MESSAGE FROM LAURA TALLEY, Chair of the Board of Trustees In 2017, the Eau Claire Community Foundation celebrated 20 years of supporting nonprofits in the greater Eau Claire area. Thanks to your generosity, ECCF has been funding programs and assets for local nonprofits since 1997. We see firsthand the far-reaching and transformative impact of grants as they make a difference in area communities. And what a difference it’s been! Between January 1 and November 15, 2017, ECCF has disbursed over $4.1 million in grants to more than 200 nonprofit organizations. The Foundation’s assets have grown to over $22,000,000! Thanks to donors like you … • The Chippewa Valley Museum can educate visitors with a new projector system and exhibits that accommodate accessibility needs. • Fierce Freedom can continue its fight against human trafficking. • The Eau Claire Skateboarders Association can build a new skate park. • The Chippewa Valley Free Clinic can offer mental health services. These are just a few of the grants awarded in ECCF’s 2017 grant cycle; the combined impact of all 51 grants has been even more phenomenal! We also continue to collaborate with our peers by supporting community projects with donations that flow through ECCF. For example, the Carson Park Baseball Stadium Renovation Fund supports the future renovation of the stadium, and the Phoenix Park Bridge Lighting Project Fund enhances our downtown. The bridge is a spectacular sight when you visit Phoenix Park during the evening hours! As 2017 moves towards a close and you consider your year-end tax alternatives, please consider a gift to ECCF of appreciated securities or other property. If you are 70 ½ years or older and have not used your IRA disbursement, this is a great time to consider using your IRA to make a charitable gift for a tax saving opportunity. We can assist you and your financial and tax advisors with the process. To ensure a seamless transfer of your gift, please call us with your gifting instructions by December 15, 2017, to guarantee timely processing and ensure that the funds will be properly transferred for IRS purposes. Our focus and energies are committed to the future and what we can accomplish together as a community of givers. Thank you all for your continued generous support of ECCF throughout our 20 years! I wish you a warm, happy, and joyous holiday season. With gratitude,

WALDEMAR AGER ASSOCIATION

WISCONSIN PUBLIC TELEVISION

The Waldemar Ager Association celebrates the life and legacy of Waldemar Ager—immigrant, journalist, author, and Eau Claire civic leader in the early 1900’s. Ager was the publisher of the Reform, a Norwegian language newspaper, and author of seven novels, several collections of stories, and numerous articles about literature and immigrant culture.

Wisconsin Public Television (WPT) enriches people’s lives through inventive local television production; community engagement activities throughout the state; and the use of communication technologies that educate, inspire, and entertain.

The Association runs the Ager Museum, which is open three times a month for tours and research in its fully catalogued library. It also offers numerous public programs and educational opportunities. Each year, the Association joins Norden Folk and Sons of Norway on May 17 to commemorate Syttende Mai with a banquet and program. In 2017, the Association was pleased to receive an ECCF grant supporting the costs of this program. The Waldemar Ager Association welcomes new members and citizen support for its programs and activities. To learn more, visit www.agerhouse.org.

Give Green

Wisconsin Hometown Stories: Eau Claire is an innovative multimedia project that documents the region’s history. It includes a one-hour television broadcast, online components, and K-12 history curriculum. WPT staff were in Eau Claire September 12-14, 2017, talking with community members, educators and historians about the documentary’s content as well as gathering footage. Funding from ECCF will support the creation of cost-free, K-12 classroom resources that enhance students’ exploration and understanding of Eau Claire’s history. Thanks to this collaboration, students will have a new appreciation of the city they call home. To learn more, visit www.wpt.org.

BEAVER CREEK

CHIPPEWA VALLEY HABITAT FOR HUMANITY

Beaver Creek Reserve (BCR) is an environmental center that seeks to connect people to the mysteries and miracles of the natural world; it has been fulfilling this mission for 70 years.

Chippewa Valley Habitat for Humanity (CVH4H) is a nonprofit housing organization that envisions a world where everyone has a decent place to live. To fulfill this mission, it builds and improves homes in partnership with people in need of affordable housing.

Over 40,000 visitors a year enjoy events and experiences at the Eau Claire County Youth Camp, the Wise Nature Center, the Citizen Science Center, the Hobbs Observatory, and the nine miles of beautiful trails. In 2017, BCR received an ECCF grant for three new water bottle filling drinking fountains. These fountains allow visitors to conveniently find clean filtered water and refill their water bottles, creating a more positive visitor experience and reducing waste from disposable water bottles. To learn more, visit www.beavercreekreserve.org.

CVH4H recently opened its first ReStore in Eau Claire. It sells donated furniture, appliances, and construction items at discounted prices. All proceeds go directly back into local home building and repair programs. An ECCF grant helped CVH4H open the ReStore. Its proceeds have supported an exterior home repair program and helped CVH4H complete a project for a Chippewa Valley family. The ReStore is always looking for new donations, shoppers, and volunteers. To learn more, visit www.cvh4h.org.
