• The University of Bridgeport women’s gymnastics team has won the last four USA Gymnastics Collegiate National Championships. • UB men’s swimming team took ninth place at the 2012 NCAA Division II National Championship Meet. • The Bridgeport women’s volleyball team won the school’s first-ever NCAA Division II East Regional Title in the fall of 2011. • The UB men’s soccer team has made 10 consecutive conference tournament appearances, and the Bridgeport women’s soccer team has made five straight NCAA Division II Championship Tournament trips.

About Dowling
Founded in 1955 as part of Adelphi University’s Suffolk Campus, the college purchased the former W.K. Vanderbilt estate in Oakdale in 1962. In 1968 the college was renamed after its chief benefactor, Robert Dowling, a noted city planner and aviator.

Situated on the banks of the Connetquot River on a former Vanderbilt estate, Dowling’s Rudolph Campus in Oakdale is among the nation’s most beautiful. The 105-acre Brookhaven Center is located on William Floyd Parkway in Shirley and features high-tech learning facilities for a broad range of undergraduate and graduate courses. Located within walking distance to the Long Island Rail Road and featuring free parking and shuttle bus service, Dowling is easily accessible from both Suffolk and Nassau counties, as well as the five boroughs of New York City.

Dowling’s men’s lacrosse team won the first National Championship in program history and second in school history (men’s soccer, 2006) in 2012. Dowling’s women’s soccer team advanced to the Round of 16 in the NCAA Tournament for the first time in program history this season. The Golden Lions’ volleyball team has won seven of the past eight ECC Tournament Championships. 30 Pioneers were named to All-America teams in 2010-11. Bethany Shepard hit a milestone this season, smacking her 1,500th career kill to move all the way up to No. 2 on Dowling’s all-time list.

The Pioneers had two nationally ranked fall sports— both men’s and women’s soccer. On Oct. 13, the Pioneers volleyball team recorded a victory over conference rival, Dowling, for the first time since 2001. Freshman Rachel Ringor currently leads the conference in total digs (523), digs per set (4.47), and service aces per set (0.53). Junior Makame Namahoe has recorded 16 doubledoubles this season.

Junior Shelby Cable became the sixth Bear in NYIT history to amass 1,000
career kills. Her current tally ranks her fourth all-time. She is just 146 digs
away from her career 1,000th.

Senior Tugce Sirdas tallied her career 1,000th dig this season, becoming the
eighth Bear to do so. Her current tally ranks her fifth all-time.

In the Record Books: Several Bears have made it into the NYIT record books
this season. Rookie Kate Brock’s single-season block assists tally is now fifth
all-time, while Kelly Brown’s ranks sixth overall. Graduate student Damla
Albayrak ranks third all-time in NYIT history with 2,163 assists.

Head coach Gail Wasmus picked up her 500th career win on Novemeber 10,
making her the second winningest coach in NYIT history behind former
baseball coach Bob Hirschfield (660). She currently owns a 501-364 all-time
record.
