A MESSAGE FROM KARL MURCH,
Chair of the Board of Trustees
2020 slowed the world down in a lot of ways, but the pandemic couldn’t stop ECCF from breaking records in 2021. Our total assets have reached over $37 million, and so far this year we’ve received ¬$2.7 million in donations. So far in 2021, 14 new individual and family Funds have been opened. These Funds collectively received over $900,000 in assets and have brought ECCF’s active fund count to 267. Our momentum in granting hasn’t stopped either. In addition to more than $178,000 awarded during this year’s Community Grant Cycle, giving from other fund types has allowed ECCF to grant more than $1 million to tax-exempt organizations this year alone. These numbers bring ECCF’s total grant distribution since inception to over $18 million. We’re excited about these accomplishments, but we’re even more excited about two new initiatives in honor of our upcoming 25th anniversary: First, our new online Grant Catalog will support local nonprofits with a new way to receive public donations as well as to become eligible for bonus grants. The second is the Legacy Society Initiative, which sets the goal of recruiting 25 new Legacy Society members over the coming year. You can become a member by providing for ECCF in your will or estate plan. Your Legacy will ensure the future, but your charitable impact can begin today! (Read on for more information about these two new initiatives.) None of this would be possible without the dedication and expertise of our Board of Trustees. It is my pleasure to welcome three new Board members: Dr. Jason Beckermann, Cody Filipczak, and Dr. Julia Kyle. I look forward to working with them as they bring their talents and insight to the table. I would also like to extend a sincere thank you to outgoing trustees Dr. Phil Happe, R. Tom Toy, and Laura Talley, Past Chair. It has truly been a pleasure to see the passion that these three have brought in their service to our community. It has been an honor and a privilege to serve as Board Chair of ECCF for the past two years. As my term ends, I would like to thank you all for your continued support. With gratitude,

Create Culture The COVID-19 pandemic left countless people struggling to make ends meet. Generous donors rose to the challenge, and hundreds of thousands of dollars in grants helped ensure that nobody in our community would go without food, shelter, medical care, and other basic needs in 2020. But this overwhelming donor support for urgent physical needs left many arts organizations and museums struggling in the pandemic’s wake. That’s why our first online Grant Catalog will support the visual and performing arts, literature, and museums. Please join us in supporting the Create Culture nonprofits that do so much to enhance Eau Claire’s quality of life!
DID YOU KNOW?
The Society of Founders Fund was funded by 64 generous donors to allow ECCF to focus on its mission – Over $1 million was given! Because of these generous gifts: • Before 2017, this Fund provided operational dollars but now ECCF is self-sufficient. • Now, this Fund is used for special projects and will grant an additional $100,000 during the 25th Anniversary year-long celebration. • This Fund is an excellent example of the importance of an Endowment! In 2020, ECCF’s operations were under 1% of total assets!
