A year like no other. Dear Founders, Donors, Volunteers, and Friends, Thank you to all of you who, by your contributions, support, and generosity, make our community better to live in … to work in … to play in. As the highlights below show, the kindness of our donors, the commitment of our staff, and the leadership of our Board of Trustees, combined with the engagement of area businesses and nonprofit agencies, make the Foundation’s mission a reality. We strengthen our community by offering donors opportunities to establish charitable legacies, • ECCF received over 2 million dollars in donations in 2014 – a record breaking year! • Donors established 26 new funds, including 7 donor advised funds, 5 designated scholarship funds, 4 agency endowment funds, 4 pass-through funds, 2 field of interest funds, 3 acorn funds, and 1 unrestricted fund. • The Foundation established ECCF Realty, LLC, to hold tangible personal property and real estate between donation and sale. We received and sold our first real property gift in 2014 – turn to page 6 to read about it! • The Women’s Giving Circle focused on growing membership in 2014 with a “Friendraising” initiative. The Circle has over 190 members, including 7 lifetime members! by making grants, • ECCF awarded more than $400,000 in grants, the most in its history, to 99 nonprofit organizations. • The Eau Claire Public Schools Foundation also had an outstanding year – granting over $91,000 to the Eau Claire Area School District and establishing 4 new funds – 2 pass-through funds, 1 donor advised fund, and 1 field of interest fund. and by serving as a catalyst to address community needs. • Thanks to an Otto Bremer Foundation grant, the Foundation has a new website with added features to support our donors, nonprofits, and our grant process. See it at www.eccommunityfoundation.org. • Over 325 guests attended the 13th Annual Children’s Legacy Luncheon in April, the largest audience ever. If you haven’t attended, you should! Don’t miss the 2015 luncheon on April 23rd at The Florian Gardens. • Two new funds – the Confluence Building Fund and the Confluence Building Endowment Fund, were established by Donors to hold community contributions for the arts center portion of the Confluence project. ECCF is pleased to play a part in this exciting regional growth opportunity. Learn more about how the Foundation’s mission benefits us all by reading this annual report, visiting our website, or by stopping in at the Foundation’s recently expanded office in the Barstow Court Building. Continued record-breaking years, like 2014, will support increased grants to our amazing community nonprofits. To ensure the most possible dollars are available for grants, the Foundation continues to keep its expenses under 3% of its net assets each year by focusing on efficient, sustainable practices. BJ and Bea Farmer have contributed significantly to the Eau Claire Community Foundation. Both are Society of Founders members who were instrumental in its creation. BJ has served as the ECCF’s Vice Chair and Treasurer as well as on its Development and Investment Committees. Bea helped found the Women’s Giving Circle and, with BJ, established the BJ and Bea Farmer Family Fund to address the community’s most pressing needs. The ECCF thanks the Farmers for their extraordinary generosity.

In 2012, the Eau Claire Community Foundation completed recertification of compliance with National Standards for all U.S. community foundations as set by the Council on Foundations. The Foundation goes through certification every five years.

Jim and Kathy Pinter Society of Founders Members

There are very few charitable activities in the Eau Claire area that have not benefited from the efforts of Jim and Kathy Pinter. In particular, their work with the Eau Claire Community Foundation will benefit local nonprofits for years to come. Jim and Kathy Pinter are members of the ECCF’s Society of Founders and Legacy Society. Jim helped establish the ECCF in 1997 and form its Development Committee in 1999. He rejoined the committee in 2004 as Chair and served on the Board of Trustees from 2005-2013. His knowledge and expertise in development and his commitment to the ECCF’s ‘Leave a Legacy’ campaign were instrumental in the growth of its Legacy Society membership.

“It’s important to meet the needs of today,” Jim noted, “But we must also look to the future. We need to ensure that the Eau Claire Community Foundation is truly, as its motto says, ‘For Good. For Eau Claire. Forever.’ Encouraging people to establish legacies is an important step toward meeting that goal.” Jim has always believed that giving in any form benefits the entire Chippewa Valley. He puts his Pinter Platitudes into action: prayer, purpose, passion, planning, preparation, practice, positive affirmations, personality, participation, and persistence.

