Houston Bayou Homeless Shelter Houston has an abundant homeless community that has found shelter under the highways that run in and out of the city and the green areas located in the heart of Downtown. This project focuses on creating a Homeless Shelter that incorporates both the industrialized vernacular found through the buildings and highway systems, and also the natural vegetation existing along the Houston Bayou which runs through the entirety of the Downtown area. The merging of these two componets creates a space that mimmicks the highway structure system and also provides green spaces that allow and promote an interaction with nature as well as recreational use. Saint Arnold’s Brewing Company The main obejctive of this project was to redesign the existing Saint Arnold’s Brewing Company. The structure consits of moment frames spanning horizontally on the site giving the building a rectilinear form. A building envelope wraps around the structure to separate the pubilc area from the production area. The envelope is made up of a variety of screens that create dialogue addressing the activities happening on the inside to the public on the exterior. Each screen has different densities controling the amount of light, views, and separating each space by function. The use of concrete, metal, glass, and wood give the building both an aesthetic appeal and help the user identify each component of the design.

Prairie View Farmer’s Market Prairie View is home of the PVAMU Campus which houses thousands of students. This Farmers Market will serve as a nature basket in which farmers can sell their fresh crops to students as well as other residents. The concept was to find a way to integrate nature into the open air structure to give the user an experience where they can interact with the exterior elements. The sloped roofs drain rain water to the north and south sides of the building. On the north end a water fountain collects the rain water which can be used for irrigation. On the south side, jazmin vines intertwine with the screen system which is used to provide shade as the southern winds carry the scent of the jazmin vine throughout.
