector will continue to grow, particularly surrounding the development of the country’s road and railway network. Detailing the nation’s economic progress, the GDP has risen considerably, indicating that the economy is strong and the nation is moving forward. While in 1970 the GDP was OMR104.7 million, at present it is OMR25,489.8 million.

Oman enjoys an unspoilt culture and traditional lifestyle with rich values. The Omani economy has grown through a series of developmental plans; this was further reinforced in 1996 with the unveiling of the Vision2020 of Oman. This long-term plan outlines the economic and social goals of the country and sets out a framework for achieving sustainable development that further strengthen the county’s integration into the global economy. The main policies of the vision include LQ^MZ[QÅKI\QWV WN \PM MKWVWUa P]UIV ZM[W]ZKM development, enhanced standard of living, expanding the role of private sector, openness to the world’s markets, which is the cornerstone of Oman’s economic policy, and attract foreign investments.
Oman’s Vision2020 seeks to provide a stable framework for the Omani economy, reduce reliance on oil, diversify sources of income, stimulate and develop the private sector, develop the country’s human resources and attract more investments. Bimmah Sink Hole Located about an hour-and-a-half drive from Muscat towards the coastal town of Sur, Bimmah Sink Hole is inside the Hawiyat Najm Park. Locals say that the hole was the result of a meteor fall, but it came about naturally due to limestone erosion and the collapse of rocks forming what you see. The water is very cold and you can swim in it or get a pedicure from small fishes nibbling on your feet as you sit dangling your legs in the water.

Jebel Akhdar Jebel Akhdar, meaning the Green Mountain in Arabic, is one of the most spectacular areas and is a trekker’s paradise located 150km from the capital city. The mountain is part of the Al Hajar mountain ranges in Ad Dakhiliyah Governorate of Oman and is between 50 to 100 km in land from the Gulf of Oman coast. In a bid to conserve its unique biodiversity, Sultan Qaboos bin Said designated a nature reserve in August. The range receives 300mm of precipitation annually, and is known for its traditional rose water extraction and agricultural products including pomegranates, walnuts, apricots, black grapes and peaches.