SOCIETY OF FOUNDERS

Kathy is a founding and continuing member of the Women’s Giving Circle, a fund that supports area nonprofits serving women and children. She is a very generous financial supporter of the W.G.C. and has encouraged many new members to join, growing the W.G.C. and increasing its giving power. With Jim, she established the Jim and Kathy Pinter Mental Health Fund, a field of interest fund that supports nonprofit organizations that handle mental health issues in adults and youth. Through their generous contributions of time, money, effort, and expertise, the Pinters have made a lasting contribution to the greater Eau Claire area.

The Legacy Society welcomes new members. When you complete a nonbinding, confidential Statement of Intent, we can honor your charitable wishes and help you create your own Legacy. You can designate your gift to any ECCF fund or the ECCF Operations Fund. You can also establish your own fund at the Foundation to benefit your favorite nonprofit organizations or causes.

Field of Interest Fund

Edna Hood Memorial Fund Legacy Spotlight

Edna Hood spent many years improving lives in the Chippewa Valley and, thanks to her foresight in creating a Legacy Fund, she’ll continue to do so far into the future. Edna was born in Corsicana, Texas, to Leona (Skelton) and Reuben Thomas Hood on May 22, 1933. She grew up in various parts of Texas and graduated from high school in Sherman, Texas. She attained her Bachelor’s Degree from Austin College and went on to attain a Master’s Degree from the University of Boulder and a Doctorate from UW-Madison. In 1965, Edna joined the English Department faculty at UW-Eau Claire, where she was loved and respected by her students and colleagues. She retired as a full professor in 1994. In 2007, Edna created her first fund at the Eau Claire Community Foundation. Aubre’s Fund is a Field of Interest Fund that she established in memory of her little sister, Aubre Marilyn Hood, who died as an infant. Its purpose is to help enhance the quality of life for children and companion animals in the greater Eau Claire area.

Now, thanks to her Legacy Fund, Edna’s generosity will continue to improve lives far into the future. Edna loved to travel and spent many summers visiting friends and traveling in Europe with her companion Jeanne and other friends. She also loved music and theatre. Some of her favorite trips included concerts and theatre performances in London, New York, The Kennedy Center, and The Guthrie in Minneapolis.

LEGACY FUND SPOTLIGHT

Although she passed away on Sep. 8, 2014, Edna will be long remembered for her generosity. She was passionate in her support of organizations and causes that were important to her. Among other things, Edna was an active member of Clear Water Kiwanis and the Eau Claire County Democratic Party for many years. She was also a member of the Eau Claire Community Foundation’s Legacy Society as well as a Founder and member of the Women’s Giving Circle. Edna had created the Edna Hood Memorial Fund by specifying in her will that she would leave the residue of her estate to the Eau Claire Community Foundation. She also made the Foundation a beneficiary of a tax deferred annuity, a qualified retirement plan, and a money market/savings account. In establishing her legacy, Edna has ensured that her generosity will live on for years to come.

Unrestricted Fund

Daniel F. and Margaret J. Brown Memorial Fund Legacy Spotlight

Margaret and Daniel Brown spent many years enhancing Eau Claire’s quality of life and, although both of them have now passed on, their legacy of philanthropy lives on. The Browns, both Wisconsin natives, accomplished much in their long lives. Among other achievements, they opened a successful Eau Claire law practice in 1967. In 1974, Daniel became president of the state attorneys’ bar association. In 1983, he semi-retired but still remained active in the Barnes and Brown Law Firm. The Browns enjoyed spending their summers on Lake Holcomb. Daniel passed away in 2008 at the age of 91, and Margaret followed in 2012 at the age of 96. Before their passing, though, they had joined the Eau Claire Community Foundation’s Legacy Society as anonymous members and made a bequest to create the Daniel F. and Margaret J. Brown Memorial Fund upon their deaths. This unrestricted fund has grown from an establishing gift of $400,000 to a current balance of more than $485,000, and it has already funded more than $25,000 in grants. Making a bequest, as the Browns did, is an option that anyone can explore. A bequest allows the donor to leave the Eau Claire Community Foundation a specific dollar amount, a percentage of his or her estate, or a conditional bequest. It is the easiest and most popular way for donors to make a future commitment. Doing so can be as simple as inserting a sentence such as the following into your will:

Becoming a Legacy Society member by making a bequest, as the Browns did, is an option that anyone can explore. “I give and bequeath $___________ to the Eau Claire Community Foundation, 306 South Barstow Street, Suite 104, Eau Claire, WI 54701, a State of Wisconsin Corporation, to support its giving purposes.” If you would like more information on making a bequest, please feel free to contact the Eau Claire Community Foundation at (715) 552-3801 for assistance. The staff will make every effort to assist you in determining a giving plan that benefits both you and the Eau Claire community. Should you designate a deferred gift to the Eau Claire Community Foundation, you will be recognized as a member of the Legacy Society. Current and future members of the Legacy Society will, as the Browns did, ensure that local nonprofits remain strong and the quality of life in Eau Claire remains high for years to come.

