Press Release The US Elections Seen From Europe Ebuzzing releases infographic analysing Barack Obama’s historic win as seen by European social media London, November 12th 2012: Ebuzzing, the leading global platform for social video advertising, have produced an infographic which explains the European social media response to the US elections. Using their social monitoring tool, Ebuzzing Labs, to analyse over 150,000 UK publications Ebuzzing calculates the media value of UK activity to total over £4.5 million. Over all social platforms, Barack Obama lead the buzz race with a 58% share of voice over his rival, Mitt Romney. This was partly due to the Democrat’s aggressive use of social media; by the 6th November Obama acquired 31 million Facebook likes and over 900,000 shares. Mitt Romney trailed behind with only 12 million Facebook likes and 300,000 shares. Although Romney had fewer ‘likes’ he claimed the higher engagement rate at 49% over Obama’s 23%, suggesting Republican supporters were the more engaged. Across UK Blogs, Forums and Media Articles the number of publications rose dramatically in line with the three presidential debates on the 3rd, 16th and 22nd of October, peaking on Election Day when over 16,000 blog posts and media articles were published. Obama featured in 74% of total publications while Romney was only mentioned in 54%. UK Blogs from a wide range of categories, from lifestyle and culture, to law, economy and technology, talked about the US elections. 150 blogs ranking in Ebuzzing’s ‘most influential’ category posted about the elections. The blog categories which posted the most often were politics, culture and technology. Barack Obama won the battle on social media and clinched a second term in the Whitehouse. Ebuzzing looks forward to seeing whether future candidates will capitalise on social media and if election results continue to be mirrored online.
