After pixelising Los Angeles, Rio de Janeiro, New York, Venice, Berlin, Paris, London, Tokyo and Marseilles for the European Capital Culture Year, marsdesign is proud to launch two new Pixel Art projects for Miami :

eBoyMIA & eBoyMIAMI These innovating projects will gather key sites, key images and important parts and people of Miami, using high graphic qualities. These two new Pixoramas aim to become the official posters of Magic City and the Miami International Airport. If you wish to participate, be pixelised and represented in these Art Posters and become famous in Miami, Florida and around the world, you can become an Pixel Partner of the eBoyMIA and the eBoyMiami Pixoramas.

Pixel Art is landing and launching in Miami marsdesign, the eBoy Collective, the Miami International Airport and the InterContinental Hotel of Miami are proud to present a new and major Art project for Miami that will take Magic City and the MIA one step further into the artistic future. After pixelising many major cities as Los Angeles, New York, Rio de Janeiro, Venice, Berlin, Paris, London, Tokyo and Marseilles for the European Culture Year… marsdesign and the eBoy Collective, known as the Pixel Art Godfathers, will collaborate once again to create two exclusive Pixoramas eBoyMIA and eBoyMiami :

For the first time , the eBoy Collective will bring their talent to a very specific project : Miami International Airport as a «city» itself. The eBoyMIA Pixorama will gather key places, key images and important parts and people of the MIA in order to capture the specific life of the MIA This new Pixorama will be the first representation of an International Airport where Art is already omnipresent

Once again, the eBoy Collective will bring their talent to the project, using pixels & high graphic qualities to create a bright and fresh artistic pixel view of the city and it’s suroundings. The eBoyMiami Pixorama will gather key sites, key images and important parts and people of Miami as well as the feeling of different places of Miami. This new Pixorama aims to become the « Official Poster of Miami ».


Artistic Presentation What is pixel Art ? Pixel Art probably comes from an ancient Art : Mosaic Mosaic is the art of creating paterns, pictures and representations assembling pièces of uniform colors. The vision differs depending on the size of the mosaic and the distance to the eye. Pixel Art uses « Pixels » a a basic form to create pictures, Pixel by Pixel. A pixel is also a basic unit used to define a screen resolution in the computer world. Pixel art is intimately related to the computer world with it’s increasing power that allow to create a more complex Digital Artwork with high graphic qualities and an artistic vison. Video games like « Pong », « Pacman », « Space Invaders » were the initiators of a graphic revolution that inspired a whole generation.

A new form of artistic expression growing fast


The artists : eBoy eBoy™ : The eBoy Collective eBoy™, the God Father of Pixel Art, is an art group founded in Berlin, in 1997, by Kai Vermehr, Steffen Sauerteig and Svend Smital. «We started working with pixels because we loved the idea of making pictures only for the screen. It’s the best way to get really sharp and clean looking results. Also, handling pixels is fun and you are forced to simplify and abstract things, which is a big advantage of this technique.» Their influences come from : «Pop culture, shopping, supermarkets, TV, toy commercials, LEGO, computer games, the news, magazines...» Kai grew up with video games while Steffen and Svend lived in East Germany where these games did not exist. Their work makes intense use of popular culture and commercial icons, and their style is presented in three-dimensional isometric illustrations filled with robots, cars, people and key images. Now, most of their designs are printed and not used only for computer screens, allowing images to get more complex with details. «If we don’t work on other projects at the same time, it takes about 3 months to finish a very detailed cityscape, three eBoy’s working on it, nearly full time « Their style has gained them a cult following among graphic designers worldwide, as well as a long list of commercial clients. Their latest projects are plastic Peecol toys with Kidrobot, a line of wooden toys produced under their own label and the new BazQux poster that has just been produced.