Unrestricted Fund

Goff Family Fund Fund Spotlight

Although Phyllis Goff spent much of her childhood in California, she’s made a tremendous impact on Wisconsin’s quality of life. Thanks to her newly created fund, that impact will continue far into the future.

Limelight or no limelight, she encourages everyone to be philanthropic as well. “It just makes you feel good knowing that other people are benefiting,” she observed.

Phyllis was born in Dunn County, but her family moved to California when she was barely out of the third grade. They returned to Wisconsin in 1942, and not long thereafter, she met John Goff; the couple married in 1946.

The Goffs celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary in 2011, shortly before John passed away at the age of 90. In 2014, Phyllis donated a piece of real estate to the Eau Claire Community Foundation. The newly created ECCF Realty, LLC. held the property until it was sold. After expenses, the remainder established the Goff Family Fund, an unrestricted fund intended to meet the community’s most pressing needs. In establishing this fund, Phyllis has continued her family’s legacy of contributing to the community. In just one example of her generosity, she helped fund a lift in Pleasant Valley Lutheran Church so that everyone, regardless of physical disabilities, would have equal access to its facilities. Phyllis is also passionate about genealogy. Tracing the diverse branches of her family and seeing the relationships among her ancestors has caused her to observe how interconnected all people are. That observation encourages Phyllis’s natural generosity. However, Phyllis is as modest as she is generous. “I try not to advertise it much because I don’t feel I’m doing more than other people are,” she said. “I’m not used to that whole limelight stuff.”

In creating the Goff Family Fund, Phyllis has ensured that Eau Claire area nonprofits and the people they serve will be benefiting for years to come.

Terry and Flo Sheridan Family Fund

Eau Claire Community Foundation Fund Spotlight In 2014, Eau Claire won an All-America City Award for its outstanding, community based civic accomplishments. This award reflects the commitment and generosity of many area citizens; Terry and Flo Sheridan embody this commitment and generosity. The Sheridans moved to Eau Claire in 1976 and began enhancing the community right away. Terry, an experienced teacher and school administrator, was assistant superintendent for the Eau Claire Area School District. He also served as the first principal of Meadowview Elementary School and willingly returned from retirement to serve as interim school superintendent in 2012. “We assure a better future by positively nurturing our children,” he remarked upon receiving the Children’s Legacy Luncheon Outstanding Achievement Award in 2008, “and we obtain fulfillment through their success.” Flo was an administrator at Newman Catholic Parish for 35 years. A Lifetime Member of the Women’s Giving Circle, Flo also recently joined the Board of the Eau Claire Public Schools Foundation, which she and Terry had helped found. “I look forward to carrying on the legacy we built together,” Flo explained. “Terry and I shared similar affection for the Eau Claire community and a desire to give back in a manner that would benefit future generations.” Above: Kathleen, Terry, Flo, and Kevin Sheridan

Terry and Flo Sheridan Education Fund

Eau Claire Public Schools Foundation Fund Spotlight Although Terry passed away in 2013, that legacy remains strong. He and Flo had established both the Terry and Flo Sheridan Family Fund through the Eau Claire Community Foundation and the Sheridan Education Fund through the Eau Claire Public Schools Foundation. These funds, bolstered by an outpouring of memorial donations upon Terry’s passing, will help strengthen Eau Claire’s schools and nonprofits for years to come. Terry had explained the Sheridans’ reasoning in establishing these funds: “Why through the Community Foundation?” he asked. “We can advise and direct [our funds] to an area most dear to us—children and education. We believe [our funds] will be well managed and invested. [They] will serve future generations, as the Community Foundation serves as a conduit to perpetuate the social contract we benefited from.”

“We feel that our lives have been blessed, and we want to share these blessings with others. ” “We feel that our lives have been blessed,” Flo said, “and we want to share these blessings with others. Our family would like to express our deep gratitude to all the people who donated to both our funds in Terry’s memory.” Thanks in no small part to the Sheridans and their funds, Eau Claire will remain, in Flo’s words, “a quality place to live and a wonderful place to raise a family.”