اﻟﺠﺒﻞ اCﺧﻀﺮ اﻟﺠﺒﻞ اCﺧﻀﺮ اﺳﻢ ﻋﻠﻰ ﻣﺴﻤﻰ ﺣﻴﺚ اﻟﺨﻀﺮة ﻫﻲ أول ﻣﺎ ﻳﻄﺎﻟﻊ اﻟﻨﺎﻇﺮ ،وﻳﻌﺪ اﻟﺠﺒﻞ اCﺧﻀﺮ ﺟﻨﺔ ﻟﻠﻤﺸﺎﻫﺪة ﻓﻲ ﺳﻠﻄﻨﺔ ﻋﻤﺎن .ﻳﻘﻊ اﻟﺠﺒﻞ اCﺧﻀﺮ ﻋﻠﻰ ﻣﻘﺮﺑﺔ ١٥٠ﻛﻠﻢ ﻣﻦ اﻟﻌﺎﺻﻤﺔ .ﻋﻠﻤﺎ ﺑﺄن اﻟﺠﺒﻞ ﺟﺰء ﻣﻦ ﺳﻠﺴﻠﺔ ﺟﺒﺎل اﻟﺤﺠﺮ ﻓﻲ ﻣﺤﺎﻓﻈﺔ اﻟﺪاﺧﻠﻴﺔ ﺑﺎﻟﺴﻠﻄﻨﺔ ،واﻟﻤﺴﺎﻓﺔ ﺑﻴﻨﻪ وﺑﻴﻦ ﺳﺎﺣﻞ ﺧﻠﻴﺞ ﻋﻤﺎن ﺣﻮاﻟﻲ ٥٠إﻟﻰ ١٠٠ﻛﻠﻢ .وﻣﻦ أﺟﻞ اﻟﻤﺤﺎﻓﻈﺔ ﻋﻠﻰ اﻟﺘﻨﻮع أCﺣﻴﺎﺋﻲ اﻟﻔﺮﻳﺪ ﻓﻲ ﻫﺬه اﻟﺒﻘﻌﺔ اﻟﺴﻴﺎﺣﻴﺔ أﺻﺪر ﺟﻼﻟﺔ اﻟﺴﻠﻄﺎن ﻗﺎﺑﻮس ﺑﻦ ﺳﻌﻴﺪ ﻓﻲ ﺷﻬﺮ أﻏﺴﻄﺲ ﻣﺮﺳﻮﻣﺎ ﺳﻠﻄﺎﻧﻴﺎ ﻳﻌﻠﻦ ﻣﻨﻄﻘﺔ اﻟﺠﺒﻞ اCﺧﻀﺮ ﻣﺤﻤﻴﺔ ﻃﺒﻴﻌﻴﺔ .ﺗﻬﻄﻞ ﻋﻠﻰ ﺳﻠﺴﻠﺔ اﻟﺠﺒﺎل أﻣﻄﺎر ﺑﻤﻌﺪل ٣٠٠ﻣﻠﻢ ﺳﻨﻮﻳﺎ ،واﻟﺴﻠﺴﻠﺔ ﻣﺸﻬﻮرة ﺑﺄﻧﻬﺎ ﻣﻨﻄﻘﺔ ﻻﺳﺘﺨﻼص ﻣﺎء اﻟﻮرد اﻟﺘﻘﻠﻴﺪي ،وﺑﺰراﻋﺔ ﻋﺪد ﻣﻦ اﻟﻤﻨﺘﺠﺎت اﻟﺰراﻋﻴﺔ ﻣﻨﻬﺎ اﻟﺮﻣﺎن ،وﺟﻮز اﻟﻬﻨﺪ ،واﻟﻤﺸﻤﺶ ،واﻟﻌﻨﺐ اCﺳﻮد ،واﻟﺨﻮخ.

Jebel Shams The Sultanate’s highest mountain Jebel Shams or Sun mountain is 3009m above the sea level is in the heart of the Hajar mountain ranges in the Al Dakhiliyah Governorate. The temperatures up in the mountain are mild and are usually 10-15°C cooler than down at Al Hamra. The area is best known not for its peak but for the view into the spectacularly deep WadiGhul lying alongside it. The straightsided WadiGhul is known locally as the Grand Canyon of Arabia. Even the drive up to the peak is quite adventurous.

