Rick Hanke, passionate windsurfer and retired aerospace engineer, started to professionally design fins in November 2007. The result were MUFins: German engineered, Maui developed and tested! Featuring profiles with a higher performance, he developed wave fins with a completely new concept: stiff with a fairly straight leading edge and much less area. Windsurfers, surfers and SUPers of any level are all fascinated by these outstanding fins. They are radical, fast, easy to control, spin-outresistant and have very good upwind capabilities! As a result Maui Ultra Fins quickly became recognized worldwide and are used by many professional riders worldwide.

The wave fin features an unmatched combination of speed, grip, manoeuvrability and power. With a straight elliptical outline it clearly outperforms the classic dolphin type wave fins. The cutback will blow your mind. The fins perform in all conditions like onshore, sideshore, bump&jump and flat water - an ideal all-terrain fin. Best suited: Big waves, onshore conditions and heavier sailors
The C-Wave is a more classic wave outline but has the same power and characteristics as the Wave fin. Easy planing, lots of control and agility. Solid in any condition from sideshore to onshore. It simply lets you forget your fin. Best suited: All waves, on- and sideshore
The X-Wave is another revolutionary design because it provides the same characteristics and performance in speed, grip and manoeuvrability as the Wave fin. The cut-out near the tip gives you the extra looseness you want in cutbacks. A new benchmark for wave fins was set with this design. It gives the fin unbelievable looseness when waveriding and makes the cutback an unforgettable experience. Philip´s single fin when sailing onshore Sylt. Best suited: All waves, on- and sideshore

X-Tri fins are the side fins in a trifin-setup. They are identical to the X-twins but shorter and therefore have less area. Still, the exceptional characteristics in speed, grip and manoeuvrability are achieved. Combined with a single X-Twin, an X-Tri fin set is the ideal configuration for all conditions - Robby Swift´s favourites! Best suited: All waves, on- and sideshore
X-Quad fins are the thruster fins for a quad board. Scaled down from the legendary X-Twin the thruster-set in combination with an X-Twin-set in the rear gives your board extreme performance, agility and confidence in any situation. Pros like Fabian Weber, Peter Volwater and Florian Jung simply love these fins. Best suited: All waves, on- and sideshore
Having more rake, X-Quad-S solve the weed problem that you can also experience with smaller fins. Just like their counterpart, the X-Quad, they turn extremely well and plane easily. Best suited: Wave, on- to sideshore, weedy conditions

a t del fins
With the Delta wing series we have introduced a completely new category of fins. Inspired by the aeronautic Delta wings, Rick has transferred the special aerodynamic features to windsurfing applications: • very short wing span combined with a large area • very thin and stiff profiles • high rake of 55 degrees • additional lift due to leading edge vortex at high angles of attack
All these features make the Delta fins the ultimate tool for shallow spots, extremely weedy conditions and speed sailing. Compared to a straight freeride or slalom fin, the fin length can be about halved. Combined with the high rake, the danger of injury by touching ground is greatly reduced. Speed sailors can finally use the flat conditions of tidal waters for even higher speeds. Our Delta wings are fast, easy to control, have great upwind abilities and jibe very well in wide and medium arcs. 14

A windsurfer’s dream has come true: Never a spin-out again with the magic Nospin fin. We achieved this goal with the latest foil technology that allows extremely high angles of attack and provides too much lateral force for a rider to overcome. This inherent Spin-Out Protection (ISOP) always brings you back on track, keeps you out of trouble and makes you a better sailor. Breathtaking upwind performance. Best suited: All conditions, bump&jump, heavy riders

Weed fins are often less powerful and more spin-out prone compared to normal fins as they require a high rake angle of about 40 degrees. Our Weed fin eliminates this all too common decrease in performance with its efficient outline and more area. So finally there is no difference in fin characteristics to a conventionally raked fin concerning agility, upwind performance and spin-out resistance. Our Weed fin works extremely well in waves and on flat water. That was officially documented by winning the German SURF test (issue 9/2011)!
The newly developed Delta is the ideal freeride fin for shallow waters which are encountered at many European and Carribean spots. The high rake also solves those frequent weed problems and softens ground contact. Compared to a straight freeride fin, the length can almost be halved. The Delta is a fast fin with good upwind characteristics. Best suited: Freeride / Freemove at shallow and very weedy spots

The Delta SUP is a multi-purpose SUP fin designed to excel in several applications like waves, cruising and especially racing in weed conditions. The short length makes your SUP very agile in waves. Yet, it has enough area to help you go straight in a race. The Delta SUP is produced in a mold using performance core material which makes it light and stiff. The carbon version is the fin suited for the professional racer. Available - also as carbon version - as of autumn 2012. Best suited: SUP in all conditions; especially racing (carbon version)

Everybody knows the fumbling with US-box fins: The fin tab must be put into the exact spot to find the thread with the screw. Those times are over! Using Quick n‘ Easy the fin is attached to the board within seconds. The solution is simple and genius at the same time: A slot in the fin base allows you to insert the screw already attached to the tab into the box. You can then move tab & screw freely towards the fin. The fin head can then be screwed into the fin base and nothing interrupts the water flow. All our US-Box-fins are equipped with the comfortable Quick n‘ Easy system.

We want to help you with this page to find the correct size for your fin. Following the diagrams*, you get a recommendation based on board volume/sail size. Please be aware of the important note below:
Board volume in litres
Recommended sizes for multi-fin setups cannot that easily be depicted. However, you will get useful advice on the correct choice in relation to fin areas* Multi-fin boards have been developed to increase agility with shorter fins especially when riding waves. The needed fin area can be approximately shown in a drawing. Several fin setups are shown from behind in a tight turn (left diagram).
Board volume in litres
Max. sail size in m2
Board volume in litres
Fin length in cm
Fin length in cm
That means that the effective fin area is greatly reduced in radical maneuvers. To stay stable and spin-out free, the remaining fin area must match that of a corresponding single fin. Consequently the total fin area of multi-fin boards must be bigger than that of a single fin. Setting the single fin area to 1, we can see how much fin area is needed in comparison. Taking a single 22 cm wave fin with an area 200 cm2, the following approximate areas are needed (200 cm2 x the individual factor):
Fin length in cm
important: All advice is based on a body weight of 80 kg. For each 10 kg more/less, the next bigger/smaller size should be chosen. All recommendations shall be seen as approximate sizes. The best fin size can vary, depending on other factors (skills, board width, conditions etc.).
26
Using multi-fin setups, some of the fins leave the water partly or completely and thus don´t provide any performance in those conditions (tight turns).

- Twin fin Board: 266 cm2 (factor: 1.33) - Tri-fin Board: 266 - 300 cm2 (factor: 1.33-1.5) - Quad fin Board: 400 cm2 (factor: 2.0) - Twin-Quad Board: 332 cm2 (factor: 1.66) For your interest: 400 cm2 is the approximate area of a 48 cm slalom fin! That means that about twice the fin area is used in a quad compared to a single fin board to achieve a much better agility. This extra area also helps to go upwind. Yet, it provides more drag and interactions between the fins further reduce their efficiency. When designing these fins, the different conditions have to be taken into account. Sailing straight, all fins are in the water, when turning, some have less grip. All these interactions will guarantee ample design tasks for years to come. We are determined to continue providing the best multi fins possible.