Give Back for Impact How a Charitable Fund Works The Eau Claire Community Foundation holds more than 140 funds ranging in size from $10,000 to more than $1 million. Each fund is as unique as the donor who creates it. When an individual, family or organization creates a fund, they give it a name and choose its purpose. The Foundation invests these funds in one of our three investment pools. Annually, a portion of each fund is used for making grants according to the wishes of the donor.

Each fund is as unique as the donor who creates it. Acorn Funds are seed funds that build in size until they can begin distributing grants to the community. Donors can invest as little as $500 up front and build the fund with tax deductible donations

for approximately 5 years. Once the Acorn Fund has gathered enough funds to begin granting, we say it is “fully funded”, though that does not mean the fund cannot accept any more donations. Many funds which were once Acorn funds have joined the wide variety of family funds we have at the Foundation. If you prefer not to create a fund, we welcome donations to our Community Fund, which serves the greatest needs of the Community, and to our Operations fund, which helps support the operations of the Foundation. Foundation Fees ECCF administration fees are based on the services offered for each type of fund. These fees, used exclusively to support the ECCF mission, are your investment in promoting charitable giving, connecting donors with causes they care about, and addressing important community issues. Initiatives

Jeffers Park Development Project Two local sports leagues and a citizen group are collaborating to give Eau Claire residents a new place to hear that familiar cry: “Play ball!”

... a place to hear that familiar cry: “Play ball!” The Jeffers Park Development Project is a partnership between Eau Claire National Little League and Eau Claire Fastpitch. In conjunction with the City of Eau Claire Parks and Recreation Department, their mission is to construct Jeffers Park. Located on Eau Claire’s northwest side, Jeffers Park will feature a five field baseball and softball complex, which will offer the first joint boy and girl playing fields in the city and expand playing opportunities for local girls. It will also provide the Jeffers Park neighborhood with much-needed access to a community park, offering a variety of outdoor recreational opportunities and amenities, including a pavilion and hiking trails. Several area businesses are helping with the Jeffers Park Development Project. Ayres Associates drew the park’s site plan, Johnson Litho is printing project materials, and construction of the park pavilion will be led by Royal Construction and other volunteer contractors through the Chippewa Valley Homebuilders Association. Excited community members have started the Jeffers Park Development Fund at the Eau Claire Community Foundation to collect funding and make this project a reality.

Other Initiatives at the Foundation Alliance for Substance Abuse Prevention Through programs implemented by a network of over 100 volunteers, this initiative uses innovative strategies to reduce youth alcohol use in the community.

Flying Eagles Ski Club Hill Improvement Fund The Flying Eagles Ski Club promotes ski jumping, downhill skiing, and cross-country skiing in Eau Claire. This initiative allows the Club to add improvements to the ski jumping area.

Chippewa Valley Regional Computer Forensic Laboratory The two main goals of this innovative partnership between area Police and Sheriff Departments are to locate and preserve digital evidence from computers and electronic devices and to locate, identify, and arrest online child sex predators.

Pinehurst Project This project entails the expansion and rebuilding of the ski hill at Pinehurst Park, on the north side of Eau Claire. Its goal is to promote healthy lifestyle choices through outdoor recreational activity.

Clear Vision This organization’s mission is “to engage our community for the common good,” and its purpose is “to convene, nurture, and support diverse groups of community members for civic work that addresses the needs identified in the Clear Vision Eau Claire plan.” Eau Claire Police Department Special Units Fund Since the inception of the K-9 Unit in 1990, the use of a dog has been an important asset to the Eau Claire Police Department. K-9 dogs assist officers with dangerous tasks and participate in community outreach programs.

Public Spirit Fund The mission of the Eau Claire Public Spirit Fund is to encourage the expression of a community spirit through monetary donations to projects that benefit people in the community. Sculpture Tour Eau Claire Created in 2011, this is an annual exhibit of sculptures located in downtown Eau Claire and on the Mayo Health System Eau Claire campus. ECCF holds an Operations and Endowment fund for Sculpture Tour Eau Claire, Inc.