ﺟﺒﻞ ﺷﻤﺲ ﻳﻌﺘﺒﺮ ﺟﺒﻞ ﺷﻤﺲ أﻋﻠﻰ ﺟﺒﺎل ﺳﻠﻄﺔ ﻋﻤﺎن ﺣﻴﺚ ﻳﺒﻠﻎ ارﺗﻔﺎﻋﻪ ٣٠٠٩ﻣﺘﺮ ﻓﻮق ﺳﻄﺢ اﻟﺒﺤﺮ ،وﻳﻘﻊ ﻓﻲ ﻗﻠﺐ ﺳﻠﺴﻠﺔ ﺟﺒﺎل اﻟﺤﺠﺮ، ﻓﻲ ﻣﺤﺎﻓﻈﺔ اﻟﺪاﺧﻠﻴﺔ .درﺟﺔ اﻟﺤﺮارة ﻣﻌﺘﺪﻟﺔ أﻋﻠﻰ اﻟﺠﺒﻞ ،ﺣﻴﺚ ﺗﻜﻮن ﻋﺎدة أﻛﺜﺮ ﺑﺮودة ﻣﻦ ﻣﻨﻄﻘﺔ اﻟﺤﻤﺮا اﻟﻤﻨﺨﻔﻀﺔ ،ﺑﻤﻌﺪل ﻋﻞ ١٠إﻟﻰ ١٥درﺟﺔ ﻣﺌﻮﻳﺔ .وﺑﺎﻟﺮﻏﻢ ﻣﻦ أن اﻟﻤﻨﻄﻘﺔ ﻣﺸﻬﻮرة ﺑﻘﻤﻢ ﺟﺒﺎﻟﻬﺎ اﻟﺸﺎﻫﻘﺔ ،إﻻ أن روﻋﺘﻬﺎ ﺗﺘﺠﻠﻰ ﻓﻲ اﻟﻤﻨﻈﺮ اﻟﺮاﺋﻊ ﻣﻦ ٍ ﻟﻮادي ﻏﻮل ،اﻟﺬي ﻳﻤﺘﺪ ﻋﻠﻰ اﻟﻐﻮر ﻣﺤﺎذﻳﺎ ﻟﺴﻠﺴﻠﺔ اﻟﺠﺒﺎل .وﻳﻌﺮف وادي اﻟﻐﻮل اﻟﻤﻤﺘﺪ ﺑﻤﺤﺎذاة اﻟﺴﻠﺴﻠﺔ ﻣﺤﻠﻴﺎ ﺑﺎﺳﻢ اﻟﻤﻀﻴﻖ اﻟﻜﺒﻴﺮ ﻟﺸﺒﻪ اﻟﺠﺰﻳﺮة اﻟﻌﺮﺑﻴﺔ .وﺗﻌﺘﺒﺮ اﻟﺴﻴﺎﻗﺔ Cﻋﻠﻰ ﻗﻤﺔ ﺟﺒﻞ ﺷﻤﺲ ﻣﻐﺎﻣﺮة ﻣﻤﺘﻌﺔ.

Masirah Island Masirah is an island off the east coast of the Sultanate and is 95-km long and between 12 and 14 km wide. The island slowly started to appear on the travellers’ radar in the 1990s and it holds interest for anyone seeking a real desert island experience. Its deserted beaches and interesting wildlife