YOUR SUPPORT AT WORK FROM THE WORDS OF OUR INTERN Adam shares about her experience so far this fall BY ADAM KAGANAK
T
This Year I applied and was invited to do a year-long internship with Covenant Youth of Alaska. I am excited about learning and growing this year with CYAK mentors and experiences. The first assignment I was given was to develop a daily routine of devotions. I will be reading through the New Testament this semester. This has become a part of my day that I look forward to, if I don’t do it in the morning it is definitely something that I will get done later that day. I also have a couple of mentor meetings each week and those meetings give me an opportunity to ask questions about what I am reading in the Bible as well as other life direction questions. I am so grateful for this opportunity to grow in my relationship with God. One thing that I am hoping to get out this year is being disciplined in reading God’s word and staying disciplined with my daily devotions. This fall, I participated in a number of spiritual retreats, such as the CYAK young adult retreat, the Pastors/Leader retreat, and serving at a Jr. High School retreat. At each retreat, I heard speakers and connected with other leaders
and mentors. One thing that I learned was that there are a lot of people who have been followers of Jesus for a long time, and they still learn something new from the Bible every day. Another thing I was reminded of at the Jr. High Retreat was that God was the one who molded us, and he knows exactly who we are, even when we don’t. I am learning and growing through each of these experiences. So far, I’ve seen growth in my relationship with Christ and growth in talking to the Lord when I don’t know what to do. I also see growth in being more aware of how I present myself to others, especially the youth. A recent trip that I went on was with Byron and Jaime to Michigan and Kansas City, two cities that I hadn’t been to before. Because of this internship, I was able to go to those two places all the way from beautiful Alaska to tell my story and what it’s like to grow up in a rural village. It was my first time talking in front of many people. I was very nervous, but it was so nice to see how many people were interested in hearing what we were talking about and what our organization does. The CYAK mission is to share the love and hope of Christ with Alaska’s youth and young adults! This is a great mission to be involved in, especially through prayer and financial support, so more of these types of spiritual formation internships can happen. Quyana for your support!
