In recent years, fresh water shortage has become an increasing threat in the western world. In 2004, Singapore started a new initiative called NEWater, which transforms sewage water into perfectly clean drinkable water. Similar efforts are also in progress in the US, but have faced problems gaining acceptance by the general public. With Re:form, I wanted to envision how effluent drinking water can be packaged in a more interesting, practical and sustainable way. One of the main challenges was to find a visual language that by the use of color and material feels both technical and sterile while also honest and natural.

The structure is made of 100% recyclable gray board and the shape of the container is a half octagon, which has several advantages compared to regular round containers. Firstly, the shape is 60 percent more space efficient when stacked in shelves or for transportation, and secondly it gives full control over how the bottle is carried for stronger brand impact. The word mark was drawn with the goal of being distinct and recognizable from a distance with every letter flowing into the next. The stark and saturated blue color of all the type and information was chosen for the same reason, in order to really pop and contrast the natural gray board.

A promotional fanzine for the Tenderloin Museum, a non-profit museum celebrating the unique history of the Tenderloin area. Unlike some other large cities like New York who have cleaned themselves up, SF can, as maybe the only city in the U.S. still claim that true city vibe as the neighborhood makes up for what it’s missing in polish with grit and soul. Using a visually honest and straight to the point approach that highlights the mash up of high and low culture, graffiti, historic landmarks and progressiveness, the zine gives an unfiltered view of the neighborhood.

It’s a property game that challenges each player to take on the role of a street food connoisseur and then travel the board to discover the different vendors before buying your favorites. Along the way you will learn about the unique and wonderful meals and fusions featured on the game board, and when you own all the vendors within a cuisine you can advance to building a food restaurant before you as a final step can expand into a restaurant. May the biggest foodie win!

Roast is a combined coffee house and micro roastery, sourcing all their beans from Ethiopia—by many considered the country with the finest coffee beans in the world. Their passion for the whole process of coffee making can be described as tribal, so the identity tries to stay away from the bright, stereotypical color palette commonly associated with eastern parts of Africa. Instead it goes in a more bold and confident direction by using copper, black and white and graphics inspired by old tribal symbols from Ethiopia. After the full identity and all assets were created, everything was gathered in a comprehensive brand book covering everything from the ethos of the company to the brand guidelines.

Using the origin of the beans as a starting gate for the identity, the symbol is inspired by African tribes, and is based on the Adinkra symbol for strength and perseverance. A series of patterns was also developed with the same inspiration. They are based on the Owo Foro Adobe, a symbol in the same family, which in English means to perform the impossible. Copper was chosen as the main material and finish as it is the best material for achieving perfect stability in temperature, making it perfect for both coffee roasting and brewing. It’s also a symbol of luxury, quality and craftsmanship. The rest of the color palette comes from the process of roasting, from the tan color of the unaltered bean, through copper equipment until the perfect warm dark brown bean is ready to be enjoyed.

While at Moving Brands, we designed the holistic concept for Sony's holiday campaign. After exploring different messaging routes, we lead with ‘Unwrap Wonder.’ It had the hallmarks of a traditional holiday message, while capturing Sony’s balance of experimentation and craft. We began experimenting with form, scale, color, material and structure. From metallic foil to silk to mylar, we wanted a material that was light, premium and similar to foil wrapping paper. The ads were shown digitally in Best Buy and on Amazon, and finally the concept came to life in Sony’s flagship store on Madison Avenue as the focal point of their in-store window installation.

The brand was founded in San Francisco by long time friend Martin Evensen out of a passion for functional accessories that do not compromise style. We envision a store experience where people come to find carefully curated product lines that tell their own story of meetings between people, materials and cultures. Our aim is to develop a multidisciplinary store that functions more like an exhibition space rather than your usual retail store. The brand itself is merely an empty vessel in the beginning that over time acquires meaning and context depending on what is on display at the given point in time. People will visit the store for the experience and in the end select the products that function in their own narrative of life, regardless if the purchase is made in-store or later on online. We see a great potential in the American tradition of adopting cultures and combining and transforming them into
new interesting ideas or products. It’s not defined by one single aesthetic or style, but rather by the uniqueness of the products in their own right. We live in a time with great possibilities for diverse exposure due to mobility and the easy access to information through digital matters. These opportunities also creates a demand for a store providing objects out of the ordinary that always are in sync with the current influences. This approach will protect the brand from becoming static and tied to a style, and with that filling a gap in the market where larger players are doing a good job in their own category, but have a hard time expanding without having to create new stand alone sub-brands.

Contour’s home decor line is the heart of the store striving to make good contemporary design available through a selection of functional and timeless products that evoke affection. An integral part in the development of the visual system was to create a strong and flexible packaging system that never would over-power the product or the designer. The solution was to strip the package down to its bare essentials, the product itself, its story, and the designer. This enabled us to bring the components together into one cohesive system of product photography, a pared down color-coding, and concise typography. The result is a package design honoring the product while telling its story with clarity and honesty.

Contour Essentials ties the store together into one cohesive experience by providing basic products of high quality that function as a compliment to the other brands. In addition to being an extension of other product lines, the objects themselves are to be considered stand-alone pieces of design striving to make every day life a bit better through form and function. The visual system consists of a line art graphic that illustrates the product and its use in a naively straightforward manner. The line, or contour if you will, has an opening meaning, but for us it’s representative of the narrative of each product that together form the story of Contour.

While all Contour products are made to last, the purpose of the interior care line is to ensure the longevity of functionality and finish. The product line offers a wide range of liquids, soaps and waxes taking care of natural materials such as wood, stone and leather. The packaging uses a system of distinct typography, imagery, and iconography of the material intended to be treated, creating a simple and intuitive experience for the consumer. The aluminum structures communicate the contrast between natural and man-made. In addition, they provides the packaging with a sense of trust and cleanliness.

Contour’s private label restaurant and grocery market Foil aim to provide consumers with a personal, transparent and local food experience. With a curated selection of local produce and freshly prepared food from the restaurant, Foil offers a refined alternative to conventional grocery stores. The importance of the produce origin is signified by abstract graphics inspired by the natural surrounding of each product. In contrast with the raw nature and to emphasize the quality of the products, each package is adorned with the calligraphic word mark and a delicate typographic system.

Still creates skincare formulas based solely on natural ingredients free from artificial additives enabling a product that’s kind to both skin and environment. The wide range of plant derived cleansers, toners and serums are crafted and filtered by hand before finally being bottled. Once filled, the translucent bottles become the quality assurance for the consumer displaying the purity of the inside. The sense of honesty and integrity is carried on throughout the identity by the use of a simple yet concise typographic system. To evoke the intimacy of the product the white structures are matched with pastel watercolors and floral illustrations.