Summer ARTmobile

Eau Claire Regional Arts Center Program The Eau Claire Regional Arts Center, operated by the Eau Claire Regional Arts Council, Inc., is the Chippewa Valley’s center for arts and entertainment. It provides many forms of arts outreach and serves as a community resource. As such, ECRAC was pleased to accept a $1000 grant to support its ARTmobile program. ECRAC used the grant money to purchase art supplies such as paint, brushes, and storage bins for art supplies. The ARTmobile connects area children with the visual arts and provides fun, relevant, and educational art projects. It stimulates children’s imaginations by providing a diverse array of art mediums and giving them a wide variety of choices for their creations. The ARTmobile reached hundreds of children in the summer of 2014 through sessions in Phoenix Park, at the Farmer’s Market, and at Volume One’s Sounds Like Summer Concerts. The ARTmobile also offers winter sessions at the L.E. Phillips Memorial Public Library and Oakwood Mall. Creating stimulating projects such as sun catchers, Picasso inspired paintings, and Van Gogh themed sunflowers has taught area children and their families the power of paint to transform ordinary objects into beautiful works of art. Children involved in the ARTmobile have come back numerous times to complete a variety of projects. Their enthusiasm speaks to the power of the arts to give children a sense of accomplishment and pride in their own creativity. The generosity of ECCF donors will help ensure that the ARTmobile continues to inspire children far into the future.

Camp Manitou Canoeing Program YMCA

Thanks to support from the Eau Claire Community Foundation, staff at the YMCA’s Camp Manitou had the equipment necessary to operate two simultaneous groups for their wilderness trips. This gave them the flexibility to try new programs, including a 3-day introductory canoe trip for youth entering 6th and 7th grade. The 11- and 12-year old campers who came on the introductory girls’ canoe trip were new to Camp Manitou and canoeing, so leaders taught them important skills before the start of their adventure on the river. The girls were a bit hesitant at first, unsure about what to expect. However, after three days of canoeing and camping in tents along the shore, they returned to Camp Manitou enthusiastic. Erika, one of their leaders, noted, “You could tell in those three days just how much they learned and how confident they’d become.” The girls spent the following week in the main camp. They talked about how proud they were and spent the week telling all of the new friends they were meeting how special the trip was. Excited by the girls’ enthusiasm, Camp Manitou staff members hope to keep growing this program; they find that there are few ways for young people to develop self-confidence and new skills as effectively as spending time unplugged and in the woods. Camp Manitou is grateful to the Eau Claire Community Foundation for its support of the canoeing program.

Top Tutor Training

Literacy Volunteers Chippewa Valley Founded in 1986, Literacy Volunteers Chippewa Valley (LVCV) provides flexible literacy programs to help adults and their families reach their educational, employment, and life goals. Last year, LVCV helped 542 students in core literacy programs in One-to-One Tutoring, Workplace Education, Corrections, GED, Citizenship and Family Literacy. 216 volunteers logged 9,542 hours of tutoring in 2013.

In 2014, LVCV was awarded an Eau Claire Community Foundation Grant for Top Tutor Training, which provides workshops and additional training opportunities for Literacy Volunteer tutors and staff. The grant helped finance a 2-day Learning to Achieve training workshop in November 2014. Learning to Achieve is based on the most recent Learning Disabilities (LD) research, and it helps tutors identify tools and techniques that effectively serve adults with LD. This training also addresses core concepts like self-advocacy and self-determination. In addition, the grant will support a series of four half-day Student Achievement in Reading (STAR) trainings in February 2015. STAR is a comprehensive toolkit and training package built upon evidence-based reading instructional strategies. STAR helps adult educators improve reading outcomes among intermediatelevel (4-8th grade) learners. STAR features assessments on each component of reading and provides explicit instruction that maximizes learners’ active engagement. It is estimated that there are nearly 20,000 adults in our community living with low literacy, so many more tutors are needed. One of the goals of LVCV is to focus on recruitment and retention of volunteers.

Earn While You Learn APPLE Pregnancy Center

“APPLE” stands for Aiding Problem Pregnancies with Love and Encouragement. Founded by Melinda Gardner in 1981, APPLE exists to help women and couples facing crisis pregnancies. Its goal is to be a support system to restore, equip, and empower women and men to make life-affirming choices.

These young women and men whom APPLE serves don’t just require financial help; they need the tools and the support system to break out of destructive cycles. At APPLE, young parents can find material, educational, and mentor support to help them make lifeaffirming choices for themselves and their children.

