The European Single Market is 20 Years Old! What is Single Market Week? To celebrate 20 Years of the Single Market, Single Market Week is taking place from 15 to 20 October 2012 with events occurring in cities across the 27 Member States of the European Union. These events will bring together citizens and businesses with members of the European Parliament, the European Commission, the European Council and Member States to celebrate and reflect on the past, present and future of the Single Market.
What is the Single Market Week Launch Event? This is a special event to launch Single Market Week and mark 20 Years of the Single Market. The launch event will take place on 15 October 2012 in the Hemicycle of the European Parliament. This event will involve interactive dialogue and debate between participants on all aspects of the European Single Market and will be focused on real stories and experiences. It will bring together 800 citizens from across the 27 Member States of the EU and give participants the opportunity to learn more about Single Market and how they can benefit from it. The programme will focus on: • Achievements of the Single Market • Challenges ahead for the Single Market • Views and expectations of 20 year-olds from across Europe - our so-called “Generation 1992”
How do I register? To register to attend this special event, visit our website at www.singlemarket20.eu. We welcome online registration from across the 27 Member States of the European Union. Please note that lunch and refreshments will be provided to all participants. However, travel and other associated costs with attending the event will not be reimbursed.
What other events are happening for Single Market Week? As well as a prestigious event in Brussels to launch Single Market Week, a number of exciting and interesting events are taking place in cities across the European Union to mark 20 Years of the Single Market.
The launch event will consist of two “talk show” style sessions with a mix of inspiring views, video presentations, debates, quizzes and online interactivity. It promises to be an event not to be missed!
These events will be organised by the 27 Member States of the EU, in collaboration with the EU Representative Offices in their countries, and will include forums, fairs, conferences, exhibitions, radio and TV programmes, quizzes etc.
