The Golden Lions softball team has made the ECC Tournament every year of Head Coach, Deb DeJong’s tenure. Dowling’s women’s basketball team advanced to the NCAA Division II National Championship Game before falling to Ashland. The Dowling women’s soccer and women’s basketball teams won their respective ECC Tournaments in 2012-13.

About Dowling

Founded in 1955 as part of Adelphi University’s Suffolk Campus, the college purchased the former W.K. Vanderbilt estate in Oakdale in 1962. In 1968 the college was renamed after its chief benefactor, Robert Dowling, a noted city planner and aviator. Situated on the banks of the Connetquot River on a former Vanderbilt estate, Dowling’s Rudolph Campus in Oakdale is among the nation’s most beautiful. The 105-acre Brookhaven Center is located on William Floyd Parkway in Shirley and features high-tech learning facilities for a broad range of undergraduate and graduate courses. Mercy College accomplished alumni include: Walter Anderson (Parade Magazine), Brian Sweeney (former Major League pitcher) , Carolyn Kepcher (formerly of The Apprentice) and Mookie Wilson (New York Mets and Toronto Blue Jays). This marks the second time in three seasons the softball team has made the ECC Championship. Mercy Athletics opened their renovated athletic fields in the fall of 2012.

The Molloy College men’s indoor track and field team won the first-ever East Coast Conference Indoor Track and Field Championship. The Lions accumulated a total of 163 points at the meet. The Molloy College men’s basketball team shattered a pair of school records in 2012-13. The Lions bested the all-time marks for consecutive victories, and most wins, in a single season. Freshman Conor Gallagher of the Molloy College men’s cross country team was tabbed as the East Coast Conference Rookie of the Year. He aided the Lions to a second-place showing at the ECC Championships, running an eighth-place time of 26:42.90 in the 8k at LIU Post. In 2012, the Molloy College softball team reigned supreme in the ECC for the second year in a row, with a 6-0 victory against Dowling College. Juniors Haley Calderwood and Kelley Jansen brought home Co-Most Outstanding Player Honors for their efforts in the tournament. Freshman Stephanie Meyer of the Molloy College women’s track and field team became the program’s first-ever national qualifier at the 2012 NCAA Division II Indoor Championships. She recorded a 14th-place showing in the long jump in Mankato, Minn., with a leap of 5.77 meters.