What is a Pixorama ? A Pixorama is an Art Work that is created pixel by pixel on a computer It is a new technique of Art creation and its It allows great creativity. The Pixorama also brings a feeling of the places that are pixelised. Each Pixorama aims to bring to each city and now an Airport, a bright and fresh artistic pixel view of their life and surroundings. Pixoramas, a mix between pixel and panorama, are displayed in gallery exhibitions and printed into Posters and used for derivatives products sold worldwide. The Pixoramas are printed in two size Posters : A0 : 47’’ x 33’’ - A2 : 23’’ x 16’’, and are used to create derivative products like skins for computers and cases for smartphones, cards, stickers, cushions, puzzle, shirts, souvenirs... and also used for big prints.

These Pixoramas are an opportunity to bring your own identity into this collaborative project.

Production and artistic direction by marsdesignTM marsdesign is a French design agency, owned and managed by Nicolas Mannoni, designer. marsdesign will be producing the eBoy Collective for the eBoyMIA and eBoyMiami Pixoramas and is in charge of the artistic direction of the project. marsdesign as the producer is financing the development of the two Pixoramas and owns the Trademarks eBoyMIATM and eBoyMiamiTM as well as the future Copyrights of the Art Works. marsdesign is responsible of the development of Sponsoring and Partnerships, the Promotion and the Distribution of the Art work and derivative products.

Nicolas Mannoni, designer, is born in Paris in 1973. A mother that owned a modern Art Gallery and a scientific researcher father awoke him to an artistic and scientific world. The full renovation of his home and repeated requests from his circle pushed him to put his experience and passion for design in the service of others. In 2008, he created his own design agency: marsdesign. He is now a product and interior space designer, seeking to convey his creatives emotions and sensations to the public. He likes to surprise by using futuristic innovative materials and plays mainly on the simplicity and purity of his creations. The first collaboration with eBoy was for eBoyMarseille in 2009 followed by a new eBoyMarseille Pixorama in 2013 for the European Culture Year. This second poster became the Official Poster of Marseille and the best sold Marseillan product in 2013 !

The Project

eBoyMIA Pixorama The Miami International Airport is the first encounter when flying to Miami. The MIA first decided to take part of the eBoyMiami Pixorama as an official Pixel Sponsor in order to participate in this great artistic project. Then, after discovering the full work of the eBoys, the MIA challenged our team to create a full new project : eBoyMIA Pixorama : the first Pixorama of an Airport. With 40 millions passengers, 1 000 flights a day and the World Soccer Cup in Brazil starting in June 2014, the MIA is a major Airport and also an important part of Miami for visitors, tourist and locals. The MIA is knowen for it’s implication in Art and has it’s own Art galleries.

eBoyMIA Pixorama - Landing – June 5th 2014 – Miami International Airport The Pixorama will be presented to the Partners and the Press during an official reception at the Miami International Airport. At the same time, the Pixorama will be presented to the public on the official eBoyMIA websites. The three artists from the eBoy Collective will attend the reception to present the Art Work for the MIA, to meet the Partners and to dedicate Posters. There will be a « Vernissage » of a big print of the Art Work and of the Laminated Posters that will become part of the MIA Gallerie’s permanent exhibition.

As a global partner, the InterContinental Hotel will announce the eBoyMIA landing on it’s digital wall the 5th of June. There will be Local, National and International Press coverage of the reception and presentation of the Pixorama.

The eBoyMiami Pixorama will gather key sites, key images and important parts and people of Miami as well as the feeling of different places of Miami. eBoy Miami will become the third american Pixorama after Los Angeles and New York. This new Pixorama aims to become the « Official Poster of Miami »

eBoyMiami - Launching – December 3rd 2014 – InterContinental Hotel Miami The eBoyMiami Pixorama will be presented to the Partners and the Press during an official reception at the InterContinental Hotel for the opening of Art Basel Miami 2014. At the same time, the Pixorama will be presented to the public on the official eBoyMiami website. The three artists from the eBoy Collective will attend the reception to present the Art Work for Miami, to meet the Partners and to dedicate Posters. At the same time, marsdesign and the eBoy Collective will transform the InterContinental Hotel into a giant Artwork, using the digital walls and other digital facilities of the Hotel from the opening of Art Basel until the end of the year. It will be the first time that the building becomes a global Artwork. There will be Local, National and International Press coverage of the event while the building lights up on December 3rd 2014.