Along with free services such as pregnancy tests, educational classes, and community referrals, APPLE offers an “Earn While You Learn” program. In this program, a client meets with a volunteer counselor for an hour-long session to go through curriculum covering topics such as healthy pregnancy, parenting skills, budgeting and finances, and more. After each session, the client receives “APPLE Bucks,” which may be redeemed for items like diapers, formula, baby clothes, baby furniture, and other child care necessities. All items are donated or provided by grant money, such as the grant provided by the Eau Claire Community Foundation. It’s not just the material aid that APPLE’s clients find valuable, but also the education. One client, who had a very difficult childhood, thanked a staff member and said that she didn’t think she would have been a very good mother if it weren’t for APPLE’s program.

Women’s Giving Circle The Women’s Giving Circle, a Fund of the Eau Claire Community Foundation, was created by a diverse and generous group of Eau Claire area women engaged in an exciting venture of strategic philanthropy. It leverages the resources of individuals for greater impact by pooling members’ dollars and using the money to award grants to local nonprofit organizations that support women and children. Since its inception in 2006, the Women’s Giving Circle has awarded more than $121,000 in grants.

2014 Women’s Giving Circle Grant Spotlight Trinity Lutheran Church

Boots for Special Souls - $4,000 Boots for Special Souls is an expansion of an existing program, Soles for Special Souls, run by Trinity Lutheran Church’s food pantry. In 2014, it provided 199 disadvantaged children with vouchers for winter boots. Trinity then paid the purchase price, less a generous discount provided by Kmart. According to Pastor Jim Page, “The parents receiving boot vouchers showed sincere gratitude. Heartfelt ‘thank you’ expressions were abundant, and happy tears were not uncommon. The children were especially happy to hear that they could pick out any pair of boots they wanted.” Thanks to the hard work of Trinity Lutheran Church’s volunteers, the generosity of Kmart’s discounts, and the support from Women’s Giving Circle grant dollars, many children in Eau Claire were a little warmer in 2014.

Women’s Giving Circle Grants Approved for the 2015 Cycle Eau Claire Area Hmong Mutual Assistance Association Viv Ncaus Sewing Circle (Hmong Women Support Group): $2,000 The Viv Ncaus Sewing Circle is for Hmong women who are survivors of domestic abuse. Members work on a fabric art project while discussing the women’s life experiences. In the process, they give and receive emotional and practical support as they preserve Hmong culture by creating traditional clothing and crafts.

Flying Eagles Ski Jump Club Fly With the Eagles: $5,000 Fly With the Eagles helps combat youth obesity by encouraging children to participate in the Flying Eagles Ski Jump Club regardless of their ability or financial need. It provides educational presentations and scholarships that enable children from low-income families to participate in this healthy, collaborative athletic experience.

Eau Claire City-County Health Department’s Safe Sleep Task Force Safe Sleep Program: $5,000 The Safe Sleep Task Force provides a tool-kit that offers a consistent, accurate message about the importance of safe sleep for infants. It also provides 50 families in need with a free Pack N Play and sleep sack.

Friends of the L.E. Phillips Memorial Public Library Books for Babies: $5,000 Books for Babies is a literacy program to acquaint parents of newborns with the important role that books play in the development of children. While still in the hospital, parents receive a kit that presents information about the importance of reading to babies as well as resources to help them do so.

Eau Claire YMCA Healthy Eating and Physical Activity Standards for Child Development Center: $4,000 The YMCA is adopting a set of Healthy Eating and Physical Activity standards for its Child Development Center. These standards improve children’s health by encouraging healthy eating and exercise as well as by improving the nutritional value of the CDC’s meals and snacks.

Girl Scouts of the Northwestern Great Lakes STEM for Girls: $5,000 STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) for Girls provides an ongoing program for the girls in Eau Claire County. It introduces them to a variety of STEM careers through engaging activities, and it encourages them to pursue STEM academically and as a career.

Children’s Legacy Luncheon The Children’s Legacy Luncheon is an annual event which honors individuals who have made a positive and long-lasting contribution to the lives of children in the Chippewa Valley through innovative work, leadership, or philanthropy. These honorees are people who exemplify selfless service for local children and families; in recognition of their contributions, they receive the “Outstanding Achievement Award” at the Children’s Legacy Luncheon. The 2014 honorees were Colleen Bates, Chris Hambuch-Boyle, Vicki Hoehn, Christopher Stratton, and Lisa Walter. The honorees are invited to recommend a $500 grant from the Eau Claire Community Foundation to a non-profit of their choice. In 2014, the recommended grantees were Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northwest Wisconsin, Eau Claire Robotics, the Eau Claire School District’s Early Learning Program, the 4H After School Program and Friends of the Fair, and Special Olympics Wisconsin Region 3.