are the main draws. Camping is probably still the most common way of experiencing Masirah but there are also a handful of small, new hotels. The main village is Ras-Hilf in the northern part of the island. You have to take a ferry from Shannah to reach the island.

ﺟﺰﻳﺮة ﻣﺼﻴﺮة ﺗﻘﻊ ﺟﺰﻳﺮة ﻣﺼﻴﺮة ﻓﻲ ﻣﻮاﺟﻬﺔ اﻟﺴﺎﺣﻞ اﻟﺸﺮﻗﻲ ﻟﺴﻠﻄﻨﺔ ﻋﻤﺎن ،وﻳﺒﻠﻎ ﻃﻮل اﻟﺠﺰﻳﺮة ٩٥ﻛﻠﻢ ،ﺑﻴﻨﻤﺎ ﻳﺘﺮاوح ﻋﺮﺿﻬﺎ ﺑﻴﻦ ١٢إﻟﻰ ١٤ ﻛﻠﻢ ﺗﻘﺮﻳﺒﺎ .وﻗﺪ ﺑﺪأت اﻟﺠﺰﻳﺮة ﺗﻤﺜﻞ ﻣﺮﻛﺰا ﺟﺎذﺑﺎ ﻻﻫﺘﻤﺎم اﻟﺴﻮاح واﻟﺰوار ﻣﻨﺬ ﻣﻄﻠﻊ اﻟﺘﺴﻌﻴﻨﺎت ،ﻣﻦ اﻟﻘﺮن اﻟﻤﺎﺿﻲ ،ﺣﻴﺚ ﺗﻌﺘﺒﺮ ﺷﻮاﻃﺌﻬﺎ اﻟﺨﺎﻟﻴﺔ اﻟﻤﻤﺘﺪة ،وﺗﻨﻮع اﻟﺤﻴﺎة اﻟﺒﺮﻳﺔ ﻓﻴﻬﺎ ،ﻋﻨﺎﺻﺮ ﺟﺎذﺑﺔ ﻟﻨﺎﺷﺪي اﻟﻤﺨﻴﻤﺎت واﻟﺘﺨﻴﻴﻢ ،ﻓﺎﻟﻤﺨﻴﻤﺎت ﻫﻲ ﻣﻦ أﻋﻈﻢ اﻟﻤﺘﻊ ﻓﻲ ﺟﺰﻳﺮة ﻣﺼﻴﺮة ،ﻋﻠﻤﺎ ﺑﺄن ﻫﻨﺎك ﺑﻌﺾ اﻟﻔﻨﺎدق اﻟﺠﺪﻳﺪة اﻟﺘﻲ ﻇﻬﺮت ﻣﺆﺧﺮا ﻋﻠﻰ اﻟﺠﺰﻳﺮة .وﺗﻌﺘﺒﺮ راس اﻟﺤﻠﻒ اﻟﻘﺮﻳﺔ اﻟﺮﺋﻴﺴﻴﺔ ﻓﻲ اﻟﺠﺰﻳﺮة ،ﺣﻴﺚ ﺗﻘﻊ ﻓﻲ اﻟﺠﺰء اﻟﺸﻤﺎﻟﻲ ﻣﻨﻬﺎ .وﻣﻦ أﺟﻞ اﻟﻮﺻﻮل إﻟﻰ اﻟﺠﺰﻳﺮة ﻳﻤﻜﻨﻜﻢ اﺳﺘﻐﻼل اﻟﻌﺒﺎرة اﻧﻄﻼﻗﺎ ﻣﻦ ﺷﻨﺎص.

