Featured Fund For more than 16 years, Longfellow Elementary School’s after-school program has been providing academic support and enrichment for students. But when the federal grant that funded the program was abruptly cut in 2018, the community came together. An anonymous ECASD retiree made a high-impact gift to establish Longfellow’s JRLC Fund, a quasi-endowed fund to support the program’s needs. The retired teacher is proud to support Longfellow. “Having seen the program in person, I know how much it helps the kids,” she shared. “The volunteers who give their time and energy cannot be thanked enough, but the practical side costs money. I’m happy and proud to contribute to that.” Her incredible generosity inspired an outpouring of community support, including additional major gifts, allowing the JRLC after-school program to remain open!

Featured Grant Each year, ECPSF awards grants to schools to provide students with value-added learning opportunities. One 2018 grant supported an impactful field trip for Mr. Phelps’s Memorial High School biotechnology students to visit UW–River Falls to learn more about the university’s biology and engineering programs. The Old Abes valued working directly with UWRF students in the lab. “It was super cool to see what they were working on in real time,” one of Mr. Phelps’s students shared. “And so great to hear from university students; they provide a relatable perspective for us!” Mr. Phelps appreciated being able to offer his students a new look at possibilities beyond graduation. “It was wonderful to expose my students to post-secondary science, especially the role that research plays in the next step of their academic growth,” Mr. Phelps shared. “Thank you to ECPSF for inspiring my students to become the next generation of innovators and leaders in this dynamic field!”

Leave a Legacy for Learning Does your commitment to education in Eau Claire extend beyond your ability to make a current cash gift? If so, please consider remembering ECPSF in your estate plan. Planned gifts come in many shapes and sizes, and can benefit our schools in any way that you wish to leave your legacy. Your gift can support our mission, can further an existing fund, or can establish a new fund to support your specific area of educational interest. All who establish a planned gift to benefit ECPSF become members of the Legacy Society.

Types of planned gifts: “The Eau Claire Public Schools Foundation was created because there was a need created by the lack of funding for basic educational programs and supporting materials for our youth. Our dedicated teachers and staff were spending their personal savings to purchase needed supplies for their classroom.”

-Charlie Grossklaus

“It’s important to support our students and teachers for needs that our budget can not meet. We take pride in the quality of public education in Eau Claire and want to continue to help maintain it.”