The Children’s Legacy Fund offers an opportunity for donors to make profound and lasting contributions to the health and welfare of children. The Luncheon also raises money for the Children’s Legacy Endowment Fund at the Eau Claire Community Foundation. The fund supports programs that serve children. The 2014 grant recipients from the Endowment Fund were the Eau Claire Regional Arts Center for its Summer ARTmobile program and the Chippewa Valley Youth Symphony for its concert to honor area veterans. A Supporting Organization

Eau Claire Public Schools Foundation Dear Friends of Education , We are proud to be a supporting organization of the Eau Claire Community Foundation with a dedicated focus on securing support for our great public educational system. As an independent non-profit, dedicated to promoting learning opportunities for students in the Eau Claire Public Schools, our mission is threefold: foster a supportive relationship with the school district, its alumni, and the community; secure private funds to provide value-added learning opportunities; and award grants for innovative value-added projects, programs, and greatest needs. Thanks to the generous support of individuals, businesses, the High School Booster Clubs, and other friends of education, ECPSF funds (including the District Wide Greatest Needs Fund for Today, District Wide Endowed Fund for the Future, family endowed funds and pass through funds) received over $244,000 in gifts this calendar year. Grants of over $91,000 supported a broad range of valueadded Eau Claire School District projects, programs and greatest needs, from supplies and materials for homeless students to field trips, special school projects, and postsecondary scholarships for deserving students in a variety of areas. Several new endowed funds were established this year to honor and remember loved ones, and two schools (McKinley Charter School and DeLong Middle School) set up the first fully endowed school funds. Alumni from the classes of 1958, 1959, and 1964 celebrated their reunions with gifts to support a range of projects. Pass through funds supported NHS/MHS Senior All Night Parties, music education, and the NHS Dugouts. Thank you to all who made these great things possible.

Endowed Funds for the Future

The Funds For Today are used to meet current needs of students. Gifts to these fund can be directed by the donor to individual schools or programs. Gifts not directed by the donor will be pooled and used to address the Eau Claire School District’s greatest needs.

The Endowed Funds for the Future safeguard the principal of all the funds into perpetuity, while the earnings from the funds are available on an annual basis to support school programs and special projects as well as to assist students.

Musical Experience for Students with Adaptive Needs Grant Linda Johnson, the Adaptive Music teacher for North, Memorial, and Delong Middle School, submitted a grant proposal to the Eau Claire Public Schools Foundation this fall. Her goal was to acquire enough Tabano Drums for her students at all three schools. She also requested funds for transportation to take her students ‘on tour’ this spring. Thanks to her successful grant request, her Special Angels Group will be able to present a concert at DeLong Middle School.

McKinley Charter School Grant In 2014, a student attended CVTC while enrolled at the McKinley Charter School through a $1,000 Bridge to College grant from ECPSF. The grant supported books and tuition for this student to attend the CVTC’s CNA Program as she finished her senior year of high school. The McKinley Charter School Board of Directors established the Success Fund to ensure that promising McKinley students might receive grant scholarships that promote postsecondary success. Their hope is that the endowed fund will attract donations from others who wish to support at-risk students in reaching their academic goals. The grant money will enhance students’ educational futures by allowing them to enroll in post-secondary coursework or participate in additional courses and training while still in high school.

North High School Dugout Project Thanks to gifts and in-kind donations, the North High School Baseball and Softball programs have dugouts to shelter them from heat, rain, and sun in their home fields during practice and games. Eau Claire Community Foundation Honorariums and Memorials

Honorariums and Memorials are gifts from donors for special purposes. Memorial gifts honor the memory of a friend or loved one who has passed away. An Honorarium is a gift from a donor to recognize an event, a special living person, or a significant occasion. Donors of Memorials or Honorariums can designate their gift to a specific Fund held at the Eau Claire Community Foundation, or the gift can be placed in the Community

Fund, an unrestricted fund that is used for granting for the greatest needs of the community. Gifts can also be designated for our operations to help forward our mission.