Ras al-Jinz The Ras AI Jinz beach is world renowned for the nesting endangered green turtle, Cheloniamydas, probably the most important nesting concentration in the Indian Ocean. This is the only place where the public can watch the nesting process of these amazing sea giants. The Turtle Reserve was established by a Royal Decree in 1996. The Ras AI Jinz Turtle Centre was established in 2008 to help monitor the fascinating and amazing nesting processes of these giants of the marine turtle world.

Sur Located 150km away from Muscat, Sur is the headquarters of the Ash Sharqiyah Governorate and can be reached in two hours as it is dream drive. The ancient city was an important destination for sailors and is renowned for its shipbuilding industry. The dhow is still built here and you can see a museum for dhows in the centre of the city. The Lighthouse in Al Ayga near the newly built suspension bride, is spectacular during the night.

Wadi Bani Khalid Another must-see spot in Oman, WadiBani Khalid is the most famous of all wadis in the Sultanate located in the eastern Al Hajar mountain ranges. It is about 255km away from Muscat, and 15km from Sur, near the Muscat-Sur highway. The wadi comprises a long series of plantations and villages that lie in or close to the wadi. All year round, water flows from a natural spring in the upper reaches of the wadi, supporting the abundant vegetation that makes it such a beautiful spot.

وادي ﺑﻨﻲ ﺧﺎﻟﺪ ﻫﺬه ﻧﻘﻄﺔ ﺳﻴﺎﺣﻴﺔ أﺧﺮى ﺟﺪﻳﺮة ﺑﺎﻟﻤﺸﺎﻫﺪة ﻓﻲ ﺳﻠﻄﻨﺔ ﻋﻤﺎن ،ﺣﻴﺚ ﻳﻌﺘﺒﺮ وادي ﺑﻨﻲ ﺧﺎﻟﺪ ﻣﻦ أﺷﻬﺮ اﻟﻮدﻳﺎن ﻓﻲ اﻟﺴﻠﻄﻨﺔ وﻳﻘﻊ ﻓﻲ ﻣﻨﻄﻘﺔ ﺳﻠﺴﻠﺔ ﺟﺒﺎل اﻟﺤﺠﺮ ،ﻋﻠﻰ ﻣﻘﺮﺑﺔ ٢٢٥ﻛﻠﻢ ﻣﻦ ﻣﺪﻳﻨﺔ ﻣﺴﻘﻂ ،و ١٥ﻛﻠﻢ ﻣﻦ ﻣﺪﻳﻨﺔ ﺻﻮر ،ﻋﻠﻰ اﻟﻘﺮب ﻣﻦ ﻃﺮﻳﻖ ﻣﺴﻘﻂ -ﺻﻮر .وﻳﺸﺘﻤﻞ اﻟﻮادي ﻋﻠﻰ ﺳﻠﺴﻠﺔ ﻃﻮﻳﻠﺔ ﻣﻦ اﻟﻤﺰارع واﻟﻘﺮى اﻟﺘﻲ ﺗﻘﻊ ﻓﻲ وﺳﻂ اﻟﻮادي أو ﻋﻠﻰ ﻣﻘﺮﺑﺔ ﻣﻨﻪ. وﺗﺠﺮي اﻟﻤﻴﺎه ﻓﻲ اﻟﻮادي ﻋﻠﻰ ﻃﻮل اﻟﻌﺎم ،ﻣﻦ ﻧﺒﻊ ﻃﺒﻴﻌﻲ ﻓﻲ أﻋﻠﻰ اﻟﻘﻤﻢ اﻟﺠﺒﻠﻴﺔ اﻟﻤﺤﺎذﻳﺔ ﻟﻠﻮادي ،ﻟﺴﻘﻲ اﻟﻤﺰارع اﻟﺨﻀﺮاء اﻟﺘﻲ ﺗﻠﺒﺲ اﻟﻮادي ﺣﻠﺘﻪ اﻟﺨﻀﺮاء اﻟﺰاﻫﻴﺔ.

Wadi Daiqah Wadi Daiqah is in a canyon about 90 kilometers east of the Bait Hattat (Wadi Adai) roundabout in Muscat and is part the scenic northeastern foothills of the Eastern Hajar Mountains. The Wadi Daiqah Dam is an impressive sight, with so much water for a desert region like Oman. The setting is beautiful and many families drive up to the park near the dam to spend a weekend with a nice picnic on the well-maintained park.

Wadi Shab Less than two hours’ drive from capital, Wadi Shab is located in the Al Sharqiyah Governorate. Very popular with the expatriates in the Sultanate, it is a busy place during public holidays. The chief attraction here is a waterfall inside a cave that you reach after around 45 minutes hike and swimming through a pool of flowing water. There is a short swim under the water to reach the beautiful sight of the waterfall.

As Sifah Situated around 30km away from the city, As Sifah Beach is an ideal place for overnight camping and barbequing. There is also a mix of planned residential units, comfortable hotels, restaurants, an 84-berth marina, an 18-hole PGA golf course, and shopping avenues, providing refuge from the busy city. It is an hour’s drive from the airport or you can take a sea taxi ride from the Marina Bandar near Sidab.

Salalah - Mughsail The capital of the Governorate of Dhofar is the second largest city in the Sultanate. Salalah is the birthplace of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said and attracts lots of people from other parts of Oman and the Arabian Gulf region during Khareef season from July to September. The climate of the region and the monsoon allows the city to grow some vegetables and fruits like coconut and banana. The city is dotted with many farms where these vegetables and fruits are grown.

Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex The Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex is a government owned multi-purpose stadium in Boshar, Muscat. It is currently used mostly for football matches, and also has facilities for athletics. It originally had a capacity of over 40,000, but after recent renovations the capacity was reduced to 34,000 people. It is the home stadium of the Oman national football team.

Muttrah Muttrah is located in Muscat Governorate and before the discovery of oil, it was the centre of commerce in Oman. It is still a centre of commerce as one of the largest sea ports of the region is located there. Other landmarks include Souq Muttrah, a traditional bazaar and Sour Al Lawatiah, a small community of houses surrounded by an old wall. The corniche is one of the main tourist attractions of the district and weekends see many families spending time here at the various parks in the area.
